@@vars666 Yeah. At least the weird uncle would like...let me have one beer if my mom wasn't around. And maybe even show me a cool thrash band or two...all Finn ever did was call me an incel because I liked some band he didn't like.
Seeing how he built an entire channel around topics he quite literally doesnt care about devalues everything he has ever made in my eyes and it's very disheartening, it makes him untrustworthy as a personality or a creator of any kind. Makes me feel like i wasted my time being invested in his content ☠️ That aside, it was a great interview that was very enlightening as a viewer
Yeah and think about it: He talked SO MUCH about his past in the hardcore and punk scene and how much he knows about this and that music and how much he's experienced, and he's always talked a lot about what bands and artists he likes and doesn't like and so on - and now we know it was all dishonest BULLSHIT for all these years. I mean, anyone who's paid attention already knew he's a hypercapitalistic Libertarian who only cares about profit. But the fact that he's been bullshitting everyone throughout all his UA-cam career is next level ruthless CEO shit. I can 100% guarantee you Finn is on UnitedHealthCare's side and thinks their practices are totally justified.
Like I feel way more betrayed than I should but yeah. I don’t know if I’ve ever taken the time to unsubscribe to a channel but I just did with PRMBA. Not that he cares or anyone does but he literally just got his bag and said F you it was all lie and you’re all stupid. Cool, thanks Finn.
lol i know he just keeps digging himself deeper. the contradictions are glaring and obvious. i think he is more or less pouting about the fact that people realized he didn't have that much to offer after all and rather than adjust and push himself as a creator, he just wants to go on a PR tour whining about it while also somehow trying to get the audience to believe he never actually cared the content he created in the first place. what a dweeb
He is clearly done with UA-cam, having made enough industry contacts. And if he ever decides to return, the approach of "I have no principles, I’ll just pander to whoever will watch" seems to work for quite a few people these days.
I think he just cemented the death of any of his popularity. No body likes someone who’s inauthentic and the fact he just came straight out and said it is wild lol
funny thing is it could even cost him business from people on LinkedIn. He's assuming they're all passionless robots who also "don't care about music whatsoever". He should know they're gonna be real people with real interests, people who care about stuff. Beyond money. Not much to vibe with from him if you're a real person with interests outside of LineGoUp
Finn's condescending tone throughout all of this and his "just for the money" approach completely undermines everything he's ever done. The dude also ran a podcast and interviewed a crap ton of other musicians but now he's trying to spin a yarn of him never actually giving a shit? Complete asshole attitude.
He didn't never give a shit, he doesn't give a shit NOW because he's left it behind. How do you think you would feel if your boss (an audience is effectively a boss) forced you to talk about an aspect of your job that you have no interest in for several years instead of talking about the part of it that you're actually passionate about
@ still doesn't really add up. He always gave off a vibe of being passionate about music and talking about it from the lens of someone who watched the scene happen and grow from the start. Notice his demeanor when referencing Linkin Park and the Alient Ant Farm/CKY situation; he's brushing it off like someone who never geniunely cared about music to begin with, which is what he seems to want everyone to believe.
@@brysontrotman5865 it's not so black and white though, look at any top-tier content creator and you can clearly tell they're proud of what they're making, no one cares about what you're doing until you care hard enough.
@@CharlieViking95 he DID watch the scene from the start, the HARDCORE scene. Finn was a hardcore punk fan, he knew about hardcore punk because he was a part of that scene since the early 90s. He's being dismissive about those other things because those were never the bands he was interested in and he's clearly tired of pretending like he cares about them. Why would he put it the effort to keep up a facade that he's left behind? He already knows people are gonna hate him regardless, so why waste his energy?
Finn has a closet full of band merch and a body covered in band tattoos… but doesn’t care about music. Bummer to see Finn so offended by something that worked but wasn’t his favorite thing in the world.
Dude is such a liar. Yeah I believe that he hates most of the online music community but there’s no way he would’ve streamed and posted videos so consistently for years if he really hated it that much.
Finn has always wanted to come across as "I'm smarter than you" . Like now he's basically like "oh you should have known, i would never listen to those shitty bands that my audience associates with" he's the smartest person in the room and everyone has to know. Too cool to smell what he's selling...
He has always openly admitted that his research was Wikipedia and that he mostly just made low effort content. Hardly the way someone wanting to appear ‘smarter than’ anyone would act.
Yet matters wrose he mentioned in one of his videos he said metal fans are know it alls but he's doing the exact same thing of what he's accussing them of doing which makes him a hypocrite at the end of the day.
finn comes off as super jaded in this video. he seemed pretty authentic on his channel back in the day and even said he didnt want to come off as a dick, but man hes just coming off as bitter in this
@@thewholetrail I think he was a keen presenter, but he seemed pretty detached alot of the times, that always clued me in as someone who studied the algorithms and just struck while the iron was hot
@@darrenthetuber743 He was openly saying in a lot of videos that he was only doing the nu metal videos because they paid the bills. That’s totally fine. We all understood that he came from punk and hardcore scenes, and isn’t into nu metal but the audience wants it. But in this interview I got the impression that basically the whole channel was a grift. He really wrecked his credibility, and I hope it will affect his current Linkdin grift as well.
