I’m not allowed by my therapist (and pretty sure insurance) to own a live blade due to mental health reasons so the fact that trainers exist (especially ones like the squiddy which aren’t even metal) is so helpful
@@grasstastic9922 it was extremely difficult to convince my dad to let me get a squiddy, but once I told him it’s TSA safe and made of plastic, he was more convinced. You can’t get that with a live blade
The funniest is when guys pressure others to break the law and buy a live blade from Europe/Canada/etc. It's one thing to offer suggestions on how to work around the regulations, but some people will straight up make fun of you and act all superior if you say you can't get one legally.
Will I agree 100% but keep in mind no matter what the subject or community or area there are always people that their soul goal is to go out of their way to try to pass on everyone's cornflakes
none of it matters, extremism creates toxicity and a divide in a community, there needs to be a middle ground for everything, understanding that nothing is entirely black or white with everything creates an infinitely better community, clones arnt entirely bad or good, and same can be said for the real deal, flipping only trainers isnt entirely a bad thing or a good thing, same for live blades, every company has their ups and downs, every company has great things about them and awful flaws about them, pros and cons, nothing is one or the other, nothing is only good or bad, everything is in the middle and deviating slightly, everything is a grey area. understanding that will lead to a better community with more rational thought. a good step towards this would be open conversations for all controversial topics, instead of arguments about everything under the sun.
i feel like youre saying what the silent majority is thinking. and i 100% agree with what youre saying, the few corners of toxicity in the community really reaaaally ruined the experience of this wonderful hobby. and im glad someone like you finally talks about it!
The hate against trainers has gotten crazy on the reddit recently, I can't imagine what it's like for people just starting to flip that use a trainer to constantly see people saying that they aren't real flippers or whatever.
All true. Unfortunately, I dont see it changing.I love balisongs and flipping but the racism, sexism and gate keeping causes me to stay on the outskirts of the community. I'm glad you exist in this space,Will. You are necessary as fuck.
So I’m new to the balisong world and flipping, always been more of a regular pocket knife guy. It’s like this in high end knifes also. People are toxic because they can sit and be a keyboard warrior with no real retaliation possible. Also be mad at the makers of clones. I agree with your stance on them. Another point is some clones for the price are so much cheaper than say a lower end authentic and can be better. It’s just common sense someone’s gonna buy the best they can for the money they can afford. But honestly the best way to help the community are people like you. You have a platform and you’re making a positive impact the more people like you that pop up kinda filters out the negative people. Enjoy your videos think I’ve watched them all in the last month or so. Keep it moving forward!
I’m so glad that you are apart of the balisong community, and make your videos with toxic out. Your videos are lighthearted and funny, and I think that you’re doing a great job! Toxic people will come and go, and there is always toxicity in a group that you have to ignore. Love your channel man, and keep up the great work!
In every culture and community there exists people who chose to be toxic. The best you can do to make a change is do your part by not being toxic and encourage others to support eachother. Keep being a positive influence. Trolls will be trolls, but the vast majority of people are good and supportive. Thanks for always fighting the good fight!
Honestly, I love flipping and I fully agree that the toxicity is getting unbearable. I try to and many people should just distance themselves from the bullshit that people put out. If you are a toxic human, notice it, fix it, acknowledge what you did and just figure it out.
The toxicity is one of the things that made me take a step back from flipping for a while and being involved in the community (among other reasons as well, but the toxicity was a large part of it) it gave me lots of anxiety and just generally made me not feel comfortable being part of a "community" and so I would just flip maybe once a week by myself, no youtube content, no discord, no nothing. Just a hobby by myself, which was nice i guess but this video helped me realise that it doesn't matter that there's toxicity because I can just ignore those people, and I felt like coming back to comment this almost a month later just because it was so impactful. Thank you for everything you do for the community will!
