I own a 2022 outlander exceed with white leather and to me after personal comparison to sportage to me it is a much better put together car and rides much better. The bang for buck is exceptional and I even find the engine peppy enough to for me. Mitsubishi are having trouble keeping up so they are definitely doing something right. Sportage is a good car but the outlander feels so solid and rugged and ready to go where as the sportage is a bit out there and more city focused
This guy's reviews are always the best, leaning toward Sportage, we test drove and there's so much space, you don't need to adjust the front seats to sit in the back anyway (my partner is 6ft4, I'm 6ft) and the cameras are amazing, no blind spot with the indicator cameras. Both cars seem like great options
Loved the styling of the Sportage at launch, great interior and technology. Have driven the Outlander Aspire (not Exceed) and I love the styling, certainly a huge improvement over the outgoing model. Love the Range Rover-esque front end, especially when optioned with black OUTLANDER lettering. Tough choice, Outlander looks more spacious, especially the adjustable second row. Outlander for me. Another great video. Love the format.
Looking forward to the outlander PHEV review. Would be great if you could do a minor off-road test with it too, just to see if it compares well with the original multi-suv off road winners.
Great comparison as always, and the winner for me is the sportage, but like you, I would go for the diesel better torque, especially in mountainous regions of Australia, and better fuel economy. The new outlander actually looks quite nice on the interior over it's previous model, but I don't like the exterior design at all, Sportage wins the styling for me. People buying these SUVS need to realise, they're AWD, not 4WD, so they're not going to be comparable for major off road use, they're more suited to perhaps dirt roads that have a degree of maintaining done on them, but they'll handle some minor wheel ruts.
Interesting! I just test drove both this week. Ended up getting the Kia, an SX Prestige trim (US). And I'm a big Mitsubishi fan. I traded in a 2011 Outlander GT, and my previous car before that was a Galant. But the technology won me over with the Kia. I also felt it was punchier than the Outlander, not sure if it was in my head, but that's how I felt. I like the Outlander's exterior more, but I like the Sportage's interior more, and I spend more time looking at it from the inside than the outside. People out there look at the exterior rather than the interior, and they won't help me pay the bill, so I went with the Kia 😁 In all seriousness, I think that if you also have these 2 cars in mind 50/50 like I did, and closed your eyes... and picked one... you'd be happy with the outcome!

This was excellent and I enjoyed the format a lot. One question I have is about the rear seat depths, the Sportage’s rear bench looked shallow, was that the side on view playing a forced perspective trick or is it actually shallow? I’m not in the market for either vehicle, I’m just curious.
Very much enjoyed your Sportage Outlander comparison. Especially appreciate that it was in the city where the environment of other vehicles, Freeways, on/off ramps etc, adds to the daily challenge. For me it's nearly a toss up on which car is better. As an Hyundai (2) owner, I'd opt for the Sportage, but by a relatively small margin. And the 7 year warranty would seal the deal.
So none of these wins. The diesel Sportage wasn't here. Going by your comments throughout I think the Outlander is the pick. But seeing them & driving them might be the way to pick one.
FIRST VIEWER COMMENTER HERE HA. btw i prefer the sportage since i have ridden in the outlander and i found the ride just not good and the sportage just looks so much better
My son - a P plater nearly ran into an oncoming car because he didn't know I had that auto steer thing on and the car wanted to maintain a centre-line approach which on a country road was heading into the oncoming car! Not a very good system and not warranted I reckon. (He was driving a GT Rio). At $2.50/l diesel don't think diesel will even be an option these days. Have you wondered though that during the gulf war oil was $110/$120 US a barrel and all we paid was $1.50 for diesel? Today oil is $99 -$110 US a barrel and we are funding weapons for Ukraine sacrificing our own families here in Australia and legally price gouging with everyone's blessings!