If you thought that he came off as authentic in his videos, you're the audience that was stupid enough to fall for it. His channel was a laughing stock for most people that actually listened to punk and metal.
the number one thing people want from creators, musicians, actors, and celebrities these days is authenticity. finn has just completely ruined all authenticity he had to his online persona, and as a person who watched him quite regularly, i'm disappointed that youtube was nothing to him except a way to make easy money talking about something he doesn't care about. i respected his opinion and thought he had a good view on things when it came to the rock/punk/metal scene, to find out it was all a lie is incredibly sad. in a way i feel used, i don't know if that's a bit over the top, but i'm just saying what's coming to my mind as i'm writing this. i hope finn reads through these comments, so he realises how many people supported him on youtube, and now all those people have just wasted years watching his videos, and paying money to things like his patreon and merch. shame on you finn, shame on you.
I mean a lot of his shit was just boiler plate superficial takes on music, and bands, and if you were a type of fan of a band or really into music, and the people behind the music then you kinda saw either that he was just being a dick, or he didn't really give a shit.and or didn't really know enough about it to have anything close to a real opinion on things or at least one that was worth remembering. I'm not saying that being super into music or whatever is a good or bad, but when you see someone just talking shit cause they don't respect details that you know about something and then say something is good or bad while ignoring those details, is why he got so much hate.
@@blaness13 I remember commenting on a video several years ago saying that the band Norma Jean definitely got a specific guitar sound from Zao, and he commented back and said that it was definitely this other band that I forget the name of now. He said he knew the guitarist from Norma Jean and I should ask him or something like that. What a load of b.s. I thought it was weird at the time. Now I know he’s just full of it.
It’s hard to believe someone would have 2 Hatebreed, and a morbid angel tattoo but “not care about music”. Seems like those comments were made with resentment for the hate comments rather than genuine indifference. It’s unfortunate that Finn feels that way. Sort of cheapens the quality of those videos imo
Feels like he was saying more hes just not interested in it NOW despite it being something that clearly was a big part of his life in the past. Certainly my relationship with music has changed as I've gotten older
@timothyprescott1340 he likes a lot of death metal, tho. But it is weird that he said he doesn't care about music when he has been in the music scene for years now
He's a marketing obsessed techbro. Of course he doesn't give a shit about music. He probably hates music, along with all art, because he'll never have the imagination required to actually make it. It's jealousy and narcissism. You know why he has two hatebreed tattos? Hatebreed's been around for like 30 years. He probably got those tattoos like 30 years ago. Any love he had for music or any other form of art for that matter has probably been dead for a really fucking long time honestly.
For a guy who thinks he is a great business man he was pretty damn unprofessional in this video. Can’t believe I ever wasted time watching his videos. Kudos to the interviewer for staying kind and cool the whole time.
Truly. But unfortunately I was duped. I suspect many others will be too. The tragedy is that his channel brought a lot of traffic to an underserved community.
Right I mean he’s obviously into the punk rock scene he can’t say he’s not interested in music. He’s probably just sick of getting shit on constantly lol
Beginning of the end was when his wife quit her job to start her dumpster fire of a UA-cam channel. Her persona clashed hard with his branding. Really, if your subscribers think you married an idiot, mutual loss of respect between Finn and viewers was obvious, so was the negative feedback loop that carries to present day.
@@mdavid7616 To be fair, Finn is a clearly a right-wing Libertarian himself, so his wife's Alt-Lite anti-SJW (or anti-woke, as they call it now) content isn't far from his views at all. Oh, and let's not forget that he groomed her when she was a teenager and he was in his 30s.
The whole rant with Finn talking about not being interested in Bluesky because it’s terminally online people and bots fellating how great the platform is and their following is literally the reason I’m not on LinkedIn anymore which is funny because that’s how Finn is supposedly making his money these days and good for him if that’s how he is. But you can’t tell me that LinkedIn isnt the most inauthentic and least genuine form of online presence and social networking I’ve ever seen in my life. He’s probably right about Bluesky too, I just don’t have one, but LinkedIn is an echo chamber too buddy
@@og666LinkedIn is general comes off as one huge corporate scam. I’m not even trying to come off as a screw corporations and “The Man” and all that but there’s a huge amount of entrepreneur bros on there giving “advice” and “coaching” and it’s just superficial all for the purpose of making a quick buck and that’s mainly on the ones selling the coaching advice and Finn’s UA-cam channel is more of a portfolio collection than a passion that Finn had based on what he’s saying here
Lol why did Finn even do this interview? Is he just rubbing it in his haters faces that he got the bag and dipped and conned all the smooth brains along the way? He didn't even seem interested in bragging about that though so I don't get it. Just weird behavior.
