Little tip. Take the bolts and back them almost all the way out. Stick the socket on the bolts then fire the truck up and turn the wheel. Use the power steering to your advantage and allow the socket to hit the axle pushing the bearing out from the knuckle.
You know the reason why the bearing went bad is from all the weight from the little tree air fresheners you have on the rear view mirror Ryan 😅 great video keep it up. 👍
This is why i started undercoating and spray painting my undercarriage every winter. Barely much rust under my truck now since i started doing it and I live in Buffalo, NY were they salt the roads even in the rain lol. Can't wait til I can leave NY and move south.
If you’re undercoating or painting, unless you’re stripping it every year and verifying there is ZERO corrosion, then all you’re doing is trapping moisture and corrosion in so it can eat away at the metal uninhibited. The other comment has it right: use oil or protectants like fluid film. It’s not as pretty, but it’s the best solution. It’s the same principle as any other metal storage. Think about when you buy a new bearing. Or axle shaft. Or rotor. What protects the inside of your engine from corrosion? A thin film of something petroleum based does a great job of preventing oxide layers from forming, or spreading if they’ve already formed. Also, please stay up north. We’ve had more than enough Yankees and Pacific Northwesterners and Californians move down here and completely change both our landscape with a million .25 acre lot subdivisions, and change our culture for the worse. Just a few years ago, everyone you met down here said yes sir and yes ma’am. They held the door for you. They said thank you when you did it for them. If you passed them driving down a 2 lane road, they waved at you. Now? Southern hospitality is all but dead and priced out.
If you leave the back top bolt in hub just sticking out and put the socket on it with long extention and crank truck and turn wheel it will press hub off instantly.
Man I really miss that truck and build that was when your videos were at their prime and wow that thing is looking a little worn down and Rusty but I still love it! I always enjoy your channel keep up the great work I've been here since the beginning with your black Volkswagen
The easy way to remove the bearing is - remove bolts except leave two opposite each other partially threaded. Place a deep socket on the bolt and turn the steering wheel as to wedge the socket on bolt against the axle housing alternately and the bearing will push right out in seconds.
And this is why my nice truck don't come out in ohio winters ,salt eats all the nice paint and powder coat up. Plus we oil spray ours to help protect them
Very nice informative video. How long did your previous wheel bearings last you? How much did the new ones cost you? What is your lift and wheel set up?
I feel you bro you want to make it more of a better daily driving we love how you daily drive it and have the same love for it you had for it 6 years ago that was your dream truck just happy you still have it
That Midwest rust makes everything way more difficult than it should be. I’m thankful to only deal with it every once in a while on rare occasions. But the best thing I found to combat rust is (WD40 gel lube) especially on the part of the wheel bearing housing that inserts into the knuckles. Has to be the gel lube tho. The regular wd40 is shit for anything outdoors imo.
Love the repairs! hey Ryan I was curious what your thoughts are on the rust on the under carriage of the big truck if you have a good way to clean a situation like that up?
Man... Time flew buy.. . Remember when ryan had that clean shaven look. I well never get a truck i have in the works to this level of height amd tires.looks amazing.. but since am here have a 2003 dodge ram a quad cab.. upgrading the sests from a 2017. But is it possible to get those parts and panels well it fit? And seen a coment about the rear seats that they sadly have to come from exacly a quad cab. Or no leg room for the people in the back.. what you recommend for coils amd all that. Maybe 4-5 inch lift. Remove the weak bumper it has. And install those bumpers like you habe fromt ad rear for safely reasons..
From owning dodges most of my life and replacing countless wheel bearings, the way to save them? Torque the axle nut to dodges torque spec, over or under tightening that axle nut that holds the bearing together will cause premature failure, and wides on top of that 😅
Sorry to see you use Rock Auto. I've had terrible experiences with them. Its not much more to buy local. Or at least Amazon. The issue arises on return or warranty problems. R A does not have a "human" return department. Only online and the process is daunting. Read the customer reviews on there customer service and business practices. Its good til it ain't.
I returned tons of stuff to them! Easy process sends me the label and money comes back in 3 days! Buying local yes, but all the parts from autozone or wherever are all on rock auto with different names and 70% less money plus you get name brands like timken, ac delco, and tons of oem parts! You should give it another try! Plus their parts fitment system is unmatched!
Should have went with Kryptonite bearings. Lifetime warranty. And i never had issues with mine for the past 5 years. Daily drive 150 miles a day every week on them. Also have 14" wide wheels on an 8" lift.
Old school days miss these type of vids

