59:20 Instead of creating custom swatches with the lines, you could make the lines/abstract shape a pattern and select the option to size the pattern to the art. It behaves much better that way

58:52 (Use the pathfinder with the intersect option and you'll be left with the design you wanted in a square form)
1:00:41 Trim only the right and bottom edges so that you don't create white spaces when the shape repeats itself

This was one of the best Illustrator tutorials I've ever watched! I am a self-taught graphic designer, so I've got pockets of knowledge that allow me to do what I need to do, but I've also got quite a few gaps. This tutorial goes through all of the important tools without being exhausting. It filled a TON of gaps for me in about an hour!

Thanks for the tutorial. A good tip for zooming in and out is ALT mouse scroll wheel.
You don't need to fill a shape to make it a clipping mask - the clipping shape doesn't need a fill or a stroke.
I can't get the stripy fills to work either.
At around 1:08:47, another way to round out that corner is to use the direct selection tool (A). Just select that specific anchor at the upper right, a circle with a dot in it's center will appear. Pull that circle 45 degrees downward opposite (in this case left), and it will start rounding that corner. How much roundness you want depends how far you pull the circle.

59:43 sideways line works when you double click the pattern Swatch then tick the size tile to art and move tile with art.

Great tutorial! One quick question... for the top corners on the final logo - your techniques are good methods but why wouldn't you just use the live corner radius tools built in to Illustrator?
That technique with inverting the circle to cut it out is great, I have never thought of that!
Creating that pattern swatch is blowing my mind. If only I knew about that years ago. Thank you for this video.

I think the fastest and easiest way to create a curve on the top of the D was to "smooth" that one corner after expanding it. :) I tried it and it turned out perfect.

At 1:00:55 you needed to just keep one of the horizontal edges and one of the vertical edges instead of deleting all 4. Deleting all 4 mean't you were tesselating too much space and that's why you ended up with the weird pattern still. You can always check if it will turn out right by copying the shape and placing it next to the original, then you can see if anything funky is going on :)
