I am Stoney/Cree and though I wasn't raised traditionally, I love to hear the stories passed down through the cultures.
I love the way you bring the legends of the American Indians to the masses with respect and dignity. I think tribal myths and legends are some of humanity's greatest cultural treasures which have gone lost and under appreciated in the wake of worldwide industrialization
As an Icelander I was told the story of Þorgeir's Bull and never in my wildest imagination would I imagine that this story would end up so far away from our fatherland.
Im a pretty avid recreational history buff.
Ive never, ever heard of Iceland's contribution to our (at least once) Great Canadian Heritage.
Very Cool👍🇨🇦❤️
There'a loads of parallels if you dig around. Vikings absolutely interacted with Inuit and there was a good deal of assimilation between the 2 cultures - moreso than we have definitive records for, but the proof is in the stories.
@@sasqetshenkley1190 also in the DNA, I took part in a genetic study which found out that we Icelanders have First Nations DNA in our maternal DNA which means that the Vikings who went to Vínland took with them a First Nations woman back to either Greenland or Iceland.
@@oligultonn Yeah they totally did. I'm pretty the norse sagas specifically account Leif Erickson kidnapping a couple scraeling children on his first return from Vinland.
Those sagas are balls-out awesome.
I believe there is an old plaque dedicated somewhere near my home town in southern Alberta describing some sort of giant bull who wandered the plains back in the late 1800's or early 1900's all alone. It's sort of a local legend that's been nearly forgotten if it wasn't for the plaque. Next time I visit home, I'll go to the plaque and take a picture of it to send to you. Loved the video!
Is the plaque near Medicine Hat?
I’m sooo happy to see this post. As a citizen of BC, Hammerson’s posts are of extreme interest to me!
God bless, Hammerson! I’m a retiree and struggle thru each month, in this high cost of living province! I will spread your channel as far and wide as I can, though!
Peace
Right?! It is as beautiful as it is expensive to live here. I hope and pray that things will change for the better all of us that live here.
During the Missouri river flood of 2011, many buffalo remains were found just below the Damn in Pierre South Dakota , running them off the cliffs were found to be the case there also. Nice Stories
Love the way Hammerson still makes use of the early English grammar in his presentations. It is a grammar unmatched today in eloquence and elegance. The influence of 19th and early 20th c. Literature is distinct and nowadays not often come across. Congratulations Hammerson you are keeping the old craft of storytelling well alive! Always looking forward to your posts. The subject is always fascinating, mysterious and extremely interesting.
This comment is for feeding the algorithm.
It enjoys munching on comments, replies and likes to both.
Toss it a treat or two and watch the channel grow
Saw a new hammerson Peter's video, I had to take my lunch break early!
I do so enjoy listening to Indian folklore. You present it so well. Thank you so much for all the work that you putting into making these videos, my friend.
His narration is spot
On 💯
Hamm, dude, I mainly listen to your videos before sleep on my phone - where I'm not logged in and never write comments... but DUDE....
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THESE AWESOME VIDEOS!!! You've taught me so much about Canada and the history of the regions up there, your older videos are JUST as good, which is honestly incredible. You are one of my favorite youtubers of all time! I've always been intrigued by Cryptids and Ghosts, but never had an experience myself... though I have seen numerous UAP in my time of various kinds... Thanks so much for these glimpses into the shadows of reality across time... You are awesome! Have a great 2023!!!
UFOs, hon. You've seen UFOs, not UAP.
Don't let the bastards rebrand their criminality and their lies.
Mr Peters, your videos are fascinating. Please keep up the good work.
Miigwetch for creating a digital record of these stories. You’re doing the world a favor. If not for you I may have never gotten to learn these truths known among the Canadian relatives.
" Never disappointed by Hammerson Peters " should be a great t-shirt to wear. Cheers, unexplained's Maestro 🍻🍻🍻🍻
Another fantastic short documentary!! I'm loving these Hammerson👍
Perfect timing for an upload! Thank YOU, my friend!!!! What a fascinating topic!!
