  • In this video, we take a look at traditional Cree and Ojibwa tales of wild giants set in the wilderness of the Canadian Shield, and in a string of sightings of a very peculiar yellow-headed wildman in the bush outside Cobalt, Ontario, whom local legend has christened “Old Yellow Top”.

      You can learn a lot about a culture by their boogeymen.

      I never thought about it that way 🤔👍🏻
      what does the giants with removable hearts as bogeymen say to you?

    • @MakerInMotion
      @MakerInMotion 5 місяців тому +2

      @@john-ic5pz I'm not smart enough to figure that one out. But an example of boogeymen reflecting the culture they came from is how in American slasher movies, the prey is usually teenagers engaging in risky behavior like binge drinking, drugs, and casual intercourse. It's an expression of how we know that these behaviors are self-destructive. Even if they're common. Japan has a culture of strict adherence to rules. A lot of their boogeymen put a curse on people who break them. Like trespassing in a haunted building and being marked for death by evil spirits. It might be over-analyzing, but I think there's a connection and I'm not alone.

    Thanks for the new content Hammerson Peters. Even as an American I notice strong geographical differences and culture in eastern and western Canada. The mountain men type lifestyle of the west verses the lush forest of the east. I’ve been to upstate New York and I imagine it’s similar to Ontario and Quebec. Broadleaf maples, white pines, birches and oaks. Western Canada is rocky and dry and has coniferous woods.

    As someone whom was more than a little pudgy as a boy, and having grown up around rather badass older family members, I can empathize with the young warriors desire to prove himself.
    And as someone whom adores his family (and whom would gladly take any great risk to defend them) I could easily see myself stepping up beaide him.

    I moved to British Columbia two years ago, I have lived in native reserves all across Canada but the stories and history here are definitely the most interesting, and I'm particularly interested in the theories that these wild man stories were based on Neanderthals that used to live here, and I've visited alot of the places where those stories come from

    I used to really be into this. I think I have an older print of your book. Plus others.
    Anyone that’s spent time in the deep woods hunting or working knows it’s absolutely possible things could and are there that most wouldn’t believe. They’re fleeting. I used to say to my wife things I’ve seen. Not like this but wildlife and add And that’s why there’s no picture of Bigfoot. But over the years as we’ve shared nature even just driving she’s seen how there is no time to record even if you’re prepared. You’re so surprised. And it happens so quickly you’re caught up in the seeing and watching to react.

    Just the ripples....
    I've seen female moose in that same exact drift years later come charging into the water to cross, and then turn away at the sight of it. Dad is 65. He still doesn't understand wtf happened
