This is my dream: England, searching a pub to drink a beer and find Dave playing! 🤙🍻
BANKSY- BANSKY almost same dream but I prefer Kate Beckinsale 😍🍻
Mao Templar Campofranco 😂
same dream adding KB joins me and finds she loves me......
Another great intro and great advice with loads of cool tones - swells are stunning - the Jag rocks
Nice one!... That's such a lovely Strat buddy!
I’m sure that’s his custom made Oswald strat
Cheers Muchly Mr Mike. : )
Hi Dave , great video , whooooaaawwww the bow intro it's just phenomenal , let me up side down , amazing Dave , you are awesome musician!!!! what a great video to watch !!!! I love your Current Live Setup
Dave makes this ol' blues road dog smile everytime I watch one of his videos.
At the ripe ol' age of 108 (bluesmen exaggerate sometimes) I still get excited about guitars, tones, amps and getting to play.
So glad to see that there are still young ones, willing to lug an amp and play gigs.
I'm not knockin' all the UA-cam guys with pretty home studios that seem to never gig but to me it is like cooking hamburgers in your basement just for yourself and never sharing them with anyone.
Hats off to Dave for sharing his knowledge on UA-cam but ESPECIALLY for going out and playing F O R people. It is a beautiful gift to give the world.
thanks; Dave, you are a rare breed, friend.
BTW, that is a lovely amp stand Marshall has produced. lol
Thank you very much indeed and it is a rather snazzy stand isn't it. Hahaha. Thank you again. :)
Awsome video & playing, & totally Awsome with that bow, you truly are an inspiring artist, not just a guitarist, rock on bro !!!
I'm rewatching this for at least the third time... this time you've got lots of tracers and the music is flowing from you in vibrant colors... thanks Mr. Dave...
I absolutely enjoy your videos! You have true talent sir. Keep up the great work.
Not surprised the Katana has become your main amp! Same happened to me when I got my 50. I gig mine every week using the crunch channel on the 25w setting with the master all the way up and channel volume at 9 o'clock. Sounds HUGE!! ...
Hello and good morning to you too Dave, and you are my most favorite enthousiastic guy who made me discover the Boss Katana 50 amp for real!! The rest is history, and also the Rory Gallagher experience of course!!!
Do I see the Boss Katana 50 behind you Dave! This is so awesome to see again!!!
Great setup and beautiful performance Dave!🙏☮️🎸☯️🎼🎶🤘👌👌👍👍
This was great Dave.Tones are sounding spot on dude.
Brilliant. This is really cool to see Dave, thanks for the insight
Like the idea of the reverb on the exp pedal...going to try that on my Eleven rack.....Also going to try the multiple delay types as well. Thank you for sharing!
I forgot to say my 50 is used in tandem with a katana 100 as a stereo pair...best live settup I've ever had...who needs valves eh...👍😎
Great video! One can tell you like this set up, its just like you were a painter with set of best canvas, brushes etc. - personality comes through :) Thanks!
absolutely beautiful playing in the intro!
That bowed Jag had some veeery horror-movie esque sounds coming from it. I LOVE IT.
It doesn't matter what video Dave posts I just love watching them cause he's so geniune and looks like a really cool person to hang out with
this is really cool sound dave. Since i got my katana head..never use other amps anymore. Great video. Thanks man
the darkness can come! we have a lot of toys for playing for our souls-rockn rolly, davy, you are a great artist on the gitschn!-+ a well entertainer too!
Awesome stuff Dave sounds great love the Jag!I'llhave to get a bow and try that sounds great,Cheers
Loving the tones!
Come on Dave! You have to learn to play with feeling! Just kidding of course. Wow! Well done man. Really liked what was happening right at the beginning.
Love love love the bowing... please can we have more of that :o)
Shades of Dazed in the Cornfield with the bow. I like it.
i know what pedals i,m gonna be getting next ..Dave you are the man !!!
Great stuff, Dave! I wish I could get those kinds of cleans from my Katana.
47 minutes in ! 😯 crazy cool blues on the Jag . Please do a short video on how to play that improve Dave !!
Love that explosive tone!
Amazing Dave, how can anyone dislike this.
Great vid Dave🤙 really enjoy your playing man cheers
Does anyone remember the other Marshall pedal he used? I think it was a Jack Hammer.....was that just a pedal with more gain than the Guvnor?
Oh, I got the Tone City 2 channel plexi pedal... Is THE best drive pedal ever! Get some serious plexi tones from it and kick the boost in for some leads! Love it!!!
You took me on an emotional ride...that solo was great.
