    Will you get 16gb or upgrade ?? Let me know !

      I just ordered the 24GB option as a videographer because I want to dive deeper into colour grading, fusion, and just as a further future proofing. Plus 16GB is the minimum requirement for Davinci resolve and I've heard apple intelligence will require up to 8GB RAM alone

    • @IdrisB
      @IdrisB  2 місяці тому

      I heard that too, and apparently that's why they updated the base to 16gb of RAM. Good choice! to go with 24gbs! Did you upgrade or storage or will you use an external SSD?

      @@IdrisB I got the 250GB SSD, buuuut there's a UA-camr called Mr Alex Tech who showed a great 2TB internal SSD with housing for about £160 and that SSD actually performs faster than the apple one so that will be my storage upgrade

    I want to use the mini specifically for Photoshop. I won't be working with real big files. Can't decide if upgrading to 24gb makes sense. Thoughts.

    I personally have become skeptical about the need for high amounts of RAM. It just seems above 8 GB the system manages it very well and uses swap when needed without any hits to performance.

    • @IdrisB
      @IdrisB  2 місяці тому +1

      Agreed. For me, 16gb is enough. Unified memory makes it a lot easier for the macs to manage ram. But tbh, I’ve had a few spinning rainbows when video editing and using Mozilla so getting a 24gb has crossed my mind a few times.

      @@IdrisB I wonder if spinning wheels is not just a ram thing. Maybe a CPU/GPU thing, or a software optimization thing. I have the M4 14/20/24 and the other day I tried to overload it. Got to 60% memory pressure and 5 GB free RAM with 1.5 GB of swap used. The Mac never missed a beat. Left me impressed.

    We don’t need more, we just need it upgradeable.
    The new scamm based ram is faster and uses less energy and can be used on Apple silicon with a slight mother board redesign.
    I think Apple will eventually use it.

    • @IdrisB

      Honestly, I don’t see them going the way of upgradable ram. I hope they do return to it, but they seem to like making extra profit from charging Apple tax on the ram upgrades. I’m hoping they switch to scamm too.

    • @sto_yt
      @sto_yt 2 місяці тому

      @ I could probably get away with 32 if I was more organized and had a different workflow, but I need to have everything up and running. String libraries with articulations etc is demanding and requires small changes here and there, so I don’t want to bounce in place before I know it sounds just right. 64GB is bare minimum for me.

    For me it has to be the M4 pro, 32GB RAM, 1TB SDD it comes in at £1399 (I'm in the UK) considering the Mac studio m2 max starts at £2,099 for a 32 GB ram and 512 Gb SDD, I think is pretty good, Ok the studio has 12 core GPU and 30 core GPU compared to the minis 10 core CPU and GPU but still a good price for a powerful little machine.

    I have 48 gigs on my laptop which is completely insane to be honest. I think 32 is overkill unless you do heavy duty stuff , the most strenuous thing I put my MacBook through is a spreadsheet, bit ridiculous.

    I replaced my Base M1 Mac Mini with the unbinned (14 core cpu/20 core gpu) M4 Pro Mac Mini.

    I have a PC with 64 GB of RAM. Why would I need to open up Tabs and edit 4k video at the same time? I can do that on my PC! The 16 GB of RAM on a MAC is perfect for editing long 4k video if you have nothing else open!

      @@judenihal in some of my videos where I use screenshots or state facts, I have multiple tabs open in my browser with specs and stuff that I’m quoting. It’s not abnormal to have tabs open or use the browser open while editing. Oh and not everyone has a pc AND a Mac.

      @@IdrisB I’m just trying to justify the reason to not paying the “apple tax”. 24 gb of ram is a stupid amount being that 16 and 32 gb is standard today. Paying 400 dollars for an extra 16 gb is ridiculous bad enough you also need 512 gb of disk space for the full speed capability which costs you another 200 dollars. You shouldn’t need to have 24 gb to edit a long 20 min 4k video!

    Every day tasks.... seven years from now. We keep our family computers a long time. I am leaning towards 24gb and a 512 drive. I hear the 512 is notably faster than the 256 drive as a base drive. I can add an external drive for file storage later.

      Good call. Tests I’ve seen shows the 256 being the lowest. Plus it’s good to have that internal wiggle room as 256 is still to small for long term use.