I just got into balisong in Nov. 2021 and discovered how toxic the community is with everything you have mentioned in this video. All it has done is made me flip to myself because I don't feel like aligning with any "side". I had the thought scrolling through instagram arguments like "This is some nerdy shit to be arguing about like it's politics they need to chill lol" and just kept flipping. You are so important to the community, Thank you for creating proper discussion in the community.
Will, in any interest with differing things, no matter the product or subject be it balisongs, video games, cards, comics, tools, woodworking, anything really where opinions can differ there exists toxicity. This is a side effect of the human condition. Humans generally will fight fervently for their opinion. Going as far as entrenching themselves into it even when confronted with fact that is counter to their opinion. Their desperation to protect their opinion or views can lead to the toxicity you speak of. The best thing to do when confronted with toxicity is exactly what you are doing in this video. Confront it, point it out, without aggressively attacking/defending against the toxic behavior (that would only lead to more). Alot of times people don't even realize they are being toxic, the only way they can learn is to bring it to their attention, teach them. Good video.
As a member of many communities in the past i must be one of happiest flippers in the world - i dont attent anything except your, ArtSea and Dylan Kowalski channels. I learned all i know (not much to say least, behind 8 ball is hardest one by far) on 2$ trainer i tuned myself watching your guides (almost zero play!), i use my 10-15$ live blades as utility i can also flip and best one in my collection are two versions of Nabalis G10. Yet having fun with my collection of cheap balis - which also taught me that if i really know how something work knife doesnt matter that much for making trick - makes me happy and for my sons i am great entertainment (they also learn how this type of knife work etc). And all this thanks to not doing risky behavior like "lets go for r/balisong"!
The community’s always been like this and always will be, I feel it’s just better to stop caring and do what you want. Just say ‘fuck drama’ and flip honestly
It really sucks I want to be part of the balisong community and own proper knives but I can’t even get a squiddy in Australia we’re I live so people should be grateful they have the option of clones or real knives
Great topic and agree I’ve been in the hobby for a few and noticed that the community is quite toxic but non of the less we can just like put it aside and do our own stuff
as a person living in australia, clones are essential in being able to access otherwise very difficult to access knives. On top of paying a sometimes hefty price for the knife, we then have to pay hundreds of dollars in shipping only for it to not be guaranteed to actually arrive. With clones being cheaper and have cheap shipping prices and similar levels of flipping, they are very important
There are a couple bad apples in the balisong community but as a whole it's a pretty great groupof hobbyists. At least not as toxic as I've seen in other communities. I personally think the balisong community is at a peak (with no end) of sorts, at this moment. The availability and variety of balisongs on the market right now is like no other time in this hobby's history. Remember just a few years back drops were far apart and the likelihood of snaging something like a bas or a rep were slim. So many great makers nowadays popping up left and right. Everyone new seems to get accepted into the community easily. It's really not that bad. Just gotta be nice and motivate each other and everyone will have fun!!
I agree with you 110% with that. And I got into flipping about two years ago just do what makes you happy. Have find the whole community very very toxic like a bunch of five year olds throwing their own poop on the wall and making it stick. No one’s perfect just do what makes you happy.
I respect everyone and whatever they flip. I really feel like we need to just not care what someone flips and just be happy someone likes the same thing we do, I see toxicity about people owning clones all day on instagram whenever someone is try to sell a clone, or maybe is new to the community and just got a clone cause that's all they can afford, a bunch of people are basically harassing them...and most of those people I can almost guarantee they have bought one once in their life, and I'm sure the new person would become discouraged to stay in the community from that experience and that's fucking sad. Just respect everyone and keep your opinions to yourself. I try to show love to everyone that I can, but unfortunately people are going to hate no matter what.
I totally agree. I've just started out and have left so many discord servers and have even considered quitting balisong flipping because of the toxicity. the only balisong related server that im in now is your server because its not toxic at all.
