Base deleted...but account recovered!
Thanks to everyone who reached out to warn me, help me, cheer me up, and even joined patreon at a time where all "rewards" are unavailable..., And also thanks to everyone who reportied the scammy stream / channel hijack to youtube. Thanks to the reports, my channel got taken down reasonably quickly, and further damage was prevented, both to my channel and for them scamming viewers. I think it was pretty clear to any regular viewer that the stream was a scam. After the takedown, a few people positioned in the right places reached out to me and helped to ensure an unexectedly swift recovery. Not all is over yet, there are still some security issues to solve, and some more research has to be done. Time supposed to be spent for video making has taken a significant hit, and it will take some more hits before I can get back up to speed. Therefore expect the next few episodes to be either a bit delayed, or a bit shorter.

Also, if you can't understand the video without subtitles, postpone watching, I'll get around to typing them up and adding them in a day or 2

All good, buddy. We're just glad to be able to watch your vids again. If you think time might be short, maybe think about replacing a couple of the UDWC videos in the future with redubbing the biter island/ribbon world videos? I'd love to rewatch them, but I prefer your voice to the yellow text, and theoretically it should be faster since the gameplay is already complete.
I'm so glad that your channel is recovered! I was really worried that something might have been lost to the hackers.

Wow, this has gone through so many transitions. From the frantic scrambling of grenading entire biter hoards, to running pumpjacks at full tilt hoping you get enough oil to last, to literally nothing but a handful of chests, to running around repairing walls waiting for bots to finish, to frantically grabbing an iron expansion, and now calmly planning an entirely different base with pollution (rather than throughput) as the primary variable. What a rollercoaster!
So different to see someone building at this stage and not going full t3 modules, and with efficiency to boot. It's a unique playthrough from start to end.
Man there was something somber and sad about slowly watching the old base get torn up but by bit. Goodbye old base, you served us well ;-;7

You need to make sure that your green chip and steel manufacturing gets upgraded to pollution free manufacturing as well. It is situated a lot closer to the gaps in your forest, so it’s pollution gets to that lake and away easier
All I can say is thank you Michael! Thank you for making the Videos and putting work into the channel even when you dont really have the time for it

@MichaelHendriks you should find a way to supply green nuclear steam into coal liquifaction as every boiler produces 30 polution per minute, which is an equivalent of roughly 60 beaconed assemblers. All efforts are dwarfed by those boilers :)
The steam consumption by coal liquefaction is fairly minor compared to steam power, but still, that is a good point actually. II don't think steam can be barreled though, which makes it a little annoying
I amazed by amount of calculation going off the screen. Even a productivity modules is a part of minimizing pollution cost of science points, since their strain reduction on production chain is taken into account as pollution reduction
Dear mr Hendricks, i found additional underrated use case for blue chests. You can use them as combinators. At first step you can copy factory settings into blue chest. At second step bots will fill chest by resources. At third step you can switch mode of chest into reading content and multiply signals from blue chest in 100 times and translate signals into logistic network for train dispatcher. It better than call all requests by hands + it maintain optimal ratio of consuming resources.
That does sound very useful, especially for train bases

We understand the need to create cinematic shots but this game is so much about the engineering, it might not be "sexy" for the camera and very difficult to film but the belt routing and decision making shouldn't be taken lightly. We want to see that shit!

In the last episode you should totally get a mod that allows you to grow trees to demonstrate just how effective trees are at dealing with pollution.
i find it funny how often you mention 80% energy usage reduction. while each beacon utilizing more than the assembler do xD
I kinda have to, since pollution output is hardlinked to power usage increase/reduction. Beacons don't pollute at all, so with clean power, their power cost is not important
@@MichaelHendriks which is perfectly fine, but the energy usage of the beacons outstrips the saved energy of the assembler many times over, which is why i find you pointing it out so often, pretty funny :)

When converting coal into oil you should use the steam produced by your nuclear plant instead of burning the coal itself. Less pollution and less coal wasted to produce heat.
It's a good point, but i decided it would be too much hassle to achieve for a very minor overall effect

If costs are a concern, why not go for the squashed/bowtie beacon builds as opposed to square? You get greater beacon efficiency.
it's expensive to get to -80% pollution with less beacons
@@MichaelHendriks you can take that design and replace every other assembler with a beacon pair. Might need belt weaving but it's way better than the spaced out square design you used and you still get every assembler affected by 12 beacons
Ah, I see. IDK, given that I use mostly cheap eff.1 modules in the beacons, together with having "free"power, I'm not convinced using 20% less beacons or so would make up for the way, way harder belt routing, especially for the more complicated recipes. (Of course with the usual tier3 modules in the beacons the cost savings are much more significant though)

hopefully, the quality mechanic will mitigate the need for it somewhat, but I think that might be DLC exclusive?
diminishing beacons will probably matter more.
May I politely suggest turning off cloud shadows when you are recording for videos? It may help improve playback from the UA-cam compression due to less pixel updates.
Yeah, it's probably worth the trouble. Also less anoying with cloud "jumps" in editing when making small micro-skips (I've kept them so far because they do look nice in timelapses, and this series is mostly recorded by now)
