  • It's far easier and quicker to check and adjust the chain tension on the single-sided swing arm set up of the Ducati SuperSport (939 or 950). I'm showing you my first attempt at it, which went really well, in the hope it helps you realise how fast and easy it is to do yourself (and therefore check it more regularly to help your chain, sprockets and gearbox last longer).

Seems a few people have invented different types of little measurement tools... whatever works!

I just ordered a C Spanner in the UK and it had 57mm printed on it Stace. :) Love your video's, very informative! I have a 950 S in white and love it. I have found my chain has stretched in around 5500 miles ... So need to adjust it too before service is due. Greetings from the UK. Tim

The eccentric wheel hub is very cool. Good argument for a single-sided swing arm. Looks like it couldn't be easier to adjust! I like that much better than adjusting to 2 tick marks on each side of an axle and potentially having the wheel askew if not adjusted accurately. I like how you measured the torque incrementally when tightening up the hub. I also like how you stopped once you received the first click, instead of click, click, clicking the way I see so many do. That always looks OCD-ish to me. What I found interesting too was without knowing anything else, if I was to feel the tension on the chain as you did prior to measuring it, I would have thought it was too tight.

Thank you! Yeah, I always think doing mechanical things by feel is too subjective... maybe after you've done it hundreds of times you can be accurate enough without measuring...? For me, better safe than sorry!

I use a Ducati t shirt label tag with a small cut, works and fits into the torque wrench box. Nice carpet in your garage. I guess the tree was not with free shipping. 🤔

Yeah I have a very unique garage! Actually, I just wanted to wash the bike before I did the chain, so had it outside already. Ducati t-shirt label - well that's a very different tool to measure the slack!

Hey do you have the link to that service manual you mentioned having? Great videos, thank you!

Thanks. But sorry no, I don't have the link to the manual as I bought a copy tgat prob shouldn't have been for sale. The 939 forum might have a thread about how to get it.

...wow Stacey, you keep your bike super clean? or was that done for the video to avoid any comments? 😉😂

Haha, I keep it super clean. My riding buddies rib me about it. But I do generally wash the bike and clean/lube the chain every 1000kms or so.

I wonder if doing this with the rear wheel on the ground vs on a stand makes a difference because the manual says put it on a stand but that could be for convenience reasons

Yeah not sure... but I didn't think about it at the time so maybe on grass wasn't right. The tension was fine when I checked later in the garage tho.

Where do you live? MCCruise are looking for a 939/950 to test fit their Throttle By Wire Cruise Control. If you, or other reader, is close to Melbourne Australia you might score a reduced price, or even free, unit.

Somewhere I think I wasn't supposed to... a link to buy it was shared on the ducatisuperport929 forum a couple of years ago, but not sure that it's still available.

🤣 I only just cleaned and lubed it. It's not perfect, when you look closely between the outer chain plates. Really should have used a chain brush.
