    Funny you should mention abt sugar coating stuff lol my old pharmacist was Korean and one day I was talking to her about how my shirt fits me tight around the arms because I've gained a little bit of weight and normally a person would be like "oh but you look fine" no she looked at me and said "yeah, you need to loose some weight." I started laughing lol because I already knew a lot of Korean people tend to give it to you straight.

    Omg I have this funny story to share with you guys😂
    Anyway it really bothers me when strangers talk to me and it happens sooo damn often. So one day I was waiting for the bus heading to school and this weird guy started talking to me about his whole life (😂) I haven't said one word and he kept going and going. And while he kept going about how his wife kicked him out of the house I gave him this terrified look and I started breathing faster and he realized my actions and was like r u ok? And I said "you can see me?? How is this possible, I thought I was-..." while looking so terrified 😂😂 this guy immediately started to get so uncomfortable and almost scared and slowly started walking away. His face was looking like "damn I just spent nearly 10 minutes talking to a ghost" 😂😂 I spent that whole day laughing. LOL I should be an actress or maybe that guy was just gullible. Anyway if you made it this far thanks for reading 😘

      If your in Korea as an English teacher. Then you have to communicate with your co-wokers right? That's how it starts. Also, at work Korean bosses create activities or have dinners (called hwaeshik) and your co-workers get a chance to know you through that...then they introduce you to their friends. If you come to Korea to study in a university then you will make Korean friends there the same way. Ect..ect. Through common groups and then you meet people outside of those circles through the people in those circles. And unlike us they date through this method too. No talking to strangers. Although some might it's really not the norm in Korea.

    Korea sounds like my kind of country. You don't sugar coat things, that's great. I think instead of trying not to "hurt" someone's feelings you should just be up front so they're not out here looking a hot mess, and then come back later to you like "i thought you said 'it looked fine'' ya know? another thing I like is the "just do it" kind of attitude, like you just go and if it's wrong they'll correct you. That's kind of how I live life anyway, if there's no clear and direct rules/laws etc I just treat it like a suggestion and or do my thing until I am stopped. :D Bori so cute ^^

    • @jahmeergordy205
      @jahmeergordy205 7 років тому

      Rai Shauna Martin if you don't want random ppl walking up and trying to touch your hair I say don't go, not to mention my sister (who lives there) has me send her clothes cause there clothes don't fit a lot of foreigners (since there so tiny). If you don't mind that, your good.

    • @RaiShaunaMartin97
      @RaiShaunaMartin97 7 років тому +4

      Maybe Its The Thug In Me Megan has gone through that struggle (not having clothes fit, she did a video about it). I believe I can find clothes that will fit me, I'm not really big, I just have a big bust. Plus, there are so many online stores that have international shipping etc that I can use if I really have that much of a hard time. ^^ I don't think I'll encounter that too often and if I do, I'll quickly learn the saying of "Don't touch me, please" or something along those lines. Thank you for your concern, have a good day.

      I love how you are a "strong slim" rather than a "no food slim"! But from what I have seen in the Kpop world, it seems like the "no food slim" is THE beauty standard over there... do you ever get negative feedback? I mean, just because you are on Korean Tv and stuff. Do Koreans/production people ever comment on it? (since you said they are usually straight forward with things like that)

      Autumn Johnson maybe she's still transitioning so some hair might be scab hair. She said it was recent :) I have 4a 4c 3c 3b 2a & 1 mix of strands. Overall looks between 4a and 3c.

    • @madixxoo
      @madixxoo 6 років тому

      i literally never came back to read these replies lmao but at the time yeah i had literally just started transitioning and i had really REALLY bad heat damage in spots and was still trying to texturize it to make my hair match but eventually just chopped it off and yeah my hair is definitely 4b/4c and i’m completely comfortable and fine with that now.

    I feel like that I fit in better in Korean culture since I have social anxiety I don't talk to strangers or really hug anyone that isn't my family (and I only really hug them since they hugged me first) since I feel like it is an invasion of privacy because that is what I feel but people think I am rude because of it or I don't like them

    I always find it weird when I hear Americans talking about jay-walking because since I live in London you just cross when you cross and when Megan was talking about how a whole crowd of people would occasionally cross in a specific part of the road reminded me of central London xD you'll get a whole lot of people just crossing the street when it's clear because who has time to walk alllllll the way to the light when you could just cross right there and then

I am blunt myself,if I find something that I dislike,I will say it,if the person is wrong,I will say it,if they look good or bad ,I will say it. But it's me,others may find sugar coating better than being straight forward.

    I live in India and I'm taking Korean classes. So what happened was, after my Korean class, me and my classmates went to a convenience store. We are used to answering in Korean in class. So when the shopkeeper asked my friend if she had any cash, she replied 안니요. Same thing happened with me. I stepped on someone's foot and automatically replied with 미안해요. Nobody speaks korean in India. People look at us like we are a bunch of weirdos speaking in Parseltongue.

      I live in NYC and the only places that have crossing guards are schools. Crossing guards will be at the street in front of or the streets around the school. They guide the students to the school building and tell the vehicles when to stop or go, even though there are street lights. This is most likely done in order to prevent an accident from happening.

    Sugar Coating is the way of life in Korea bruh. In my experience, Korean people are blunt about things that aren't important. But when it comes to important things like work schedules/performance or offenses they sugarcoat like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. If I'm doing something wrong (work-wise, in language use, etc.) or offensive (culturally)- PLEASE TELL ME and stop trying to be nice! That's so annoying! Don't tell me I look like I gained weight - I don't need to know that from you, cause frankly it's none of your business. But if I've offended you somehow, please do tell me that. I need to know!

      when she said "you're at a 10 and I need you at a -2"? It's an expression in America to describe your energy level (or whatever you're talking about ) on a scale of volume. a 10 is being a lot of "something" and the lesser number is essentially asking for that "something" to be less. Example,"This person curiosity is at 10. I'm going to need her/him at 2."

    • @poisonivy794
      @poisonivy794 7 років тому +6

    • @creativebelly4097
      @creativebelly4097 7 років тому +9

      That's not how she was using it.
      Think of it like adjusting the volume to something. Her flirting is coming off strong (10) and she needs to stop (and that's emphasized by the -2). That's what she's saying her friends were saying.

    Hi friends! I'm trying to learn Korean and I have a quick question :) So in Korean there are things called particles that look like this: 는. My question is, when people read out loud do they say these particles or do they skip them? Like when people speak Korean do they use particles or are particles only used when writing in Korean? I hope that makes sense! I've been trying to find this answer for a long time now, but I've never found a straight forward answer. Thank you!

    • @idavaabenladefoged7290

      I don't mean to confuse you if this ends up doing so, but I've also heard and seen cases where the particles are combined with the nouns to make the pronunciation shorter. For example, 나는 (informal I) would be shortened to 난 and 나의 to 내. That might also be why you don't hear the particles separately.