I was a big fan of the Punk Rock MBA for years. I looked forward to every upload mainly because as Finn points out in his other videos, it kind of does allow people to take a nostalgia trip and revisit a lot of the bands and music. I used to listen to when I was younger. I also learned a lot about them that really piqued my interest, and made me go “ oh wow, interesting.” I eventually saw Finn‘s video saying that he wasn’t really motivated to make the nostalgia videos anymore because it just wasn’t something that interested him and I respected that. He clearly knows, given the information he shares in this video, that there can be a trade-off between what people like to make videos on and what people want to see. I respected that he was going to make less of his usual content. All of that being said… I’m very disheartened by this interview. I still respect Finn and can understand the tough situation that he was in when it came to making content that he probably didn’t want to make, but to hear him say that music didn’t interest him at all is quite disheartening. I’m sure he would admit that he doesn’t appear to be the most enthusiastic when explaining things in his videos, (not hating), but he at least appeared to Have a desire, even if it was small to talk about the music that we grew up with AND music that was being created today. After watching this whole interview, I am glad that Finn has moved on and is currently attempting to do what he does care about, but the way in which he expresses his indifference towards music, despite having made commentary towards musical artists, much of which is quite critical, it’s I’ll just kind of disheartening for me. Regardless of this, I just wish him the best. I’m not hating on him. He’s made some good content, and I respect him a lot for doing that even when he didn’t want to. Just kind of a bummer unfortunately.
This is sad. I thought finn was a good voice for the rock culture. Turns out he was a grifter the whole time. Props to this interviewer for trying to keep it positive while talking to this doomer
I watched him and didn’t see him as a voice for the culture or even someone who wanted to be. I thought some videos were funny and entertaining and that’s it, and I guess that’s why I’m not let down.
Honestly, I figured he wasn’t posting this whole time due to his first child being born. I honestly think he’s full of crap in this video saying all these years the whole time he was putting on an act. He most likely quit due to a combination of things such as 1. Being burnt out (his content the past year was proof of this) 2. Criticism of his relationship with his wife 3. The mass amount of hate and disdain he received from other UA-camrs, Reddit, and pretty much every social media platform. I’m not going to say I hated the guy because I don’t personally know him, but I did hate how he constantly referred to people who listen to successful, mainstream music (you know, the music you play on xm JL) as ignorant, unintelligent trailer trash. That always pissed me off.
Most accurate comment here. It's strange that other comments with lots of likes are taking what he said at face value and in black and white terms... music is obviously something he liked a lot when he was younger, but he's obviously burnt out on it now. It's bizarre people seem to think him being onto music EVER was just an act
@@Joshcoshbagosh I have all of Finn's videos as evidence. He talks a lot about *bands*, and their impact on culture and fashion. But the music, not so much. Compare that to actual music-tubers like The Metal Trenches or crustbag. They go in-depth about individuals albums and songs. They talk about how the music makes them feel, and the meaning it has had for them at different points in their lives Finn was never anything like that. That's why I stopped watching him years ago
Finn McKenty and everyone like him...if anything aren't just uninterested in punk...they despise it, they detest everything about it. That is why he made the content he made "reading off a wikipedia page" he didn't respect it, he hated it, and thought it didn't deserve to be represented by a real person.
@@CaH6633 That's just not true. He clearly loved punk but grew out of love with it. The photos for him growing up before the job show it. Not to mention the fliers on his wall from past shows he was at. He is just bitter about UA-cam and acting like a child. He really needs to come back down to earth and stop acting like he's too cool to enjoy the things he likes.
Everyone surprised at Finn’s reaction has clearly never watched a video of his because he has said this for years. He did the shit his audience wanted.
Man I'm gonna miss his second channel. It was nice seeing him be silly and have fun on his streams. It seems nobody has really been watching his stuff. He's talked about his goals and wants for a while now, on top of his complaints. He's definitely into music, just not the kind people want him to talk about
His lack of passion for the subjects he made content about has been apparent for at least the last 2 years, and clearly the audience could tell because his average video view count has reflected as much. The interview had its moments but his general vibe is “I got burnt out getting pushback for my honest takes so now I don’t want to do it anymore, plus I never cared anyway.” Like when you get dumped in HS and just say “well I didn’t wanna be with you anyways, I was gonna break up with you too but you beat me to it.” Then cry on your walk back home.
He peaked 2-3 years ago and seems bitter that his channel/formula didn’t break through. He seems to hate the process/formula he feels boxed into creating to have successful videos, such as obnoxious titles and thumbnails. He made his money and is calling it a day.
He had been saying for years that he was burned out by having to talk about shitty insignificant band drama every day (which he reiterates in this interview). He doesn't have no interest in music, like he said during the interview, he has no interest in talking about music in the only way anybody will let him (talking about shitty insignificant band drama). In the videos where he talked about bands or artists that weren't 20 year old nu metal bands, you could see that he was actually excited to talk
There's no way a dude with 2 hatebreed tattoos who ran a zine distro was never into music. He's clearly lying to himself to justify his own choices and it's coming off as the most unflattering look he could have possibly given himself.