Thank you and so happy you liked it. : )
Dave,, it's been awhile since I stopped in.. I'm glad to see your subscribers are still growing... I've recommended your channel to several people at Guitar Center who I've met if they are in to John Frusciante ... All The Best from America
Thank you very much indeed. : )
You have a pretty nice house from the looks of things
Looks cozy
Guitar is always first ! Amp second, pedals etc 3rd. It's a hierarchy of excellence that allows Dave Simpson to display his genius. With a guitar you are enabled, with an amp doubly so and the pedals are the icing on the cake. :-) . Edit - Dave's turning into a prog rocker . It's my youth all over again ! They do say what goes around comes around :-) . Careful with that axe Eugene and Set you controls for the heart of the Sun.
About 5-6 years ago I played something just like the intro. Same style and everythingminus the way pedal. And the other pedals. Only used a zoom processor and a orange amp. Damn I wish i would have recorded it. Brought back memories and bliss. Thanks man
Thank you. : )
Utterly incredible intro.
Cool mini rig. Here's what you could do for a cool stereo setup, which I have a similar Marshall combo am also going to do. I'll be using my Marshall combo with speaker upgrade either an evh20watt or Jensen together with either a Fender hot rod Deville 2x12 or my first combo.
Try to find a Radial ABY and Radial EFX. The ABY Radial can be used together or simultaneously and the Radial EFX will be like a dual Two effects loop in front you instead of running like four cables to each amp.
The Marshall is excellent!!
My brother has preached about this amp until I feel like a salesman being I have their specs imprinted on me. I pray the guitar gods find it within their hearts to bring him one soon before his head blows off lol! Keep on rocking kind Sir!
Beautiful intro. I enjoy your channel!
Thank you very much. :)
Great vid as usual there Dave! Very interesting on the abilities of the Katana 50... The line 6 30w that I picked up for next to nothing as a practice amp is on its way out and seriously looking for a replacement. The fact that the Katana 50 is giggable is very appealing and would certainly make me not need to lug around my Peavey Valveking 2x12 for smaller gigs! It's just TOO damn heavy and LOUD!! And there was me looking at just getting the Katana mini for a little practice amp... Now looking at getting BOTH!! Gee, THANKS Dave ;-)
Hi Akwam, I just got a KT50 and I have a Line6 30watt with a 12" that I use for small places and jams.
The KT50 weighs 25 lbs (12kilos?) and is tone-e-liscious!!! Especially if you lean to the clean and slight overdrive tonal world. (It is probably a great metal amp too but I don't use it for that) Those Line6 30 watt amps certainly have their place and I still like mine but this Katana is pretty fantastic, with no harsh peaks and no hollow tones like the Line6. It takes me back to some nice Silverface Deluxes I've owned. Really!!
It is so tiny and light, you may not want a Katana mini. The half watt setting on the Katana 50 makes it truly room mate/family friendly.
A single liquor store robbery should easily pay for TWO of 'em.
Don’t get me wrong they are all awesome but what you did with that Jag just made me put it from the maybe to the must have list.
After seeing you play such interesting and awesome amps, it's kinda funny that you still choose such an easy setup like this for live. Like, not even a WH10.
I know the good stuff is often heavy and expensive tho... And you might not wanna take it to clubs where it can get stolen. But like, the Katana on Accoustic / Governer combo, really grinds my gears :D But whatever works, I guess.
And it shows whats beeing an artist is about, finding your own right way to express yourself, and not just doing what everyone else does.
And I bet, from listening on a gig, people would never guess what you play, but think it's some huge marshall 2x12 kinda stuff :D
Proper guitar work
Soulful intro
Edit: still wating for a "sound like Jonny greenwood" video
DAVE!!!!...great idea...put the Katana in a bluebreaker cab....sweet sounds sweet looks...( i did that with my marshall code 50)
I just found a Master Reverb 30 pretty much in mint condition, planning to use it in stereo along with my Valvestate 8040 :) good gravy...
Yeah it's awesome Dave!!!
Yes! Peter Green on a strat thru the Boss Katana!
Beautiful jam
I have the Katana, and I Love it, but I must be doing something wrong. I will be trying your method, today..I also just ordered the Orange Crush. Cheers!
The jaguar sounds great
katana sounds awsome, ive just got back into guitar after eight years of not playing, ive ordered the katana 50 and squire custom vintage strat there coming in couple days cant wait to get back into playing :)
Have fun when you get it. :)
Consistently this man likes non tube amps. Respect.
SimonC7777777 And Dave sounds better and plays with more feel than the guys on That Pedal Show and their $20 grand worth of gear.
I learned a ton from this video!