Every hobby that I have has a toxic community, and I have like 20 different hobbies. I think the solution is simple. Like Patrick Swayze said in the movie Roadhouse, “just be nice”….🤷♂️
Not to mention the constant hate against bearings. I’ve seen very few people from the bearing loving side of the equation hate on bushings but I’ve seen so many on the bushing side of things call bearings awful and it breaks my heart because we all love the same things and our preferences shouldn’t separate us
honestly my most toxic interactions are when people are claiming a knife is a clone when there is barely anything connecting the two and i think its ridiculously slanderous, i got called a "fucking empty headed twat" recently just because i disagreed and didn't think it looked enough like the knife he was pointing to, huh? c'mon guys, people are gonna have similar ideas, the karambit has been on pretty much the same platform since its inception(and were talking from 1300 till now which is like 700 years) and last time i checked there's not much complaint about it
that's exactly what I was thinking as well. it makes it incredibly hard to design a knife without getting shit on by a ton of people for "copying" or "cloning" their blade shape or concept though in the end it is still unique just reminiscent of another knife
Incredibly good video. I’m glad you made this channel because I enjoy seeing you get passionate over controversial topics and would love to see videos similar to this!
I carry for work every day an Izula. Incredible little work knife for box cutting, slicing plastic wrap for pallets, cutting plastic wraps on cases of meat, et. al. I love it. I have a Taylor/Seto that I bought in the late 70's or early 80's, (I really don't remember) Its going into a Remora mag pouch that I will be stuffing into my Chefwear pants back pocket and carrying tomorrow. For years back then I used it for the aforementioned purpose. I also have a Kershaw Lucha on order. I don't really care about flipping with all the tricks. I like to like to be using knives as tools as well as personal self defense. Whooping out a balisong to cut open bigass cardboard boxes is just Steve McQueen coolern' heck!
Yea i defo agree because ive seen this in your server and a ton of others im not kidding i got banned from one for mentioning a glo mod and was making jokes sayin it was fr better than a squiddy and people where pissed and i got banned... Like they dont know what a joke is and also they just hate Brandon over something that happened 4 YEARS ago and im sponsored by him so everyone is just saying i meat ride him for liking the Polaris or the Bionic OSi even Blade bais has some beef with me for this, its dumb. Like let me have my opinions and before you say the knife flips badly because the person who made it is horrible..
as a new flipper it's really discouraging to see people get hate or be pressured to break the law to own a live blade and the sentiment be 'well obviously you just don't care enough about the hobby to own/flip a live blade'. i think extreme opinions like this put people on the defensive, which reinforces an 'us' vs 'them' mentality that eventually creates a rift. same with clones, there are incredibly strong opinions against clones but i haven't seen any discussion about the problematic nature of drop releases. same with reviews (i think this is the first time that i've heard someone say that most knives from makers are actually really good, they just don't fit everyone). a lot of these issues are a lot more grey than opinions would have us believe and i genuinely don't understand why there is this 'superiority' on either side of these issues for a hobby that is literally about flipping and twirling an object.
@TheLastPrawn I’m a newbie and at first I thought Balisong is really cool and I should try it. But the toxicity of some people in the community just make me want to quit even before I start. As an artist who does digital art, I can’t risk getting my fingers cut, because (for me anyway) it hurts as hell when you have a cut on your finger and draw at the same time on your tablet, doesn’t matter which finger. And then I see people calling others “thin skinned babies” when they use trainers like ?!??! Why do people have to make others feel weak and discouraged when really it’s all about enjoying the art of flipping. I’m very new to Balisong, but I just know that I’ll never use a live blade, just because that’s how I like it and I don’t want to risk getting cuts, period, and I don’t understand why people can’t respect that. Watching Will’s video addressing these issues just made my day.
words have hurt me before but no physical damage was done to me.. I know u know that lol. I think it's good to get hurt sometimes in order to grow. hopefully you grow so strong that the old things that hurt you, aren't even noticed by you anymore. now you're a confident boss, who is giving positivity to anyone who needs it.