Wonderful storytelling of wonderful tales.
Always admired and enjoyed your content and videos. Another excellent job, too!
Since you have done a video of Native American Cryptids both terrestrial and aquatic, I think aerial cryptids such as Thunderbird or modern reports of pterosaurs should be next whenever you get the chance.
Have you seen my video on Thunderbird legends? I have many more I could share, and may incorporate them into future videos:
ua-cam.com/video/2tTVNCZZfDU/v-deo.html
@@HammersonPeters Thanks for sharing! Ended up watching it too! I think aerial Native American cryptids are underrated because most people think of just Thunderbird, when there are also accounts of Flying Heads, Owlmen, Skinwalkers, Feathered-serpents, and giant-bats through the Americas and Mezosamericas. I would also count witches and evil sorcerers of their respective tribes and Native American societies, where tales of such claim they could levitate or fly.
Excellent presentation as always! Thank you for sharing
Whoohoo, perfect timing on a Friday evening. Just getting coffee and going to spend Friday puttering in my workshop while listening. Cheers
Really interesting stuff! Thanks for posting!
I once visited "Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump" in Canada. There were archeologists below, digging (back through the ages) and finding bones and fire pits, stones used for processing the meat and hides of buffalo. Very interesting site. Thank you for the posting of such intriguing content.
The stories are so fascinating, the narration is very soothing. Always a good time. Thanks man.
Man, do I love your channel. It's funny, you are the only one that talks about really scary stuff, that relaxes me, gives me the sense of homely warmth and a scare when needed to. This channel nees to have at list a million subs. Regards from the Montenegro, Balkan!
Thank you for these eloquently written and informative videos.
lmao the girl talking about marrying a buffalo and the bull taking her up on the offer had me in stitches
You Sir are the best story teller on UA-cam! Bravo...
This looks promising.
The creepiest equine monster is the kelpie or nuckelavee, as far as I'm concerned. Maybe that'll change tonight.
Great Folklore Narrative…. All your videos are interesting….. making my day
I love the ambiance of the music and sound
In the Canadian Rockies at the Whirlpool River & Athabasca Pass area in January 1811; Northwest Company, Surveyor/Trader David Thompson measured & recorded tracks in his field notes. The following are from the book; "Sources of the River" by Jack Nisbet, pg.175 tracks;
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
January 1810: The men came across a set of tracks that gave them quite a start: each footprint had (4 large Toes, about 3 or 4 inches long & a small Nail at the end of each; the Ball of his Foot sank about 3 inches deeper than his Toes; the hinder part of his foot did not mark well. The whole is about 14 inches long by 8 inches wide.) [Thompson]
"At the time Thompson surmised that the tracks must have belonged to a big grizzly bear, although his hunters had a different idea. In his Narrative he remembered their qualms." [Nisbet]
Strange to say here is a strong belief that the haunt of the Mammoth is about this defile, I questioned several, none could positively say they had seen him, but their belief I found to be firm and not to be shaken." [Thompson]
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
This is a strange occurrence Thompson recorded in his field journals I wanted to share. pg.132 Elk
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
October 1808: While his men dragged the loaded canoe upstream, he hunted ahead on horseback & one day brought down a big cow Elk. [Nisbet]
As she was dying the Canoes came up, the Men began skinning her, and one man cut off her head, upon this the Deer arose and stood there for half a minute stood on her feet....The Men became Frightened, said she was a devil, & would have nothing more to do with her...I cut a piece of meat for my supper, put it in the Canoe, & marched on;.when we camped, I expected my piece of meat for supper, but found they had tossed it into the River, and my servant said to the Men, "Does he wish to eat a piece of the devil, if he does, it is not me that will cook it." Instances of this nature are known to the a Indians, who call them Seepanee, that is strong of life.
[Thompson]
Heights, enclosed places and needles. You named three of my fears right off the bat lol.