I am so so happy to hear that. : )
Great video Dave, thanks for showing us your live set-up, but the bit that got me was the Bowing on your Jag, that sounded fantastic. Oh, now you have your Tele, will you be playing any of Roy Buchanan’s songs ? The first thing I heard/saw him play was his ‘The Messiah Will Come Again’ ( his spoken intro to the song setting the story was fantastic ), and as we all know was covered by the late great Gary Moore. I know you’ve played it at least once on your Vintage but I’d like to hear your version on your Telecaster. Thanks again Dave. 👍🏻
Thank you very much and possibly at some point I'll play some Roy. : )
Good stuff Dave
you remind me of jimmy page and jose revueltas, he is an amazing mexican guitar player and he uses the box sometimes to play the guitar
yt
Hey Dave curious I used to use my line 6 DLY Mod.... but I found the spikes in volume very hard to deal with...I was going to mod the line 6. But I went the cheap way, got a cheap EBay analog pedal (sounds great) and my Boss DD5......I think I may purchase another Boss Katana Head to go with my stereo Marshall CAB. I've been using a ADA MP1 Stereo Preamp and a Marshall Valve State 80W Solid State Power Amp, even though I have a decent sound...I'm not getting younger and the rack system is darn heavy.. I've falling in love with the Katana but its not a stereo sound which I really like, choruses sound fuller and nothing beats a ping pong stereo effect .....Love your work...I'm sure if you wanted you would have switched over to Computer audio software but I love that your all about physical Amps...nothing like it...cheers from across the Atlantic Dave
Thx for this 👍👍👍
Awesome opening!, inspiring......that's what you are!
Thank you. : )
HEY DAVE! that[ basic ] tone with just the guitar and katana is killer! and did i hear you right is that the acoustic setting on the katana? thats crazy you are crazy dave! crazy!
Thank you very much and I do indeed run everything into the acoustic channel. : )
After corona is over I will make sure to catch a live show of yours
Dave. No one else is like you. Great in spirit. Thank you for your continued output. Inspiring. Informative. Intriguing.
Thank you very much. :)
Your "clean tone" is glorious Dave, the katana is at least half the price of my bassbreaker 15 and you make it sound ten times better.
Magnificent.
Thank you. :)
Holy fuck balls that intro was amazing!
Thanks once again for sharing. I always learn something from each video I watch. Have you ever tried one of the Marshall Master Lead Combos? They appear to be similar to the master reverb model you have. Made around the same time.
Thank you very much and I am happy to hear that. I have tried them yeps and I really want to get my hand son one again. Maybe one day. There awesome amps. :)
Best with all the pedals on 😂😂😂😂👍👍👍👍
Great sound. Be interested in your opinions on the Katana 100 2x12 and the Katana Artist, if you get a chance to play them.
If you get a second Katana maybe go for a 100. It has a better speaker and if you ever want the fx loop or to get the programmable footswitch, it's there. Then you'll have a choice of louder vs more portable.
Hi Dave, many thanks for showing us your live setup as it is so helpful. Just a quick one: does your mic from the amp go into a mixer, and then to a PA speaker, or does the mic go somewhere else such as a DI box? A friend (bassist) and I are hoping to do a live gig when things settle down, so any advice to help us get started will be very much welcomed Cheers!
Transition at 14:10 hats off.
More vids like this please Dave.....Where we can see your pedal board, and see what pedals you are using at each point of the piece your playing.
I'll see what i can do. I do like making these vids. : )
very Sigur Ros with the Jag
I have a Katana 50 and run it on acoustic mode as well when using my pedal board but it sounds like a toy compared to my Fender HRD
You should do more katana videos...sounds you like out of it, what you typically have loaded on it, etc. New lover of your vids man, keep up the good work!
Thank you very much and I shall do. :)
Love to see Dave is so committed to the Katana. Was going to ask why not the Katana 100, as some say it sounds a bit better, has an effects loop and you can use the GA-FC footswitch. I suppose Dave has explained - the 50 is more than loud enough, he doesn't use the effects loop and uses external effects so doesn't need the GA-FC. Hmm...was going to buy the 100 or head but might rethink. Suppose Dave never uses a looper....
Ah - this 4 years ago. Must check on Dave gear updates.
you are epic man
Thank you again. :)
Tone at the 14:30ish mark. So beautiful. Mixture of SRV and another familiar soumd. Can't think of it right now. I need that tone
Maybe a little Clapton?
Merlin of Guitar styles.