In the regular edc knife community it’s actually generally pretty welcoming and has been a good experience. But when I joined the balisong community it has been pretty rough tbh
Been flipping for a few months and followed a few subs on Reddit and was shocked at how some people have that “locals only” attitude. Some not all are very authoritarian it’s really a strange and angry little group. It’s a major turn off and has lead me more into the Filipino side of Bali’s and it’s roots. Great video
The reason that there is no middle ground is because of the way that media works, you think that clones are either bad or fine ish, then because you talk about stuff like that or watch videos, you get shown more stuff about that, and people just end up on one side or the other
Squid industries should be so embarrassed of the tsunamis price point when clone companies make the same exact thing for 100 and anyone who spends 600 extra money on “intellectual property” should remember that purchase before commenting on other people’s purchases because “intellectual property” has an expiry date maybe 10 years maybe 100 either way u spent an extra 600 on something that I got for 100 👍
I've met so many young flippers that have a small budget and really wish that the gray zone you brought up was more standard in the community rather than the pseudo gate-keeping that's been taking place. Not everyone has a literal grand to drop on a grail. Extremism was just a result of both groups wanting to have a valid standpoint and communities, creating the super clone supporters and the anti-cloners. The live and trainer argument is an extension of that. People just think their way of flipping is the only righteous way. Some people learn with trainers, well what would you know! If you can get a blade you genuinely enjoy, live or not, have a good learning experience with, all while being within your budget, then that's just more power to you. Keep on flipping & catching butterflies.
i find it sad that a community that has been very nice to each other (like during blade shows, which i think is mostly a nice thing, but can be bad if people do this toxic stuff) is just beating each other down. the community has a huge potential to be a great, non toxic community, yet they just throw it all out because they dont think before they do. and then it starts big arguments like the live blade and trainer fights. it's honestly just a let down knowing the bali community could've been great, but isn't. (sometimes it can be great, but this toxic stuff is still not good either way).
People in general are toxic. Almost any hobby, any field of entertainment, any field of labor/career is filled with people dumping their self hate onto others. Many try to dismiss it as “oh I’m just trolling. U mad?” But they self snitch in the process that their mental state is so down that they can only bring it up by bringing others down too
There's gonna be purists and gate keepers but honestly i just like flailing my piece of metal around and having fun, thats what its all about people, theres no wrong or right way to do it, just be kind and have fun
12:57 Thank you. Idk if you saw the posts by live blade trolls on the balisong subreddit, but I totally have not only seen this, but I agree with your stance on this. I have nothing against either live blade or trainer flippers, I just want people to not be like... y'know... mean?
@@RepEvox TL;DR:You're not *wrong,* I just wish people would be more decent people in general. P.S.-What do you flip? I'm a broke 15-year-old so I flip a stock lucha that I need to tune ALL the time and a Zipper. I also bought a Fiore trainer off a guy in Insta that is coming on Monday or Tuesday(It is a clone, but I specifically found not only that it is no longer in production, but that it is also really cool and ˢᵐᵃˡˡ. I'm not intentionally just dismissing them and saying they're trolls, they got asked and said of their own volition that they thought it was funny to see people get mad. Also, are bullies not of a similar mindset as trolls? Is it an unfair expectation to expect people to not be assholes? As far as I was aware, if someone is bullying you, the goal isn't to just ignore that, the goal is to get them to stop. I do agree with you though that people get WAYYYYYY too worked up on both sides. I don't get that upset over trainers vs. live blades personally(I flip exclusively trainers because my parents aren't cool with me flipping live blades in case I drop it and hurt their expenshive wewden flooring lol). What really bothers me more is just the toxicity of people in general. If they're not gonna stop, then that's entirely their prerogative, but I just wish that we could get along better over a hobby we both enjoy. "hur dur gatekeep harder" is a mocking comment someone made on one of the troll meme posts on r/balisong that I think illustrates my point fully. They don't care, and they're not trying to be supportive or kind. And to your point, I can see what you're saying about not playing the game. As a community, ignoring posts like that and letting the trolls and people with takes we don't agree with do their own thing is an acceptable approach, although that could conceivably result in more toxic/aggravating posts in da foocher(the future). Anyway, sorry for the long-winded comment, enjoy your day my good fellow human! (:
@@RepEvox I, a mere mortal, am in the presence of a being in a higher plane of balisong existence than mine own, and I respect that. My sincerest apologies 🙏 😅
the community is indeed toxic and personaly i dont like clones but it doesnt mean i hate the person, i hate the company. and the fact that people hate live blades is just weird because i would never flip one even if i were in an area were it would be legal. and the hooby is so imporrtant to me but sometimes some people just ruin it. but hey this is a really good video!
