    What is making me jump a lot is the sudden loud outbursts while talking, popping my speakers.

      Sorry about that… I try to turn the volume down in the edit but it’s produced for mobile devices really so that it’s loud enough for people to hear on iPads and iPhones etc… tv speakers are a little difficult to cater solely for…

    Excellent morning viewing. I have the British Customs turn outs with the cat in on my bobber black. Slightly louder on start up with a lovely burble. After 3000 rpm they come alive worth a little look from Square deals.
    Look forward to the next review old bean.

      Thank you Stuart! It will be down to price, but BC have replied to me and said that they are making some polished sleeper pros which is the look I'm after... I'm happy to settle for cheaper straight pipes or turn outs in the interim...

    How time flies, good to see Merlin is treating you right.
    Its definitely a beautiful bike, you've specced it out marvelously!
    The oxidizing issue is absurd, i really don't understand why the don't treat the metal to prevent this.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  4 роки тому +2

      They advisements at point of sale that you have to clean it, or should... In the past they have coated them but water seeped in and the corrosion was worse anyway, so they've decided not to bother and leave it to the user... There are plenty of products out there, so I suppose fair enough... I just think that the ceramic coating doesn't work as well as advertised...

    They have come a long way since I bought my '76 T140 out of the crate for $Au3.2k. Bitch of a bike with slotted screws to my Amals on one side, and phillips heads on the other; rear brake caliper snapping after a month; 1 into two throttle system continually sticking; and yes, lots of alloy pitting and chrome rust too. But she was my daily ride and I I loved her through rain, hail and snow.

    Pro sticker as well. Tis a nice bike. Before I got the 2005 t 100 air cooled, i saw a beautifully maintained 2012 Speed master, but the girl who owned the t100 had put so many add-ons on it that I fell for it over the cruiser look. Coming from a VMAX, I leaned more to the classic look. Though the engine size lost 300 cc,s. I used to have a 75 CB 750, so the t100 fell into that category. But surprised to find the honda actually had more hp, at 749 CC than the Triumph. Maybe one day I'll swap out for a 1200 again. But at 68, not sure I wanna have that much umph under my wrist. We have many more crazy drivers here in FLA usa.
    Thanks again Capt. Keep the tires firmly planted,,

    God I Love mine and I like what you did with yours. I went with a more classic "cruiser" style: Same paintjob of course, the comfort seat, brushed aluminium covers and TPS badges (no salt in my part of the woods thankfully), Chrome highway bars and teardrop mirrors and the same short stem indicators... Apparently mine was made in 2019 too (most likely). Only a bit less than 5000 km (damn covid) but no problems whatsoever.

    It's a shame they don't sell the Speedmaster as an all-black stock version like the new bobber. Would instantly fix all the corrosion issues and it really fits the badass look as Merlin demonstrates nicely! I know there is a whole lot of aftermarket stuff to black it out but considering the price for the bike I don't have the extra money to put in to do that.
    I'm currently looking to change my ride and I'm torn between the Speedmaster and the Indian Scout Bobber (had considered the bobber black too but a single ride with basically no loading capacity is kinda dealbreaker for me). I've had similar problems with corrosion on my old chrome cruiser so that's something I'd really like to avoid and the fact that you mentioned it too is kinda pushing me to the Indian... which is a pity because apart from that the Speedmaster apears superior to me!
    Any idea how much you've spent on those blacked details so far? Also, your luggage systems looks pretty capable and fits the style. Care to share your specific setup there?

    Captain my captain, Why after all these years with the road runner bike horns, they haven't come out with a factory looking loud auto sounding horns. Bike batteries and charging system s don't seem to drive a car horn to full loudness. Back in the 70s ,i had an old t500 Suzuki. I placed a car horn on it, but it would never sound full voice.
    I just bought a 2005 t 100 bonneville with carbs. So have some learning to do.

    • @peterford9369
      @peterford9369 4 роки тому +1

      @@lauriebloggs8391 Back then all i cared about was the reliability. She kicked over every morning , to get me to work, and got me home every eve. I still have the manual I think. I sold it for same price I bought it for 13 years later. By then It was a classic. When I first saw pics of the gt, I was envious. Disk front brake , swept rear seat. I think even the tank was cooler looking. Then came the 75, Honda CB 750. No smoking, less buzzy, electric and,,,,kick start,just in case.
      I actually bought the Triumph cause I missed riding. Wanted something just to ride. Haven't riden for 6 years. Figured a 900 would be enough. Sold my VMAX about 6 years ago, hadn't riden since. I love the style. Plus the girl who owned it did alot to it. And it's mint. Loud too. She put slashed, out bound light baffled slip on s on it. That's why I want a bigger horn. The 120 does sound like a highway machine. 1200, like my old Max. Man that sucker was fast. At 6000 rpm,v boost, kicks in. In every gear. The first time it hit i was pulling my visor down and it almost lost it. Taught me kwik. So I'm figuring with EFI the 120 does alright. Cap never sounded the horn, that I heard. So not sure the sound. But if it's auto loud, that's fine.
      Thanks for the memories LB. Ride safe.