I feel like what probably happened is he was genuinely interested in it when he started. Then once he started making money off of it it also became a job. Over time the growing hate towards him combined with him having to make what the people wanted, not what he wanted, in order to get a paycheck, killed any remaining enjoyment he got from it, resulting in him not caring about the content and only being in it for the money. With so many people rooting for his downfall combined with being burnt out, it doesn't surprise me that he took an out when he had the chance and left in a jaded, bitter state, wanting nothing to do with the music content creation scene anymore. He's been open about his mental health struggles in the past so it wouldn't surprise me if all this pushed him into a place where he's become spiteful and standoffish as a way to keep the cause of the problems at bay so he can move on.
Finn personally holding the opinion that artists are in their right to charge crazy amounts for tickets is fine, but him being so bewildered at people who disagree and not even understanding where they're coming from or acting like they're hopeless is insane. Just because you have an extremely transactional view of human beings and art doesn't mean everyone else does, and that difference in philosophy is to account for the majority of the hate he gets in alternative spaces imo. which he then just shrugs off as people being elitists and nerds and never looking within
@@loganbrittain784 I understand why people get upset if prices are high but I agree with him that artists are going to charge the most the market will bear. They no longer can sell albums and make money so tickets and merch are their main source of revenue. The dirty secret is also that ticket master is just meant to absorb all the hate and disdain so the artists can maximize the money and look like the good guy. The artists are 100% in on it and wanting to make as much as they can.
@ I guess my position is that it just depends. I get that for most artists in the lower and mid strata of the industry have to charge as much as possible to get by, but Finn starts to lose me when it comes to a band like mcr. Unless I’m mistaken, they do not need to overcharge their fans to make a living, because they’re living’s been made. Yes, they are allowed to charge as much the market allows, but it’s not a law of nature that they will, it’s a choice. And when they make the choice to out price their lower income fans so they can make an additional profit, ppl see that as a reflection of low character, which is completely reasonable. But I guess it’s just insanity to Finn lmao
I refuse to believe that he didn't ever care about music at all. I think the answer to that question was an overcorrection in hyperbolic. Even if he was getting cynical about the content he was making as he's expressed in the past about just going through the motions and not having the passion, I still think he likes music someplace, somewhere. I see a lot of salty people saying they wish they never watched it but I love the videos and it made me passionate about music again like I haven't been since college so I am grateful to him and his channel for that
HAHAHAHA He always said SOAD sucked. Some of this is obviously bravado. He obviously cared about BM, Hardcore and Punk in the early videos and that wasn't just looking at Wiki.
Finn is clearly burnt out from his work. I empathise a lot with Finn and have also seen the things I love doing just become monotonous labor I have to do to survive. Countless people in the music industry feel like this, Finn is just the only one keeping it real. I can see that Finn is in a rut and I wish him well. The comments I think are clearly everything wrong with the music community online and you guys freak out the moment someone isn’t meatriding your favorite artists.
I think the thing is, you can tell by his older videos that he did care a lot. Him saying he never cared is crazy because when you watch his old videos you can tell he was way more passionate about the stuff he was talking about back then, but with his new videos its obvious that he doesn't care much anymore.
@@skbmusic-n8f he really wanted to put a spotlight on that stuff. But the fact it was never entirely clear what his tastes were, and he was even less clear why his fan base would give something like that a chance. But its clearer now that Finn has stronger connection with "music culture" rather than actual music itself, which makes sense given his field in graphic design and advertising (which targets lifestyles), but makes less sense trying to communicate to his UA-cam audience (which attracts a narrower, more specific audience). I think he realized they're two very different beasts.
@@darrenthetuber743 Honestly as someone that likes punk and trap and emo rap I liked his takes on it. His audience is just a bunch of weirdo angry boomers though with no taste. They were too old to appreciate the new set of musicians trying to explore new territory with genre exploration.
This is an interesting video... It's very clear he is completely burnt out on UA-cam, music and just the comment sections and people he was interacting with. Considering he was active in the extreme music scenes back in the day, wrote for metal websites and was even aware of bands like bring me the horizon, I think he did like that type of music at one point and he was being a bit flippant. what he likely meant isn't that he never cared about music but rather he doesn't care at all now and wants to do something else. His job of being a content creator has sucked all his passion and interest in music to the point he wants nothing to do with it. He is frustrated that people only care about nu metal and 20 year old music and that's his only content that was getting any traction. Kind of sad to see him go out like this.
He obviously cares about music. Hes just getting over everything right now. He just feels resentful he was "forced" to make videos about bands he doesnt care about, but that was in the later stages. His first videos are very passionate.
As a fan of many of his videos I call bullshit. If he really didn't care about any of the videos he ever made or music in general, why did he go out of his way to criticize so many artists and give his "hot takes" on who sucks? I think occam's razor here is that he just didn't know how to deal with hate
Yeah he's obviously coping. It's like how someone loses at a game of checkers or basketball or something and is like "WHATEVER, THIS GAME IS STUPID ANYWAY!!"