Great video! I made a vid about this same thing and lots of people have, but doesn't seem like many people have done anything :/ hopefully some of the toxicity diest out! Edit: those are fantastic socks!
I feel like that passage is more something to live by than concrete truth. I'm for and against it, but I will say I've been told some hurtful things but nothing speaks as loud as the titanium screw in my finger when it rains or I throw something hard haha
Absolutely agree with entire video!!!! Love both channels bro!!!! I have a question for ya Will, Have you ever flipped a EOS Serpent??? I swear it’s the most underrated Balisong out there. Keep up the great work man!!
Majority of the balisong community can't afford the knives that they have so they constantly have to buy and sell just so they can pay rent.....I take their opinions with a grain of salt.... fact is on Facebook etc people will be assholes as they aren't held accountable, moderators need to step up and take out the trash.
Not only is his balisong flipping skill high, but he can do it sitting down, too. I struggle to flip well while sitting down, and I have to be standing/walking in order to do a decent combo.
Here, you get to hear my opinion. I don’t give a shit about anyone else’s opinion. Either I like the knife/ what their doing or i don’t give a flying fuck.
I’ve been trying to think of a good comparison for the live blade vs trainer debate. It is like someone who can bring things back up from their stomach after swallowing it and there are people who do so with swords or dangerous objects. Both have the same ability, which is already impressive, however one had a larger risk factor and that can be more impressive. Live blade or trainer, you can be equally as good both there is no difference in terms of skill. Flipping is flipping. If I see a crazy combo on either one I’m impressed because flipping itself is the skill. The only thing that is different is the risk factor which can be appreciated in a different way and there is nothing right or wrong to flip with they all do the same things.
I think there is a difference in skill, I have to question why somebody would record themselves flipping a trainer. To me it says they physically can't do it with a real knife or the lack the confidence. I have no problem with trainers but I can't see the appeal of watching somebody flip one.
@@user-ue6iv2rd1n yeah I agree with you to some extent but at the end of the day it’s the same trick. I wouldn’t say it’s a matter of skill but preference or availability. Some people may live in states where it is illegal or they may be too young to own a live blade, this doesn’t mean they have less skill at all. I flip live blades because in addition to flipping I like to collect balis because I don’t see the point in having a trainer that’s over $200. I can’t display it and it’s not as collectible or cool to me. I own a trainer as well to beat up because we cannot carry here. Trainers do have a place and it doesn’t say anything about skill. One is not better than the other because you can cut yourself. At the end of the day if you are respecting the trainer just as you would a live blade there is no problem. But when you practice a bad habit like catching a falling trainer or letting the bite handle hit you and sayin “oh whatever I didn’t get cut,” that is just being lazy and not respecting flipping. If someone simply is scared or doesn’t have the means to get one that does not mean they are any less of a flipper. We need to be more inclusive we don’t need to further divide the community that’s not very large to begin with by creating an “elite” class of flippers who hate on people using trainers. Keep on flipping bro! Remember, everyone here wants the same thing, to have fun and be part of a community so we should do our best to make sure there is no silly divisions. 🤟🏾
Funny part is: I own 5 trainers and no live blades. When I eventually get one, it will be for edc and not to flip. I am incredibly clumsy, and if I flip a live blade, I’ll be in the hospital within the week. It’s not that I’m scared to, it’s that I know my limitations. I’ve also only been flipping for a couple weeks now, I can barely pull off a behind the 8-ball! XD Thanks for the info about the community, though. I had no idea that it could be so toxic, considering I’ve been surrounded by encouraging and open-minded flippers. Let’s me know to stay off the Twitter.
