In 1956 Whelen introduced the popular Rota-Beam Rotating Beacon. The Whelen Rota-Beam 70,000 CP 50 Watt Halogen Beacon (RB6) continues this tradition with superior performance and reliability. This mid-size beacon is great for many utility, maintenance, fire and rescue applications.
This economical rotating beacon features an intense 70,000 Candlepower light output from a 50 watt halogen lamp. Redesigned parabolic reflector increases light intensities with a greater optic spread. Newly designed motor assembly with precision double roller ball bearings provides superior performance with less friction and minimal noise. This beacon meets and exceeds S.A.E and California Title XIII requirements for emergency vehicles.
    Features:
150 FPM single parabolic reflector rotating halogen beacon.
50 watt halogen lamp delivers greater intensity of comparable beacons.
    Intense 70,000 CP light output.
    Ultra bright parabolic reflector.
Polycarbonate domes are sealed to base with weather resistant "O" ring gasket.
Non-corroding bases offers both 1" NPT pipe mount and concealed permanent flat mount in same unit.
No additional flanges or mounting collars are necessary.
Straight forward design is easy to install and easy to service.
Meets and exceeds SAE and California Title XIII requirements.
    Available in four safety colors.
    Specifications:
    50 watt halogen lamp.
    Candlepower: 70,000 candelas.
    Volts: 12 VDC.

I still like the rotator beacons best

Hard to beat a good old-fashioned halogen rotator. They produce a serious pop-flash you just can't get from any LED light.

Actually getting rid of most of my LED flashing lights. Sirennet still has one code 3 light for sale brand new that's a rotator. I bought it. I've found a lot of the brands like feniex and sound off have really good brightness but poor pattern choices. So few I can't ever decide what pattern I really like. Switching to rotating and maybe a couple LEDs

*foskten10* I couldn't agree more. I came from a time when halogen rotators were king, and although they were typically larger and drew more amperage, they put out a SERIOUS amount of light. As you pointed out, the ever unique 'pop flash' they produce has never been duplicated. I'm not saying LED bars aren't effective, just that I prefer rotators to stationary/static flashing LED's. Case & point, I absolutely love the FS Vision SLR bar which combines LED technology with conventional rotators but they're so extortionately priced most could never afford it. I'll take a traditional halogen rotator any day over the best static LED bar made today.

Mike Hawk while I agree halogen is more unique I still use LED as well as my rotating amber roof light. LEDs in a lot of instances can be much brighter than halogen. LEDs don't get drowned out by the sun quite as much either. Like you said the vision SLR is a good LED rotating product but super expensive. The power arcs are pretty nice too. Not fully rotating but still have that pop with LED brightness

I also prefer rotators to LED's but as you pointed out halogen rotating lights are typically larger and draw far more amps than LED lights. Their reduced size & power usage are the reasons most people use LED technology now, and ultimately these are two major factors when considering modern day installations.

True, I just got my first amber on today. The rotating beam of light commands more presence than flasher leds. Especially at night when you can see the beam pillar spinning around in the air.

I know someone who uses one of these Rota-Beam lights as a dash light of all things! He fabricated a platform for it to sit on and applied some stick-on velcro strips to hold it in place when in use. These Rota-Beams look like the larger cousin of the old 'Cadet' dash light, which is what this fellow used to have. This thing is HUGE on his dash but is it ever BRIGHT!

First time I saw the Rota-Beam I thought it looked exactly like the old Cadet rotating light. In the early 80's I used a Responder dash light and it was my favorite because the early models had a quiet motor compared to teardrop lights (Fireball, SVP-1166, DashLaser, etc).

Really reminds me of my Ecco 5800 series (Ecco 5813) which also has a 55w halogen bulb and a very fast FPM rate. If my memory serves me correctly…the Ecco does around 195 FPM (at 13.5 volts - 15.0 volts DC)

we use them on out foam truck, very bright and very visible from distance

I have always likes this rotator only because it is super bright. The reflector is rather big which is a good thing because it can be seen super far. Believe me, this light can be seen pretty far away. I love LEDs only because they take very low amp draw but I am a real fan of rotators. I wanted to buy 2 of these and make a "newer" version of the old "gumball" lightbar for parades and special events. But sold the old patrol car that it would go on. Anyhow, some of our fire trucks actually uses these lights on the back side of the trucks. Very nice and bright!

I prefer a slower flash rate - say 90 fpm - with a longer dwell time. It would be good if Whelan could produce either a slower version or a 2-speed rotator.

    • @ComputerLearning0
      @ComputerLearning0 2 роки тому

I prefer slower rotators too. I bought a Whelen Cadet dash light (single speed model) and it rotated way too fast for my tastes so I installed an appropriate value resistor inline with the motor to slow it down just enough to suit what I wanted and it worked great. I used my light with an SVP mirror and felt it looked better with a slower flash rate.

Should do a side-by-side comparison to the LED rotabeam.

Very bright. Would prefer a slower flash rate, say 80-90 fpm. And a two reflector, two bulb set up. With aone of these as your primary light, if your bulb goes out, you're iut of service until you replace it.
