      2. Contrary to popular belief, South Florida kids aren't actually growing up with dreams of playing for the U anymore. No sir. Maybe 5 years ago you could still say that, but not anymore. Every high school kid in America has grown up knowing only mediocrity and failure in Miami. From the time they were forming their first childhood impressions of college football between the ages of 5-8 years old, kids in South Florida have only ever known a repeating cycle of failure on the field, and intense disdain from the fanbase off of it.
In other words, HS recruits no longer think 5 national championships, 2 Heisman trophies, and a NFL pipeline when they hear the words "Miami Hurricanes". They only know a string of embarrassing loses, a revolving door of new head coaches, and a team that doesn't even have it's own stadium to play in.

It wasn't that long ago when Richt had Miami at #2 in the national polls during the middle of the season with Rosier as the QB. Unfortunately, they did not finish strong. I understand what Herbstriet is saying, but there is no reason for losing to wholly inferior teams the past couple of years. Miami may never be elite again, but they still have the talent to have good winning seasons. After all, the ACC Coastal isn't the most formidable division in college football. In fact, it is just the opposite.

Miami is what ... 1 win out of their last 20 games against Top 25 teams? Even UCF is about 50% against ranked teams, and around 50% against top 10 (3-3 IIRC since 2013). And UCF still gets 3-4x the fanbase 'butts in seats' than Miami when it's only 0.500, and has since the late '00s. And people wonder why UCF has been the #3 team in the state of Florida -- Floridians who say UCF is their #1 team -- the past decade? Miami hasn't finished AP Top 10 in almost 2 decades, while UCF has finished AP Top 10 as much as Miami has AP Top 25 in the past 8 seasons.

And the constant reminder of how good they used to be….yes, you USED to be good. You haven’t been any good since you were good. Quit living off legacy and put some football product on the field and you may be taken seriously.

You're right about the recruitments...but UNIFORMS??? That sounds like teenager talking, I have never seen a brand name jump out and make a takle. Since the name Alabama is mentioned, before Saban, Alabama's record was like what Miami's is right now...2007, 7-6, 2006, 6-7, 2003,4-9...2000, 3-8. Miami and FSU just need to find the right coach, assistants that can develop players, and the right players that wants to play football. Every team that is on top right now also had embarrassing years, until the right coach came along, and Herbstreit is correct about making changes at the top.