Why is there even an argument, they are called “Trainers” for a reason, I’ve learned tricks on both live blades and trainers, I learned my first Ariel on a live blade but I learned most of my other tricks on a clone trainer, it doesn’t matter what you learn on, as long as you enjoy what you’re doing without hurting anyone, nothing matters this much to make such a big deal out of it. I’m so glad this is the first channel I started out on in the balisong community, I’m in several toxic communities and it’s just sad that no one can just be not toxic for once.
I am in the camp of one of those dudes who have a clone. I wanna make clear that I can afford the real deal, but if I do buy the real deal, I would have to file chapter 11 bankruptcy. Getting an immense amount of hate by the community and even have people try to dox me is kinda sad all because I own a clone.
Cant say ive hung out with many members irl other than those who practice the art in the flow community (where im coming from) but joining some groups on fb, watching some vids on youtube, i immediately noticed the ego and ppl thinking theyre the shit for playing with knifes, putting down those who only play with trainers ect. It true this community be radiating some toxicity. Like some ppl finding there identity through putting others down.. Just whhyyyyyyyyy??? Doesnt need to be like this guys.
Well I see it as this, I get manufacturers reasoning to charge what they charge for balisongs, but then again, the prices could come down a bit if there was more time spent in the production side of it selling balisongs in limited batches is not an excuse to charge an absurd amount, especially if said company has means to make plenty more. (Imagine a company that made balis at a more consumer friendly price. Not only would flipping become more popular but also they would gain a foothold on the market) Clones are clones, it's theft of intellectual property IF the balisong has a unique feature that is comparing it to any balisong, but to me it seems that it's the accepted companies that are cool with "sharing" intellectual property amongst themselves, but if you are an outsider it's unacceptable.
I bought both a 42 and 47 clone from TheOne cause of your recommendation. Can't wait to flip them in a few days, plus benchmade aren't losing anything from these clones.
The Instagram community is super toxic and one of the reasons I deleted my account and won't publicly post anything on my current account. The reddit community is surprisingly relaxed.
man in the philippines, they will say "you wanna be efficient just do those quick openings" at the same time, they will say "flipping is cool too though", I think filipinos would be happy that balisongs are becoming a world wide thing, but we definitely won't be happy with the toxcisity around it (even if it is a small minority, they are loud)..like there is absolutely nothing wrong with using trainers...Its not any damn different than taping up the bladed part of the knife.. i hope to someday own a balisong from Batangas, Philippines, they may not be the best flippers but they are beautifiully made, and some of those blades are very unique..but I will happily flipping my trainer thank you very much..
The only clone I genuinely like is the kraken v2.5 clones that has a pink anodize with inked trainer blade, but I do want to get an actual item from a knife maker, I like trainers more because of safety and just flipping in general, but i have a live blade because they are quieter than trainers.
I literally just saw one of the mods on the balisong reddit saying how he wishes they didn't allow popsickle sticks and legos because it makes it seem less "official" and more "childish" and its just like, why can't you just keep that to yourself? he followed it by saying he's happy it gets people into the hobby but it still is just disrespectful in my opinion
I think also these people are really dumb, i mean like i flip a clone and a trainer because im not able to get a live blade, but i will buy a real product but know i cant afford one. And if would someone get mad at me because of that i wouldn’t understand. Tbh I’ve never have experienced something like that and i think I’m very happy, but i hope the balisong community gets less toxic
I agree with absolutely everything said in this video one big thing you didn't mention was the sexism. I am talking pretty specifically about r/balisong. Anytime a girl posts there they are sexualized or told sexist comments. I love the subreddit and have met some cool people on there if you don't have thick skin I would suggest you stay away till people get their shit together
@@WillHirschFlips yeah you should read some of the reddit comments most of them get taken down quickly but they should not even be there in the first place.