Thank you very much. : )
How can I get backing tracks through my katana 100...love your style .....and your vidios. I feel it....we don't have enough music that feels anymore
Hey Dave, great video and fantastic playing! :) I was maybe thinking of buying an Tone City Golden Plexi very soon to have set for a very low gain tone, and use it together with my Boss DS-1, after, for an High-Gain(Read High-Gain for an Plexi, not JCM800) 70s-80s AC/DC /Thin Lizzy/ZZ Top Rythm Tone, and with my Boss Blues Driver for an Mid-Gain 60s-70s Led Zeppelin/Free/Jimi Hendrix/Cream Rythm Tone. Im planning to buy an eq pedal to boost the signal after it when i go to solo. What are your thoughts on achieving a Marshall Rythm tone this way? im asking you cause you got both the Golden Plexi and DS-2(Almost the same as DS-1). I really like the gain-profile/Crunch on the DS-1, but the frequency/fullness is just not right for the 70s Marshall sound im after with a fairly clean amp and a Fender Stratocaster with both single coil and a Mini Humbucker (Seymour Duncan Jb jr) as versatility. I am currently using the Marshall MG100hdfx in the clean channel, but i am planning to buy an Quilter Tone Block 202 for the clean tone.
Also what settings are you using on the Golden Plexi here, and on your Marshall MG100? Take Care, and Rock On! \m/
Hey Dave! I love the Katana 2. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. Am I correctly understanding that you mainly use the Katana as transparent as possible to ad color by using some kind of modeling, like the golden plexi or the amp sims in the zoom for example? Anyway you make any piece of equipment sound good :-).
Thats correct yeps. I just use the katana as a clean base for my pedals. Thank you very much for watching. : )
Hi Dave, great videos, I've been watching for a wee while now. Has the Orange CR120H been officially dethroned by the Katana? What is there in the way of differences/similarities/quality of sound, etc? How about a direct comparison vid of the two? Does your Zoom add any kind of digital brittleness? I was gigging with a Digitech RP500 but was unsatisfied with the way it rendered the sound, leaving it a bit harsh and unorganic, even with all effects and sims bypassed. Pedal chain is going all analogue now. Just need an amp louder than my Ibanez TSA 15H! Smashing stuff again Dave, cheers from southwest France
Thank you very much.
The CR hasn't be de throned nopes.
I've done my back in from years of carrying heavy marshall 4X12's so I had had to downsize.
Theres no real difference to be honest. Both amps sound AWESOME. : )
The Zoom doesn't add a brittleness nopes.
Thank you for watching. :)
Do you always use clean tone on the Katana? I'm having problems on putting distortion on the crunch channel, it gets a weird clipping.
Sounds good bro.
Just wondering, what's your trick for keeping out the single coil hum/buzz? Do you use noiseless pickups?
I don't have a trick. :)
Has there ever been a piece of gear (guitar, amp, pedal) that you've owned that you DON'T like? You give everything a great write up haha
I have hated many things that have come into my possession. I don;t like doing negative reviews though because just because I don't like it doesn't mean it wont work for someone else. If that makes sense. :)
@@thedavesimpson Don't get me wrong, it's great to see. Lovely change from the usual high end stuff that's promoted by others. Your channel reminds me of a local guitar shop that (sadly) shut down near me. There would be maybe one Fender MIM Strat on the wall, the rest would be cheap, obscure brands you'd never heard of but most played absolutely spot on. Keep it up, quality channel 😁
I'd give my gonnads to be able to play like that
Definitely one of them
Hello Dave great video as always i was just wondering cause i'll get a katana 100 soon that if actually is it possible to make it works on the acoustic channel with overdrive/fuzz/disto pedals like you said it is set up at the beginning of the video? I'm a bit doubtful because despite the fact your gain and volume are max these types of pedals hates clean channels and i guess acoustic is even cleaner than clean. Anyway i'll try soon but if you could explain me why it seems to work with you? Thankss :)
I honestly don't know why it works i'm afraid. I just tried it one day and it just made my pedal respond the way i wanted.
I did use the crunch channel before this for a little bit but it wasn't what i wanted so i went searching and just found the acoustic channel nails it. : )
Sorry. This isn't a great answer but I honestly don't know how it works.
Nice yo
Great now i gotta buy a bow.
I swear my katana 50 is defective. mine sounds nothing like yours in either this vid or the original demo you did :/
Dave, do you still gig with the Katana 50 or has the Katana Artist completely taken its place? I’ve gigged with the 50 and enjoy it. But was wondering if it’s worth upgrading to the Artist.
Eithers great. If your happy i'd stick to the 50. :)
Love the swell with volume button😏 im wondering what kind of reverb you use just after explain the pedalboard chaining Dave? Maybe spring?🤔
Its just a hall reverb from the zoom. :)
@@thedavesimpson Thank you😊
Maybe I missed it but as for your pedal board itself is that something you built on your own or one you bought? Also do use a case for it when you travel?
Its a Diago board I bought and i do use a case when i travel. :)
You should get the Boss 100w Head next and try it on a 4x12