We are not funding weapons by buying fuel...don't think anyone has given high fuel prices there blessing, they have no choice but to pay the higher price, just like cost increases in everything from food to cars, there is a massive inflation all around the world..most due to a surge in demand after years of a global pandemic which essentially had most of the worlds economies on hold. Its basic economics..
Don't understand the problem you describe with lane centring: 1. It only functions if it can see line markings. Sounds like the road you were on was unmarked so lane centring would disable. 2. When the car is started, lane centring and cruise control default to off. If you do a driver swap without turning the ignition off then lane centring won't automatically reactivate. 3. Lane centring can be defeated just by turning the steering wheel.
Great review. Love the outlander base spec ES way better than kia shortage SX base trim .sportsge base spec constantly remind you gone with the poverty pack
Great comparison. I thought your back seat passenger on the go part, was really good. No one else does that, usually just sit and discuss whilst stationary but continuing the review as a moving passenger was really good. 👍👍👍 Is the AWD lock in Sportage limited to a speed ? Ie 40kph ?
Thanks Paul, this review was very practical. I still prefer the Outlander, I am just not a fan of this new design language on Sportage and Hyundai Tuscon they look like UFOs to me. Plus, the Outlander PHEV must still enter the market.
Surprised that you didn’t mention the warranty that each offer (happy to be corrected if I missed it). At first I thought that you were comparing the two as they represent some of the longest warranties on offer.
Unfortunately Mitsubishi decided to put the same terrible CVT transmission both Renault koleos and Nissan QASHQAI has. I really like the interior though. Really hopped Mitsubishi would put a reliable engine in this car. It comes with 10 years warranty but limited to 100,000kms.
Abaj006: Got one (NZ) and yes, you get 80km in EV - more in summer (we've had 101km in a single charge), less in winter - maybe more like 70km. It's also extremely fast - 0-100km in 7.0s (in tarmac or power mode). Traction is phenomenal - better than my 4WD Ranger. Hybrid fuel economy? Not really sure - only filled up once - 90%+ in EV mode, but likely 6-7 L/100km (assuming starting with a fully empty battery) - which is lower than the 8.4-9.4 L/100km for the petrol. Got the LS, not the VRX - didnt want the extra weight of 7 seats or the low-profile tires. Lovely car all around. Thing to note about the VRX (or top spec) PHEV is that the rear seats sit slightly higher (because of the batteries I imagine) so with the extra headroom loss due to sunroof, tall people don't fit. Another reason to get the LS model.
I have M. Outlander Exceed. I am very happy with the car and its features. Value for money. I still have my M.Outlander 2008 which is in good condition with 230k kms on the log.
I still have my 08 Outlander as well, with 230KM on the clock. Engine and CVT still runs very smooth. Never tuned the engine up and does not pulsate like my 08 Camry with a 2.5 ltr engine with only 153KM. Mitsu is totally underrated.
Sorry to hear that. Kia's engine is old Japanese Mitsubishi GDI, copy from Hyundai, Hybrid system is freely released Toyota. In addition, the LI battery is the fire making Korean LG. Did you search for Kia resale value? The people know about technology, never buy Korean car.
I can tell you the biggest reason for me to buy the Sportage over the Outlander is the fact that when I sit in the backseat my head is pushed up against the roof. Very uncomfortable indeed whereas the Sportage has plenty of headroom and I’m only 5’11” tall too.
Yikes not good I remember sitting in the back of a pajero sport when I was 6 ft with the same issue now I’m 6’2 Mitsubishi need to lift their game my xc60 has plenty of space+ headroom even with a sunroof.
Only with the sunroof model though - both my boys are 6' and they fit in the back of the new Outlander PHEV with a few inches to spare. Sunroof really cuts into headroom.
@@gmilne13 disappointing still when Volvo can pull off a sunroof and someone who is 6,4 still fits with space used to have A pajero which had miles of headroom but the sport was useless and the outlander same aswell.