    Another splendid offering sir! Does the Speedmaster have cruise control? I have considered the Speedmaster but, having suffered a Thunderbird 900 with a 15L fuel tank (and severe range anxiety), I think that 12L tank would mess with my head. I look forward to your range-to-empty test. In the meantime, I'm selling my Tiger 800xc (too tall, too top heavy) and have bought a 2015 Guzzi V7ii. Now that has a 21L fuel tank! TBH.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  2 роки тому

      Ultimately the bobber is less practical luggage wise and can’t take a pillion. The speedmaster hasn’t got the same ground clearance in the corners as the bobber so they are the main differences. When it comes to handlebars it doesn’t matter as I have the bobber black bars on my speedmaster. All parts are exchangeable…
      The main thing to note is that the original bobber only has a single front brake disc as apposed to dual discs on the bobber black and speedmaster.

      They were a few hundred pounds but they’re not available at the moment for some reason. My guess is that they’ll come back after the launch of the new face lifted models… essentially bobber black bits…
      It is cheaper to just get the brushed cases powder coated like on my thruxton… depends if you know someone local or can do it yourself. One caveat to that is make sure the coating isn’t too thick on the back of the cases as the gaskets don’t seat properly… I just had to retighten my engine case bolts twice to crush it flat over a few weeks… easy enough.

    Good evening Capn' Now I am looking at changing motorcycles and the Speedmaster is well up there, even though like all Triumphs it's a bit over-priced. The thing that's bothering me though are the well-documented Bonneville Gearbox issues. Have you heard of them and what are your thoughts on them?

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  4 роки тому +1

      sfbdotcom I heard of the gearbox issues but I’ve not had them on any bike I’ve ridden... there’s obviously an issue but I think there’s a workable fix that I read on the Bonneville Facebook page anyway...
      I wouldn’t let things like that put you off. Similar issues with any bike really and I think it’s down to luck if you have one of those bikes anyway... it seems a random occurrence rather than a bad batch of VIN numbers or where they were built... but no, I’ve never had an issue or met anyone personally who has had that experience...

    Captain- I am a T 100 rider looking into trading up to the SpeedMaster. Reason is long distance cruising and power upgrade. Are there any downsides other than the money it's going to cost me to trade up?

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  4 роки тому +1

      They are quite different in terms of handling and ground clearance... you’ll scrape the legs more, and you might find the position a bit testing on your lower back if you’re not used to it. Forward foot controls also mean your weight is all through your bottom instead of spread through legs and arms as well....
      I find all of this fine... I prefer the shape over the T120. The T120 is the natural progression from the T100 is just looking for power...
      Definitely ride one and see if you fit the ergonomics...
      I do miss going round corners fast but that’s not what the speedmaster is about... if you like the thrill of leaning the bike over through the corners then the speedmaster isn’t for you... the speed twin might be with the SW Motech panniers that I have on my speedmaster?

    Why when you were riding with Bigglesworth, I thought Merlin was a bobber. But it's a Speedmaster?
    Oh I hate that when you have frontend wobble. Not very reassuring.
    I know there's a sleeve in the levers made of nylon, that may be the problem? Not sure but its either that or the cable ball or worn lever. Still works fine I'm sure, but ya always want everything in perfect condition.
    I know this is an old video so you've probably aimed the horn down. Water inside will definitely not benefit anything.
    I keep trying to find a loud horn that matches the factory ones, without the open horn, but no luck. They always sound like VW bug horns, meep,meep.
    I made a comment when you 2uped with Bigglesworth about your saddle style seat about springs. But wasn't sure if you have springs on that seat.
    Anyway nice seeing Merlin again. I know now u have the brass fuel cap. Are they real brass, or coated? Looks nice.
    Take good care of him.
    Tally Bally,

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  2 роки тому

      Thanks Peter. Some of my videos are published out of order so if there isn’t a brass tank cap then it’s an older video… the cap I have is solid brass but you can get cheaper ones that are brass coated.
      Denali do very good horns.
      The pillion seat isn’t sprung but the rear has a mono shock under the seat anyway so no need for seat springs…
      Merlin is a Speedmaster but that’s just a bobber black with a read…
      Hope this makes sense…

      Peter Scott he is indeeed! He ticks all the boxes for a one bike stable... there’s only two things he can’t do and that’s a track day and off reading... track days are enticing but never been on one, so no real point wasting money in the current climate on a track bike at the moment... off roading?? Not many green lanes around me... I’d love to join Phil down south but getting there on a 125/250 would be a bit annoying so possibly soemthing that could do off roading but also eat the miles when I don’t want to put them on Merlin? I have a vague idea about the Triumph Scramblers... the Street Scrambler wouldn’t have the ground clearance but maybe the 1200 Scrambler XC?? Pricey though? Street scrambler with the XC suspension fitted?? Again, maybe, but there’s no real reason at all to ever get rid of Merlin... 😁👍🏻
