He is credited by many with first popularizing this form of music in the early 1950s with his group Bill Haley & His Comets and their hit song "Rock Around the Clock".

Franny Beecher on a first gen LP Custom with fresh Tweed Fender amps behind.
Note "whiteness" of the amps coverings.
When new, Fender amps were basically " white" as it was a CLEAR lacquer coating put over the pyroxaline ( tweed) covering.
After exposure to sunlight, nicotine, dampness, general wear, what have you, the covering would yellow to varying degrees.
Yet, a few of these now ancient amps, are still as " white" as the day they were made.
Even many amps that have darkened can still retain white patches in the unexposed(to light) areas underneath their back covers.
Same is true for the earliest(now) "Butterscotch" Telecasters of the 1950's.
The original color was BLONDE. Not Butterscotch, Yellow, Off- White, etc.
Neck pockets of some of these will still reveal the " white" blonde paint, totally original, that has not been exposed to decades of light exposure, nicotine, etc.
Unstable and evolving top coats used on the earliest Telecasters succumbed to light exposure and turned darker much like the amps.
Think "Mary Kaye" Strats as far as what the original color really was on both the guitars and amps.
As for Franny and band, they were the first Rock act to be endorsed by Gibson and were given instruments and 2 or 3 Gibson "400" amps, which are visible in clips of their West German and Belgian appearances posted elsewhere on YT.
Beecher later played an early black ES 335 until his departure from Haley c.1960.
His earliest guitar used with Haley was a large bodied Epiphone electric archtop which is visible in their 1955 Milton Berle and Ed Sullivan appearances also posted elsewhere on YT.