Anyone else notice the majority of cryptids...monsters...exist in the geographic location of British Columbia?
BC is a wild place, man. It's all forest here.
Also I’m pretty sure that is the basic point of this channel.
BC is awesome for creepy woods. I love being born and raised in the Fraser River Valley. The heart of it all.
🇨🇦❤️👍
Thats why we call it SUPER-natural British Columbia , i live in the lower mainland but my family hails from smithers in northern BC
@@MrThatnativeguy . . . .I love Smithers 👍🇨🇦
Absolutely delightful as always! Hammerson, I always leave your videos smiling big and better educated on Canada's rich history and folklore, which are so often overlooked and poorly known outside its borders. All the love and a fantastic 2023 to you!
Just tuning in to check out this episode. I'm a new subscriber to your channel and am enjoying your videos. Cheers 🙂
I always look forward to your storytelling!
Thank you kind sir for your time and effort to share these cool stories.
I have an amazing story,an event that happened to me,something I question to this day.
Thanks for the entertainment, I get off work sit back and enjoy your storytelling looking across at the mountains on the other side of okanagan lake,it's a perfect place for it.
I love this Channel.
Love your content man
TY4SHARING..!!
Another hoofed monster legend for you: in the book "Cottage Country Ghosts" by Andrew Hind and Maria Da Silva, there's a story called "Alsace Haunted Barn" about a demonic horse that lives in an abandoned barn and attacks anyone who comes into the barn.
Very interesting! I’ve always liked their stuff.
I retain a deep Primal Fear Hammerson Peters will stop producing content one day. I will have you know I stopped watching a David Paulides video for you, Hammerson.

i can't believe they did my boy louie dirty like that
gone but not forgotten
The "White Buffalo Calf Woman" reminds me of a Stargate SG-1 episode.
Let's help Mr. Doades, folks! Lessgoo
Dude! That thorgeir's bull is real. Or at least something like it. I sough a Beast on the side of the road near travers reservoir AB which looked just like it. Scared the hell out of me. Red body, low hanging head, weirdly long bodied, strange drooping tail, and hug teeth and eyes. Must have weighed 1200lbs.
I'm a retired dairy farmer and 1200 would be the normal size for a Holstein cow. If you saw a giant bull, it would be pushing over 2000 pounds. Lots of hamburger in the big boys.
I absolutely love your channel because it reminds me of my childhood where summers were spent beside a campfire beneath a northern prarie star lit sky talking about these exact topics. Now, when I listen to your stories, I smoke a dobbie traveling back in time to those spooky nights where we would end up freaking ourselves out.
Lol Most adults in our modern time are not afraid monsters....until one night camping & a loud scream...hoooowl erupts from the woods, the call characteristics of which cause a deep sense of foreboding & the hairs all over their body to stand up....followed by noises of what sounds like movement heading in their direction & moving around their camp....unable to see the source of the noises they head to bed & sleep....waking up a little later laying in their sleeping bag they hear bi-pedal footsteps nearing their tent & listen to the slow deep breathing of something standing next to the tent....
The Bull monsters are like the Rolling Calf tales the British and French Caribbean.
That painted visage of "Thorgeir's 🐂 Bull", must be the backstory to legends of "Were-Cows" . 😮😱😅🤣😹
First time I heard the bull husband story Joseph Campbell told in on is old TV show. Well done mate always a good watch.
The Icelandic version of Thorgeir's Bully sounds like an HP Lovecraft story haha
So interesting, Hammerson. Thank you for sharing!
Asian Leopard and Royal Bengal Tigers are almost on tjat level of their terror and fear .
But meeting a Gaur wild oxen in those regions in tight cover can be on same level also for a few seconds. A 3000 lbs bull, 7 feet tall at shoulder height is sur on that bovine levels.
Europe, Visent, the bison the same.