@@hamupinhere Oh I think he does care about punk rock and hardcore and metal...because he hates it. These are genres that aren't successful anymore in the mainstream and because Finn is a soulless business suit, he thinks that makes them stupid and he hates them.

A few weeks ago I remember thinking, "where's the new PRMBA video? He hasn't done anything in a few weeks." I assumed he got a new job/profession that was taking the majority of his time, and he was putting UA-cam on the back burner (which was always his secondary, as I've perceived). Suppose I am partially right. Glad to see/hear that he's doing something new that he loves, but a bit surprised that he "hates" music as much as he states. I knew he wasn't always into the bands he discussed (SoaD, Deftones, etc), but to hear that he hated doing those videos really surprises me. He mentioned in several of his videos, all the concerts he went to in his youth, and he was always so prompt in his musical knowledge during his Twitch streams. How does one go about procuring such a vast plethora of information into something they hate? I suppose his response of "for money," is a good answer, but it just doesn't answer the years and years of music knowledge he acquired, even before he started the UA-cam channels. Maybe he fell out of it over time, but it kind of bums me out that he didn't enjoy making the videos that I enjoyed over the years. They weren't something I depended on, but they were fun to watch in the morning with a cup of coffee. Jesea Lee, you're new to me, but it seems that you may have been influenced by the PRMBA and maybe even looked up Finn. What do you think or feel about hearing that he disliked making all those videos over the years? Or anyone for that matter.
Alright folks. I’m a machinist. I make my living making parts out of metal. It isn’t my favorite thing to do. I’ve done it since I was I was 18 so I’ve gotten very good at it. I would rather do something else, but there’s nothing I can do that’s gonna pay more money than I get paid being a machinist. Does that make me a poser machinist???
I stopped following him years ago after I called him out clearly lying about something cause his friend joined the band. Just cause they are your friend doesn't mean you lie and spread misinformation. Tried to turn it on me saying I was a some internet troll with no life. I was just trying to correct the lie he told.
It was obvious if you knew the name origins. He comes from the punk/hxc scene and has an interest in business and wanted to share that with others who come from similar backgrounds hence the PRMBA name. Well, those people didnt care so he gave them whay he wanted, he said it all the time he doesnt like those bands and when he does what he wants it flops. Now they have shocked pickachu faces over it.
I believe he likes what he did but when u do your hobby and turn it in to work it can get old because now it's work not just a hobby any more. It happens alot
He talked about stuff that got views like every popular UA-camr does. He is in his 40s with a family so he has to make money some how and people didn't watch the hxc/punk related videos so he pivoted to stuff people watched. He was even honest about it a few months back that he wasn't passionate about the videos he was making. People in the DIY hardcore scene literally hate nothing more than successful people.
@brysontrotman5865 at a certain point in time he did it because he liked doing it just like he's doing LinkedIn now because it brings him in an income he sounds like one of those type of dudes that jumps on the trend of what is hot and get as much money as he can and then when that product he is doing doesn't work anymore he goes to the next platform because yes there's a lot of UA-cam channels that talk about what he talks about but they barely get any views anymore
Finn quit UA-cam? I didn't even notice. I stopped watching his content because I got tired of him always lecturing the audience for not liking newer bands/genres.
Nah finns absolutely just bitter with the comments and yt in general. Unless hes a sociopath, he definitely likes the music hes claiming to hate. I think hes on the defensive in his mind post-youtube, and doesnt really know who he is rn probably so hes, at least apparently, clinging to his mote hardcore side. Idk, this is disappointing
I think he enjoys villain status and is using this opportunity to secure a few more months of free rent in the heads of his haters. He knows this will be talked about in exactly the way the comments are showing. Call it a final middle finger to haters.
I got lost when he said he doesn’t have interest in music. He basically forced himself today research on bands that he liked and didn’t like, for profit?
@@drummerconz682 yeah, it seems he never cared about his audience at all. no goodbye, nothing... until this. It seems like he's just doing this to fuel the haters even more.
There isn't, he's a soulless marrketing obsessed tech bro who hates art and only ever talked about it for profit. End of story. Next time a guy comes out and tries this hopefully we'll all try to remember the red flags as frankly, there were MANY from the clickbait video titles, to the celebration of the worst actors in the scene like Ronnie Radke(someone Finn is frankly remarkably similar to in that they're both attention hawk lolcows who do not give a shit about music). Frankly I saw this coming a long time ago and the rest of the audience should have.
This is so sad man. Man is all about “PR and Product” but this is the antithesis of how to handle retiring from media. He seems so jaded. What a shitty person
People mad at him like they’ve never worked a good paying job they were good at but hated really nails the perspective of how disconnected people are from the workings of real life
Super unpopular opinion here, but a job is a job. Finn is articulate, entertaining, and is an overall great presenter. I really enjoyed his videos, whether he was personally invested in them or not. Do you think people who work at the drug store are passionate about filling prescriptions or do all restaurant cooks love the culinary arts? Ultimately, Finn made UA-cam content to earn a livelihood and now he wants to move on. For some reason, he's communicating this quite aggressively, but overall, it's a totally fair move IMO.