Absolutely! I'm in Pa. I used to use my old engine oil after a change, brush it on in late fall, but now I use fluid film. Much easier to spray it on.

@@marrag1 indeed it has, friend. Everybody everywhere is only concerned with themselves anymore.
Dude I was so excited to see a video working on the green truck again!! I miss these videos!!
I’m just glad I live in the south after seeing how much rust is on all those suspension components.
I’m glad you live there too! You don’t want these problems.
That truck is bad ass.
You should look into the dodge hub removal tool, makes that job so much easier! I take my bearings out without a hammer.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll check it out!!
@ryan2546 it uses the power of your hydraulics to push the bearings out, makes the job much faster.
If you leave the back top bolt in hub just sticking out and put the socket on it with long extention and crank truck and turn wheel it will press hub off instantly.
That wheel bearing sounds like a masive warhouse door
Damn that Ohio salted roads are taking a toll on your power coating. Glad to see the ol gal still looking good
Yeah I’m taking it all off and painting the axles and frame welds here soon and then it’s never seeing winter again
So awesome you still have this truck!
My daily driver! Hahahah since I got it
@@ryan2546 No way! That's a neck breaker of a daily for sure! Would be cool to have a truck like that.

That doesn’t always work either. Living in the rust is fun..

That salt ruins everything!
EVERYTHING
And this is why my nice truck don't come out in ohio winters ,salt eats all the nice paint and powder coat up. Plus we oil spray ours to help protect them
I tried to keep it out of the salt but some times it was the best vehicle for the weather unfortunately, after I re do it it’ll never see salt again
@ryan2546 yeah that's why I hate our weather here and want to move so we can use our nice vehicles all yeah without destroying them!
I heard some Thousand Foot Krutch playing in the background. Love it!
🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Takes me back to the first video I watched of yours way back when.
Me too!
Watched you build that truck been a minute!!
Yes!!! It’s changing up here soon! Needs a refresh 😎😎😎
What no jack stand, you're loving dangerously!!!
loving very dangerously :)
A lot of people convert over to the free coasting hubs
I’ll look into it!
Back with the og garage repairs I see!
I guess so! Hahahha love it
I cannot wait to see you re-do that truck. It is dying for a refresh. I still say street truck style.
It’s gonna be soooo hot I’m excited!
Anti-seize is your best friend when replacing wheel bearings. Save you lots of time the next time you have to take it apart.

Driveway vids! Nice!
More to come!
Same gear box and steering hub on my 3rd gen broke so i switched from 40s 15w back to 37 10w
Yeah when you think about how small the bearing really is it’s crazy they even put up with so much weight getting thrown around!
Are timken bearings still made in canton?
I believe their headquarters is there!
Make in Korea
i wish you woulda put sum jack stands under the axel bro. just for your safety
Annnnd the wheels look sick next to the bronco!
that would be crazy 😂😂😂
Figured you couldn't spin it cause them nails.... THROW YA PURSE AT IT RYAN.

You need to use jack stands
Noticed the jam nut on your tie rod was not tight......
Gonna be weird seeing 6.7 Lime without the big lift and tires.
Timkin I’m sure makes great bearings, they’re on trains. However the set I put on my Duramax didn’t last. Seal failed and leaked all the grease.
Damn! Train bearings you learn something new everyday!