Just had a drive in the Sportage and have to say not impressed with the ride quality, it was a bit harsh and the seats were not that comfortable, otherwise a good car (besides the asking price!) The new Nissan X-Trail takes the win!
I tested the petrol model which I found to have poor economy and did not drive or tow as well as the diesel. The diesel model is able to manage mid 50s mpg.
I bought Outlander. Somehow Kia Sportage looks ugly to me from the outside. There is no company signature like other good brands. If this car is launched without the Kia logo on the exterior, hard to find which car is it. However, I wish outlander have done some improvements on a few things such as fuel economy, a bit more space on 3rd-row seating, a bit punchier, placement of driving seating cup holders (a bit annoying to pick up the coffee cup and put it back), infotainment software (it crashes sometimes, also freezes at certain occasions), and may due to big wheels (20')', it doesn't absorb rough roads or road breakers. Overall, this car is absolutely a game changer for Mistubishi and comes with 10 years of warranty. I love it. and PHEV version will be awesome but surely, 15K-20K on top for that.
Has the "tiger nose" which most people wouldn't know and it's quite subtle on this model too. I wanted to like the Sportage to replace my SL Platinum but the piano Black and exterior styling is a bit of a let down.
@@SaahilSethy it gives around 700 km per tank i.e. 7-11 litres per 100km. It doesn't have a good acceleration though considering the engine size, but I don't mind that. It is considered as a family car. If I would have option, I would go for PHEV model of this but it is expensive.
Mitsubishis are very nice. I just test drove the Eclipse Cross and it was a bit out of my price range but I said screw it. Get something I’ll love. When I went to see what my insurance rate would raise to however, I was stunned. It nearly doubled. They’re insanely expensive to insure apparently.
I considered both of these, even ordered an outlander. Then the wait was extended to 9 months. Picked up a 2018 Santa Fe with just 17000km on it for the same money and I'm glad I did, much better car than both of these as it turned out. I just don't get to enjoy much warranty.

I bought a 2020 Outlander GT 2 months ago and I find it so uncomfortable I’m thinking of trading it in already. No matter how much I’ve adjusted the seat I can’t find a comfortable spot
Drove a Kia Sportage GT today. Apart from the firm ride and the dash, it all fell apart. Plastic everywhere, no HUD that I could see (nor the dealer), but the gearbox is on par with a Haval H6, and that's not a compliment. It felt wanting, flat spot on acceleration and then what seemed like full tilt. Actually nearly got me into a prang when test driving coming out of a roundabout as it just would not accelerate quickly. Was so glad to get back into my SP25GT Mazda. The Outlander aspirated model was so much better. Yes, the ride is a bit clunky over rough bumps, but most people don't fang these cars around like on the reviews. It felt refined, more than I expected. I also drove the PHEV and because of the extra weight and the torque, it was a "put a smile on your face" test ride - until the price. Getting up there with pure EV's, so much dearer than a RAV4 Hybrid. A few grand more and I can wait for the Ionic 6. No negotiation by the dealer. Take it or leave it. I told him politely - Nope. To ask $15-16k more than the petrol and so much dearer than the old model (yes, new tech etc. - I get it), but with all the new models of PHEV's due to hopefully hit in the next 12 months, Mitsubishi's reign on a good PHEV will soon be eroded, they just won't accept that yet and negotiate. Their loss.
What are both the autos like on cruise control when you are on a undulating freeway? My wife has a 2011 Sportage and when it’s on cruise it is forever changing gears and fuel consumption is quite high.
Outlander exceed has the same, I bought one and was prepared to wait but someone wanted a colour change so I got theirs and they don’t have one. It’s just the way of the car market at present

This was excellent and I enjoyed the format a lot. One question I have is about the rear seat depths, the Sportage’s rear bench looked shallow, was that the side on view playing a forced perspective trick or is it actually shallow? I’m not in the market for either vehicle, I’m just curious.
Good question! Didn't feel shallow in person - so it could just be the angle :-)
I'd choose the Mitsubishi. I think they are made in Japan. Not fond of turbo drivetrains.
