Wow! Gene was actually acknowledging another wrestling company, and the fact that other world championships existed out of the WWF realm, with that Adrian Adonis comment...and in front of Vince no less!! Surreal.
@thebradking2001 Not really. He said 'a former world tag team champ'. He does not say 'AWA tag champ;. So if you did not read the mags, you would assume he ment the wwf straps (since you most likely didn't know their were other promotions if you didnt read the mags). Vincw would often say at this time: 'so and so has been wrestling in the Florida area', which you could assume back then ment he was having matches in the state of Florida, not that there was a nother promotion.
I thought Mene Gene debuted way earlier in the 8, s not 1984. Wow, Vince had a plan and a dream team in 1984. This, Hogan winning the title, Wrestlemania 1 year later among so many other things I'm sure the WWF fans of the 80s can tell. Yall were lucky, but I had the Attitude and Ruthless aggression era. But I always love hearing new things about the Federation Era. Or I guess Golden era to some.
A lot of people see Mene Gene with Bobby Heenan, Jesse Ventura or Hulk Hogan and it is actually AWA footage. The WWE has been clever with cutting those clips in a way it appears to be WWF.
You can see it in Vince's eyes he is proud to have Okerlund on his team!
You can see Vince’s facial expression like “damn, this guy is good” as soon as Gene starts talking. RIP
I remember when they used to wear tuxedos to call the matches.
R.I.P. Mean Gene Okerlund :( great man
The best to ever do it, Gene will forever be missed
This was Gene's "Rick Rude in 1997" moment. The AWA's syndicated New Year's show that day had him all over it.
R.I.P Mean Gene
Wrestling from the Chase- the heart of NWA St. Louis territory. The war was on!
RIP Mean Gene

Not unusual for 1984 really. The WWF cone of silence didn’t happen until the following year.
The newly acquired interviewer Mean Gene Okerlund
Late December 1983
Vince says "PRO WRESTLING" wow!
Lolllllll, I know what you mean.
Okerlund never said 'Dr. D David Schultz', rather, he always refered to him as 'Dr. David Schultz'.
Mean Gene was outstanding and a legend.
Gene Okerlund was the voice of the WWF from 84 - 89
Really up through 93.
St. Louis
Dude this is at the chase??? how?
They got the Rights to wrestling at the Chase They would tape episodes at the kiel auditorium but it did last very long
Mean Gene was 1 of the best in this business