I just don’t buy that explanation. Nobody with his knowledge base just dips in for cash only. I think it’s more relevant that he 1. Got bored of PRMBA content being Wikipedia readings 2. Anything he alleged performed well on PRMBA was 20+ year old music(which makes sense if you look at rock festival headliners lol) 3. Was skimming between wanting to make normie content with a base that would not watch said content 4. Is an assumable libertarian living in a liberal to leftist space I think at this point he’s just frustrated with the alt music community and is deflecting, but that’s all just assumptions
I think he hated the fact he didn’t garner an organic long term audience that would take a chance on his content and his formula of click bait titles, obnoxious video thumbnails and creating videos on content he didn’t care about made his job working on his channel soulless and not rewarding.
@ I mean you’d be wrong cause his audience and numbers were very solid. Clickbait titles and obnoxious thumbnails are common place in every niche on UA-cam. It’s easier to just boil down to what his audience wanted as his channel progress he wasn’t interested in
@ no you’re wrong. His videos the last 3-6 months averaged 35-60K views. If you filter on his top videos his channel peaked 2-3 years ago getting closer to 0.5M views. All creators want to grow their channels, to see your channel getting 1/10th the views it did a few years it’s 100% an ego check and you can tell in the video that he’s very bitter and believed he should’ve seen more success on UA-cam.
@ there’s peaks, plateaus, and saturation. 2-3 years ago was a peak; a year or so was probably his plateau. The last year has been his saturation point of their not being anywhere else to turn with that content based on what his audience liked. I’m not in disagreement that he’s got a real bad look rn the way he’s talking about the experience; but it’s a lil silly to say that didn’t have a strong core audience. He wants to make normie content or at least not millennial rock content, and his audience won’t watch that
@ UA-cam is a growing space, he saw his audience dip dramatically, and 25K viewed videos isn’t the “core” audience you think it is. He probably wanted to build a channel with millions of followers and millions of views per video and once he peaked and regressed he decided to call it a day.
In like the 80s, 90s, 00s your kinda forced to watch the channel puts on, listen to the music that was on the radio, or hear the news that is put out by someone else. Now and especially since 2020 you don't have to be forced to listen, watch, or read what someone else puts out. You can find what you want.
I love this 🤣 people were always on Finn's jock for literal opinion videos, and now he got the bag and doesnt have to put up with it anymore. People meet ryde shameless succ ups like Rock Feed, Finn wasnt having any of it. The hate for Finn was so forced.
honestly fiin had the best opinions about the scenes and shit,,,who cares if he talked about bands he didnt like lmao, he clearly likes alot of bands and shit its just he doesnt gaf about bands that everyone wants him to talk about when he doesnt care about them.
I enjoyed some of the Punk Rock MBA content. In a lot of videos, Finn would comment on which bands he was a fan of. So clearly he likes some music. But I get the impression he didn't love all of the bands he covered, which is believable considering a lot of them are just ok in my opinion. Seems like a thoughtful nice guy. Would be interested in checking out his next channel (if he makes one) if the content is of interest to me. The teacher that teaches chemistry doesn't necessarily love science. The math teacher doesn't necessarily do times tables in their spare time. So it's believable to me that Prof. McKenty is a bit tired of music.
Weird this dude finally quit /s. I'm not surprised, he's basically pissed off everyone in the music space. MBAs and Punk are incongruous and it's laughable to deny they aren't. Then there is his pretentiousness, he'll shit all over your opinion while being ignorant about the scene. Honestly, he's the Bill Maher of music opinions.
Going to miss his content, nobody kept metalheads checked as he did 😄 It's good to see the haters getting angry at him for his opinion for one last time, in UA-cam, wish him all the best with whatever he's doing from now on.
This interview is funny because you can see the interviewer realize how lame Finn is in real time.
We've all had that moment where we realize Finn McKenty is about as cool as that weird uncle you have who's going through a midlife crisis
@@CaH6633 come on. That weird uncle probably had some cred

Makes me feel like i wasted my time being invested in his content ☠️
That aside, it was a great interview that was very enlightening as a viewer
He admitted it the entire time on social media and twitch.
yeah, he comes across a quite bitter in this interview. a shame.
Luckily, there are other channels that talk about music and that weird goth looking guy actually has a genuine interest in what he does lol
Christ, I honestly wish I could retract the views I've given him over the years. What a sad existence.
If he's worried about his "brand recognition", this interview was the worst thing he could have done.
lol i know he just keeps digging himself deeper. the contradictions are glaring and obvious. i think he is more or less pouting about the fact that people realized he didn't have that much to offer after all and rather than adjust and push himself as a creator, he just wants to go on a PR tour whining about it while also somehow trying to get the audience to believe he never actually cared the content he created in the first place. what a dweeb
He is clearly done with UA-cam, having made enough industry contacts. And if he ever decides to return, the approach of "I have no principles, I’ll just pander to whoever will watch" seems to work for quite a few people these days.
