Wow - that acoustic version of Space caught me off guard - superb!! A great reminder of while we love, love, love all these pedals and tones, it all comes together with a great a song!
Well done fellas. Great guests and great show. It's unlikely my board will ever have a Metal Zone, but I really appreciated learning about it in context here. Also, great discussion on the EQ considerations when going from 3-piece to 5-piece live.

Simon seems like a bloody nice chap. So passionate in his thoughts towards music, and in his performance, even when he's just demonstrating some tones on UA-cam channel. Buuuuuuttttt..... the winning moment for me, was the look on Dan's face when he was smashing Red through Simon's rig at the end. Top show chaps. One of my faves.

First off, what a great guest. I watched some video of his band and they are incredible. He's a natural performer. It's a crime that I'm just hearing about them now, but I'm so glad I did.
But I thought the way I think of baseline tones--Cleanish, Middle and Rocking, was dumb and I never really said it out loud. For me, it was "Clean Hendrixy," "Heavy Cream/Middle Zeppelin" and "Weezer." Those were sort of my guideposts. Lately I've been looking for a more "studio guy OD," which might be a problem the new Wampler pedal solves.
I'm writing a lot because I'm so excited that I can stop feeling like a nutter for wanting "Cleanish, Some More and Full On Rock" to be how I talk about this. I guess I felt silly. I now have permission to be silly.

Love what he does with the clean amp underneath you can hear the ‘clarity’ in the heavy tones. However, most of the venues I play freak out at the size of the AC30 so I can only imagine the look on their faces as I come through the door with 2 amps (never mind 3!!). Any tips on achieving a similar effect with pedals? Imagine its just a case of experimenting with gain stacking? I do this a little already as I run 4 or 5 drive/distortion/fuzz pedals on the board as I like different textures for different songs/parts (was also interested in Simons comments and journey here!). Any tips on direction that would speed up the trial and error gratefully received. Great episode, love your work! 🤘

    That was just fabulous fun.
Also, on the off chance that Simon reads these - my 10 year old daughter & I were in a record shop for one of the record store days back in the summer, I was buying bits & pieces and out of the blue she asked me to get her the new Biffy album (on gorgeous blue vinyl too).
I saw the band live years ago at Milton Keynes, great outdoor gig, but hadn’t heard much recent stuff, and I wasn’t sure what to expect.
We brought it home, she put it on the hifi, I had to wince through a few choice Anglo Saxon words 🤣 ( I guess she hears it at school ) ... but my god it sounded house-shakingly *epic* (Cop Syrup in particular)...
And now my daughter is picking away at a little nylon acoustic I bought her...
and when she’s ready for a Metal Zone I’ll be there for her. (Probably still find one for £75, too).
More power to your right arm, sir.

That man, and his band, are utter legends. _Puzzle_ saved my life, pretty much, many years after it was first released.
I've said it before, but I'll say it again: it'd be ace if you could persuade Mike Vennart to come on the show. The man's a guitar genius, a great songwriter, and has some pretty great anecdotes in the bag...

“I need to feel my brain shake”. What a fanatic show. Thank you Simon (Editing), Churd, Dan, Mick and Simon N. A joyous celebration of tone and why we all play.

I knew nothing of Biffy Claro before TPS brought it to my attention and even then I didn’t really get into them. Saying that, I need to give them another look, Simon energy and outlook are second to none. And while I’m giving them another look, I need to get that Metal Zone out of the closet and check it out. Great show guys.

I don't own a metalzone but Olaf says to get the best out of it you should put it through the send and return of your amp, counter intuitive I know, but if anyone knows, he does. I hope that is helpful for you, keep rockin'!

@@SSRT_JubyDuby8742 yeah. I’ve heard about using the Metal Zone as a preamp. I have time this weekend, think I’ll try it out. Thanks Julian.

Every interview with Simon is so enjoyable. He perspires joy and honesty like a 6year old. He's still a kid inside. That might be the reason why he doesn't seem to age. Let the freak flag fly!

I've never heard of Biffy Clyro, other than hearing the name mentioned on TPS, but based upon the sounds Simon is making, I'm wondering how it's possible I've never heard of them or heard their music, considering they've been around for apparently about 25 years, now, with three #1 albums in the UK recently? I hope Simon doesn't mind the comparison, but the first thing that comes to mind is a comparison to Swervedriver, of whom I am a fan, and a little bit of Hum, too, especially with the big dynamic shifts and the harmonic structures. Simon is wringing some glorious noise out of his guitar, exactly the kind of thing that makes me sit up and take notice. Thanks, TPS, for turning me on to something new!

Me the pedal virgin sees this board on the floor looking all empty floor pedalboard with a switcher/loop dealy and a metal zone. Fails to notice the massive cabs and the massive RACK OF GEAR. Oooho, says me, the pedal virgin, a minimalist.

Balance Not Symmetry was their best record in years. While Simon wasn’t trying to find singles in that record there were so many heavy hitters. Love the blend of different styles too.