These cryptic creatures are very interesting but scary too! Being that they are folklore they have to come from somewheres? Iam from USA 🇺🇲 my dad was born in Manitoba Canada! 🇨🇦 My mom from Pennsylvania Dutch! 🇳🇱
Ready to hear about
The Monster Squad.
🙈🙉🙊tfsharing.
I was chased by our herd of horses through the pasture one spring...terrifying
I hope that none of those magazines end up being thrown away.
Hammerson through your research and knowledge reference the first nation and fur trading throughout Canada and Alaska there are two world's we live in , one that is only
Whispered .
The ORCADIAN Horsemen
I lived on the pine ridge Lakota reservation for a year, it was interesting.
Can never get enough HP
It's interesting how quickly the native Americans incorporated horses into their mythology.
As an Oglalla Lakota I must tell you that the words for Pte San Win is pronounced ptay sha wee. The sacred pipe Canupa is pronounced Cha new pah. not kawn ah pah.
Thanks for the heads up!
no problem!
They too were there…
You should look into the island of Jersey it's a part of the U.K more closer to France and a very rich population as it's also a tax haven and a well known Mansonic island, there are statues in the woods of Luicifer really strange things, open displays of peodophilia in people's homes, and look into the children's home that was located there it's called "Haute de lagren " 100s of kids went missing and after it shut down they found many kids bodies buried in the grounds.....absolutely shocking that it was just covered up by these rich corrupt officials who are responsible for the evil and suffering on this hell realm....anyway check it out it's on you tube...a good watch even though it is horrible
so true
Poor Louie :,(
Ohh... poor Louie. 😟🐎
Yes, nearly all cultures worldwide going back essentially to the beginning have had a fascination with and/or fear of preternatural and supernatural entities, both living and undead, for which there is no, or nearly no, defense against.
Thorgeirs' story and its abomination has left me with a feeling of uneasiness specially that the story has some of the details of the ritual of this creature. It remembers me the legend of the Golem of Prague and the stories of the Bon's Tulpas.
It’s like people back then understood that herbivores weren’t these gentle and docile. They saw them as dangerous and wild animals in which they are.
U should release a hammerson peters soundtrack
Strange that the stoney people have the story about the 4 horses since there were no horses in North America from the pleistocene until European contact brought the breeds the story describes from Europe and Asia.
I tried to purchase a magazine but the links aren't working and it's not very obvious how to place an order.
You have to get in touch with Ted via email, phone, or snail mail if you want to order a magazine. Unfortunately, it’s not an e-commerce site.
On Ted's treasure publications. The library of Congress in America keeps copies of publications there. If they don't have a copy, they might want to receive it. I don't know if they have anything in Canada like that, but countries that do might receive copies they don't have.
Load into Google books library.
One could find a new owner with money for the business, who can send out a call for missing stock the business doesn't have, and include card with each item sold and website and Amazon entry. To generate interest, but limit the initial stocks bought in.
I’m sure he doesn’t want to donate. He is looking to sell, as he very much needs the money.
@@HammersonPeters Is there any payment given by such libraries? I was more thinking of avoiding the council tip.
where can i watch the interview with a cryptid hunter video?? i cant find it on youtube anymore

Good point. I hadn’t thought of that one. But I believe the bull that frightened the Scraelingjar in the Sagas was supposed to be a regular bull.

There currently stories of not-deer. These are often remarked to looking just like a deer, except with an improperly shaped leg, or too long of a leg. Another feature may be forward set eyes, or very unusual antlers. Rumors of some with the teeth of a meat eating beast.

If these dear keep getting in motor vehicle accidents, we shouldn't let them behind the wheel.
Cha New Pah, that’s how you say the words for a sacred pipe. If you want to score more brownie points (and subs), please consider phoning an Indian friend to consult with pronunciation. These words are sacred. It matters whether or not we respect the languages of cultures. You’d probably correct someone who mistakenly referred to the holly gruel.
Thanks for the correction. I do my best to look up the pronunciation of words I’m unfamiliar with, but couldn’t find any info on that one.