He took himself too seriously, that’s where things went wrong I guess
There's plenty of empty shells of people who will love what he did because he made money.

Next he’s gonna tell us he’s not actually a fan of raid: shadow legends.

I think he just cemented the death of any of his popularity. No body likes someone who’s inauthentic and the fact he just came straight out and said it is wild lol
I respect that.

Well i kinda took it he was superficial from the jump. His views and opinions were hints revealing a bit of his character.
He's been saying in videos for over a year. And he got hundreds of thousands of views and sponsors. He got the bag, I respect it
funny thing is it could even cost him business from people on LinkedIn.
Hate to break it to you, most UA-camrs are in it for the money, or atleast trying to make money from it to replace a day job.

He's like the Bill Maher of alternative music. Sellout and inauthentic.
I've always said this about him and he got salty and used defensive sarcasm anytime I mentioned it.
He has always openly admitted that his research was Wikipedia and that he mostly just made low effort content. Hardly the way someone wanting to appear ‘smarter than’ anyone would act.
Yet matters wrose he mentioned in one of his videos he said metal fans are know it alls but he's doing the exact same thing of what he's accussing them of doing which makes him a hypocrite at the end of the day.
finn comes off as super jaded in this video. he seemed pretty authentic on his channel back in the day and even said he didnt want to come off as a dick, but man hes just coming off as bitter in this

the number one thing people want from creators, musicians, actors, and celebrities these days is authenticity. finn has just completely ruined all authenticity he had to his online persona, and as a person who watched him quite regularly, i'm disappointed that youtube was nothing to him except a way to make easy money talking about something he doesn't care about. i respected his opinion and thought he had a good view on things when it came to the rock/punk/metal scene, to find out it was all a lie is incredibly sad. in a way i feel used, i don't know if that's a bit over the top, but i'm just saying what's coming to my mind as i'm writing this. i hope finn reads through these comments, so he realises how many people supported him on youtube, and now all those people have just wasted years watching his videos, and paying money to things like his patreon and merch. shame on you finn, shame on you.
I thought he was joking at first. But he’s not.

Lol why did Finn even do this interview? Is he just rubbing it in his haters faces that he got the bag and dipped and conned all the smooth brains along the way? He didn't even seem interested in bragging about that though so I don't get it. Just weird behavior.
I do recall him saying that he's on the spectrum, maybe that's why.
In Finn's defense, don't we all do jobs we don't really care about to some degree?
I was a big fan of the Punk Rock MBA for years. I looked forward to every upload mainly because as Finn points out in his other videos, it kind of does allow people to take a nostalgia trip and revisit a lot of the bands and music. I used to listen to when I was younger. I also learned a lot about them that really piqued my interest, and made me go “ oh wow, interesting.”
I eventually saw Finn‘s video saying that he wasn’t really motivated to make the nostalgia videos anymore because it just wasn’t something that interested him and I respected that.
There were many moments during this interview where you could tell the interviewer was put off by what Finn says...
Lol he doesn't even have anything to do with punk
I mean... he platformed Blaire White. That should have raised some major red flags.
I watched him and didn’t see him as a voice for the culture or even someone who wanted to be. I thought some videos were funny and entertaining and that’s it, and I guess that’s why I’m not let down.
How could people not figure this out before? He was always clickbait nonsense.
That always pissed me off.
i think you are totally correct.
Regarding 3.: He mostly did the opposite though, and that really put me off (among many other things).
The fact that he was platforming people like Blaire White was the last straw for me.
Most accurate comment here. It's strange that other comments with lots of likes are taking what he said at face value and in black and white terms... music is obviously something he liked a lot when he was younger, but he's obviously burnt out on it now. Yup yup, he openly talked about it all the time on his Twitch streams.

This sounds like burnout to me
He peaked 2-3 years ago and seems bitter that his channel/formula didn’t break through.

@Purplepentapus_ that makes a lot of sense.
There's no way a dude with 2 hatebreed tattoos who ran a zine distro was never into music. He's clearly lying to himself to justify his own choices and it's coming off as the most unflattering look he could have possibly given himself.
It is a good distraction from him being a groomer.
Finn looks depressed and bitter. He's a Linked in boy now, a high achiever.

@@skbmusic-n8f he really wanted to put a spotlight on that stuff.
That's my take as well.

These are genres that aren't successful anymore in the mainstream and because Finn is a soulless business suit, he thinks that makes them stupid and he hates them.
everyone is hating on finn but I'm really sad he stopped making content, always watched him and yes, when he talked about idk nu metal he did it for the money, but previous to that his content was good. I hope he comes back soon tbf
I watched Finn's channels for years but this is really awkward and cold
Finn stopped creating because he lost his ability to create interesting videos, he said it himself with the yearly 'channel update'' videos.