Agreed. 7 year warranty is always better than 10 years.
51 text messages? Nice to know your driving/work takes priority over your social life Paul!🤣👍🏻
So none of these wins. The diesel Sportage wasn't here. Going by your comments throughout I think the Outlander is the pick. But seeing them & driving them might be the way to pick one.
Hey Paul, could you please advise fuel efficiency for both KIA Sportage and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and whose fuel efficiency is more better !
FIRST VIEWER COMMENTER HERE HA. btw i prefer the sportage since i have ridden in the outlander and i found the ride just not good and the sportage just looks so much better
I commented in under a minute of the vid being posted lol

Don't understand the problem you describe with lane centring:
@@frednurk5803yes but I can understand why some poor line marking could cause problems.
I’ve got the MY20 i30 N-Line with a Dual Clutch and it’s a nightmare at low speeds, even after a recall.
05:53 Thanks for covering RADAR cruise control on the Mitsubishi. Just wish you had also covered lane centring.
I own the Sportage GTline diesel, Great car.
Thanks Paul and the team, love your work! Btw, third row headrests looks back to front.
Well spotted.
I PREFER THE OUTLANDER WITH EVERYTHIND IT HAS, LOVE IT
outlander is much impressive 👍
Kia Sportage looks modern and outlander looks cool
Great review. Love the outlander base spec ES way better than kia shortage SX base trim .sportsge base spec constantly remind you gone with the poverty pack
Hey, can you please make a video about sportage sx plus petrol 2L?
There is no video about it in Australia
Thanks
Great comparison.
I thought your back seat passenger on the go part, was really good. No one else does that, usually just sit and discuss whilst stationary but continuing the review as a moving passenger was really good. 👍👍👍
Is the AWD lock in Sportage limited to a speed ? Ie 40kph ?
Not limited to speed
Thanks Paul, this review was very practical. I still prefer the Outlander, I am just not a fan of this new design language on Sportage and Hyundai Tuscon they look like UFOs to me. Plus, the Outlander PHEV must still enter the market.
Should've used the PHEV model. The performance is crazy
Isn’t available in Australia yet, if you’re referring to the outlander phev
I agree its awsome
@@georgemaunder8550 what's the fuel efficiency for Mitsubishi PHEV?
Surprised that you didn’t mention the warranty that each offer (happy to be corrected if I missed it). At first I thought that you were comparing the two as they represent some of the longest warranties on offer.
Sorry, we missed that! It's 7 v 10, but warranty is pretty irrelevant given the Australian Consumer Law.
@@CarExpertAus Could you please clarify?
@@CarExpertAus huh? that makes no sense
It's 100,000 miles and 160,000 kms
Another reason to get the LS model.
you miss out on the sun roof, powered tailgate and 360 camera.
@@cooljool1 All things I can happily live without
OUTLANDER 3:04 passing the speed pump rear wheels was left the ground that is not good for car handling.
Very interesting battle!
I bought a Kia Sportage earlier this year. Very satisfied. 👍
How is the acceleration and pickup? I am considering a 2023 sportage
Sorry to hear that. Kia's engine is old Japanese Mitsubishi GDI, copy from Hyundai,
Hybrid system is freely released Toyota. In addition, the LI battery is the fire making Korean LG.
Did you search for Kia resale value? The people know about technology, never buy Korean car.
It would be cool if you could do a comparison between the lowest spec models
They are normally the lowest sellers in the ranges , bottom of range not that popular
Can you fold the 3rd row and have more space?
How comfortable are the seats on these 2 cars on longer drives? Tia
Just had a drive in the Sportage and have to say not impressed with the ride quality, it was a bit harsh and the seats were not that comfortable, otherwise a good car (besides the asking price!) The new Nissan X-Trail takes the win!
Hey, any idea when kia sportage phev will come to Australia?
