#5 DSG or Direct Shift Gearbox is an electronically controlled Dual clutch Gearbox with a fully automatic or semi automatic gear selection.The first DCT Transmission was developed and produced by Porsche in the 1980's. (Borg Warner designed the DSG transmition 15-20 years ago). It was made for the Porsche 962 Race car. The DSG transmition automates 2 seperate gearboxes and clutches working as 1 unit. (Similiar to the DCT Transmition). By using 2 Independant clutches the DSG transmission can achieve faster shift times compared to a manual transmission, and requires no tourque converter.
#4 DCT or Dual Clutch Transmission is an Automated Manual Transmission, DCT is closely related to manual transmissions.DCT transmissions use 2 seperate clutches for odd and even gear sets, they're also known as 2 seperate manual transmissions. They're also both encased within 1 housing and working together as 1.
#3 Semi Auto, Stronic or Semi automatic transmission is a combination between an auto and a manual transmission. It has an automated clutch and a shifting mechanism that allows the driver to shift manually. This allows for more controlled gear selections.
#2 AT, Automated or Automatic transmission also known as the self shifting transmission is the type of transmission that would automatically change gears as the car moves (obviously), I mean its the most commonly known transmission. Technically the driver deosn't have to shift gears manually. This transmission is best suited for higher speeds and higher tourque outputs.
#1 CVT or Continueously Variable Transmission also known as the shiftless transmission is the only auto transmission that can smoothly and continueously move through gear ratios.(they dont have real gears like the manual or the automatic transmission), this allows for more maintained angular velocity. Angular velocity is how fast an object that rotates another point or position. (Look up CVT angular velocity). Anywaysthe CVT transmission is 88% more efficiency than any transmission allowing the engine to have smooth power delivery, maximize its reliability and run at a stable and constant speed.
Even a Belt driven CVT transmission offers nearly the same amount of efficiency as well. Honda's, Toyota's, Lexuses, Kia's, and Nissans have produced a ton of cars with CVT transmissions. Honda's CVT transmissions are more reliable than other lineups with CVT transmissions.

Yeah dsg transmissions are reliable on the tdi just not as affordable as the regular auto or the cvt transmission.

VW cars have DSG transmission.
Not that reliable. The torque converter one is better for reliability . They last a long time. I know people who have had issues with the DSGs a lot . I am talking about the wolkswagen . But as the vid says. CVT and the classical torque converter are way more reliable.
The VW DSG transmission to my knowledge is one of the most unreliable transmission in the car industry. According to mechanics, it can only last around 100K kilometers before the megatronic unit needs to be replaced, costing around US$ 3000.
True, loads of vehicle here in Namibia dont even reach 80,000km before problems start. Mechatronic unit failure
The vw group made two groups of dsg transmissions
dry dual clutch ( used in tsi 1.4 )= trash unreliable with a lot of cronic problems (mecatronic is the worst part)
wet dual clutch (used in 2.0 tsi and larger ones)= ok in reliability but just too expensive in comparison with classic torque converter...

Depending on the HP , your heavy foot and your judicious maintenance will make a big difference as to which transmission will give you the best chance of long reliability .
I got 2 golfs with DSG7, 3 times I needed to change the full mechatronic, just a trash. This put in question your full list

All Cvt's are reliable but not fun to to drive. Dsg dtc and all other dual cluth is okey within warranty period and mostly a software issue and suddently stop the car and keep coming back to the garage if under warranty.

Cvt is the most reliable automatic transmission but not fun to drive compare to dsg and dct. 50k gear oil interval in my 2007 hyundai santa fe still running like new since they one. I had a brandnew rensult megage dsg had i software issues sometimes gear not responding not safe in motorway and i get rid of it.
Ya ever heard of Nissan? Well the CVT they use, made by Jatco, is absolute trash!! Unless I'm mistaken, there's a class action lawsuit against Nissan because of all the failed and problematic CVTs out there! Toyota used the same one very briefly, but quickly realized how awful its reliability was then decided to make their own CVT. I'm glad yours has been reliable though. Hyundai/Kia seems to be doing really well now.
It's not fair only luxury cars get to have the best transmission why can't dodge charger have a dual-clutch transmission great car a lot of horsepower but transmission is slow to put it down to the ground

Old video. And yes some dsg transmissions are reliable. Dsg7 is a wet clutch transmission which is the most unreliable dual clutch tranny
What a load of crap this video. Cvt reliable? :DD. Total joke. S tronic(DSG) is ok 7speed wet clutch, but ZF 8 speed tiptronic is the King of auto gearboxes.