Dude always equated popularity with musical quality and people are surprised he turned out to be a soulless hack lmao
He had a lot of terrible takes on things
Your opinion, create a YT and lets see you catch shit 😂
lol no he didn’t.
@@EricDM88 That time he said All The Small Things was the best song on Enema.
@@gabrielmeza-lu4fhthat’s the majority’s opinion and he even admitted that he was doing it for the money, and you know what sells? Clickbait, so yea he had edgy shitty take because of that.
Precisely. Should not be difficult to understand
I just watched a video about refused where Finn said "I've been listening to punk rock for 30 years"
I was always a fan of Finn hes been a comfort UA-camr for me for a long time. I do agree lately its been obvious hes just been doing it for money and whatever but i feel like hes been pretty straight up about that for awhile. I dont really know all the reasons people dislike him now and im not discounting that but im gonna miss him for sure. I do really feel like i connected with his content for a good while and found a lot of music and even whole genres i dont think i wouldve found before
He seems like a very bitter person in this interview. I'm glad he's quit cause it's obvious he never cared about the music
The writing on the wall was there the whole time
His live streams were insufferable to listen to. If anyone said anything he didn’t agree with he would just go on a tirade.
No
Makes sense now why he slobbered over Ronnie Radke so much, just wanted to grift his way into that shit-head rockstar money
Real... The signs were all there.
Finn is like “I got my check and I was GONE!” 😆
His takes and comments just progressively kept getting worse as the interview went on 💀
Finn has the worst music opinions, UA-cam is better without him.
You know you can like, not watch his content

I stopped following him years ago after I called him out clearly lying about something cause his friend joined the band. Just cause they are your friend doesn't mean you lie and spread misinformation. Tried to turn it on me saying I was a some internet troll with no life. I was just trying to correct the lie he told.
Can you kindly provide context? Who is this friend and what was Finn lying about?
What band was it?
"I have no interest in music at all"
It was obvious if you knew the name origins.
He does not come from punk
I stopped watching his content because I got tired of him always lecturing the audience for not liking newer bands/genres.
because his analysis was shallow and uninteresting as hell
Nah finns absolutely just bitter with the comments and yt in general. Unless hes a sociopath, he definitely likes the music hes claiming to hate. I think hes on the defensive in his mind post-youtube, and doesnt really know who he is rn probably so hes, at least apparently, clinging to his mote hardcore side. Idk, this is disappointing
Maybe just trying to burn the bridge by something damning?
I agree it'd be hard to believe he never liked music.
I think he enjoys villain status and is using this opportunity to secure a few more months of free rent in the heads of his haters. He knows this will be talked about in exactly the way the comments are showing. Call it a final middle finger to haters.
bruh has post partum
Seems like he's hanging by a thread tbh
I got lost when he said he doesn’t have interest in music. He basically forced himself today research on bands that he liked and didn’t like, for profit?
Nah that’s bs. Finn at least should do a goodbye video for his audience. To just randomly leave is wild. There has to be more to this story
Agreed. A proper goodbye video would of made way more sense than this interview if he actually cared about his audience.
Sold his soul to the algorithm and eventually paid the price.
Hope he doesn’t run back to UA-cam if he runs out of money
I never liked this guy, didn't even notice he was gone. But this took my disliking to another level 😅
People mad at him like they’ve never worked a good paying job they were good at but hated really nails the perspective of how disconnected people are from the workings of real life
"Why did you start your channel"
"To inflate my ego"
I think it’s more relevant that he
1. Got bored of PRMBA content being Wikipedia readings
2. Anything he alleged performed well on PRMBA was 20+ year old music(which makes sense if you look at rock festival headliners lol)
3. Was skimming between wanting to make normie content with a base that would not watch said content
4. Is an assumable libertarian living in a liberal to leftist space
I think at this point he’s just frustrated with the alt music community and is deflecting, but that’s all just assumptions
I always knew he didn't know shit about music, I could never sit through a full video of his

honestly fiin had the best opinions about the scenes and shit,,,who cares if he talked about bands he didnt like lmao, he clearly likes alot of bands and shit its just he doesnt gaf about bands that everyone wants him to talk about when he doesnt care about them.
I'm sorry but I respect the hustle. Virtually everybody does a job just for the money. Everyone is just performing for a check.
I didn't even know that. I actually liked the guy, despite disagreeing with him on many occasions. I found him funny and somewhat relatable.
I used to like his videos but they got super repetitive. I haven't watched in several months and hadn't even realized he was gone
FINN was abusive when called out for his minuscule knowledge of the punk scene.
I love this podcast and Jesea and Finn
Everyone’s mad but I didn’t hear Finn speak a lie on this podcast tbh.
Going to miss his content, nobody kept metalheads checked as he did 😄 It's good to see the haters getting angry at him for his opinion for one last time, in UA-cam, wish him all the best with whatever he's doing from now on.