Its a pity the dealers have no stock.
Does the Mitsi have onboard GPS? Is it's omission why wireless CarPlay/Auto is permitted vs the Kia?
Yes - the new Nissan infotainment system that it uses comes with inbuilt navigation.
This was before the updated Nissan x trail and a winner for us.
@CarExpert are you going to do any track drive videos with Chris Atkinson? Really miss those videos
Yep. Unfortunately it's impossible to get sufficient track time at the moment with the weather in Queensland creating a backlog at the track.
Mitsubishi has the Absolute best warranty in the market! I am surprised it wasn’t mentioned in this video! 🤔
Kia for me. Looks the business and great tech.
@@IsaacJacobsAu "exterior styling is a bit of a letdown." Absolutely.

could you please advise fuel efficiency Mitsubishi Outlander (L/100kms) and whose fuel efficiency is more better Outlander or Sportage !
@@SaahilSethy it gives around 700 km per tank i.e. 7-11 litres per 100km.
It doesn't have a good acceleration though considering the engine size, but I don't mind that. It is considered as a family car.
If I would have option, I would go for PHEV model of this but it is expensive.

Thanks for the info bro
I value 7 seats ,2nd row blinds and climate control ans hate piano black so its Mitsi for me
Does anybody know if Mitsubishi has the plan to add LKA (lane keep assist) to Outlander?
Yea it has
Mitsubishis are very nice. I just test drove the Eclipse Cross and it was a bit out of my price range but I said screw it. Get something I’ll love. When I went to see what my insurance rate would raise to however, I was stunned. It nearly doubled. They’re insanely expensive to insure apparently.
How’s the 1.6 turbo powertrain reliability for the Kia
Dose both compet against each other
SO which OTHERS are quieter ???
The Sportage dash interior is a bit busy & more claustrophobic than the spacious & elegant Outlander dash.
It just a pitty that we did not get the Canadian spec of the LS as it has a sunroof and electric power seat 😐
( outlander that is )
I considered both of these, even ordered an outlander. Then the wait was extended to 9 months. Picked up a 2018 Santa Fe with just 17000km on it for the same money and I'm glad I did, much better car than both of these as it turned out. I just don't get to enjoy much warranty.
Which state ?
I booked 2 weeks ago , they are saying delivery in first week of September ( SA)
@@krishnapoudel2798 Victoria. I ordered an Exceed at start of December and the delivery date quoted was late February. First week of January it was pushed back to "August/September" so I cancelled the deal and had to look at used options as I needed a car by March.

I bought a 2020 Outlander GT 2 months ago and I find it so uncomfortable I’m thinking of trading it in already. No matter how much I’ve adjusted the seat I can’t find a comfortable spot
Paul when is the 2023 Outlander PHEV review coming?
Would be great to have a comparison against regular Outlander
Their loss.
You're going to get 1 mill subs if you just keep doing exactly this my man! Good luck and thanks for the incredibly valuable videos
Can you do a review on the 2022 Mitsubishi asx exceed?
What are both the autos like on cruise control when you are on a undulating freeway? My wife has a 2011 Sportage and when it’s on cruise it is forever changing gears and fuel consumption is quite high.
Of course, not doubt, Mitsubishi !
Why are we still discussing sportage ? That got 12 months wait period. No one is gonna wait for that, right ?
1000's are waiting...same as rav4 etc etc
Every car has one year wait likes Tiguian etc
Outlander exceed has the same, I bought one and was prepared to wait but someone wanted a colour change so I got theirs and they don’t have one. It’s just the way of the car market at present
Comparing Outlander to the Sorrento makes more sense hence the size difference
I think the Mitsubishi is the better vehicle.
KIA/Hyundai have been improving by leaps and bounds!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice please can you make for electrical car as we want to change from petro to electrical and looking to buy BYD Atto 3 electrical car which is a pioneer in battery manufacturing and this car is worth a buy and please make a code if possible