Hey will do you know where to get the upgraded pivots for the bm51 and replacement washers. Also maybe make a video on how to find the right replacement washers for the bm51. I know I’m a couple years late but any help is much appreciated brother
Just a general observation... A lot of our community is made up of people that kind of exist on the fringes. Lots of social outcasts and folks who don't quite fit the mold. This isn't a bad thing btw, but I think it does mean that generally speaking there are a lot of us that don't necessarily fit into "normal" social circles. That can be an isolating feeling that leads to anti social and cynical behaviors, but in the other hand I like to think that we can also use that as a way to build solidarity in the community. In a lot of ways it reminds me of the Island of Misfit Toys. Embrace it and just be kind to one another. Being mean and rude isn't going to make you feel better or make you grow into a better version of yourself so it's honestly just a counter productive waste of energy.
I’ve seen people get PISSED at people for flipping trainers or not owning any live blades and I just don’t understand it
Same here. Its getting out of hand
I’m not allowed by my therapist (and pretty sure insurance) to own a live blade due to mental health reasons so the fact that trainers exist (especially ones like the squiddy which aren’t even metal) is so helpful

none of it matters, extremism creates toxicity and a divide in a community, there needs to be a middle ground for everything, understanding that nothing is entirely black or white with everything creates an infinitely better community, clones arnt entirely bad or good, and same can be said for the real deal, flipping only trainers isnt entirely a bad thing or a good thing, same for live blades, every company has their ups and downs, every company has great things about them and awful flaws about them, pros and cons, nothing is one or the other, nothing is only good or bad, everything is in the middle and deviating slightly, everything is a grey area. understanding that will lead to a better community with more rational thought. a good step towards this would be open conversations for all controversial topics, instead of arguments about everything under the sun.

You have a platform and you’re making a positive impact the more people like you that pop up kinda filters out the negative people. Enjoy your videos think I’ve watched them all in the last month or so. Keep it moving forward!
Also: negativity is always louder than positivity.
This is true! Which is why I plan to be pretty loud
@@WillHirschFlips POSITIVITY SCREAM!! AAAAAAAAAGGGGGHHH!!!
@@RepEvox I mean just figure it out as just stop and do whatever you have to do.
I appreciate you for always considering others, I like your hindsight! Great work as always 👏
Everything you said throughout this video was on point and transcends out into something that everybody should hear.
I think the saying she be more like "sticks and stone may brake my bones but words will break my heart".
I agree with that!
Not to mention the constant hate against bearings. I’ve seen very few people from the bearing loving side of the equation hate on bushings but I’ve seen so many on the bushing side of things call bearings awful and it breaks my heart because we all love the same things and our preferences shouldn’t separate us
I have never seen the toxic side of this community. I only see nice people in the comments of videos and on the balisong reddit:)
honestly my most toxic interactions are when people are claiming a knife is a clone when there is barely anything connecting the two and i think its ridiculously slanderous, i got called a "fucking empty headed twat" recently just because i disagreed and didn't think it looked enough like the knife he was pointing to, huh? c'mon guys, people are gonna have similar ideas, the karambit has been on pretty much the same platform since its inception(and were talking from 1300 till now which is like 700 years) and last time i checked there's not much complaint about it
that's exactly what I was thinking as well. it makes it incredibly hard to design a knife without getting shit on by a ton of people for "copying" or "cloning" their blade shape or concept though in the end it is still unique just reminiscent of another knife

Whooping out a balisong to cut open bigass cardboard boxes is just Steve McQueen coolern' heck!
you are absolutely right, i honestly wish the community was better. cant we all just get along and flip together?
Im glad we have someone like you in the community Will.
as a new flipper it's really discouraging to see people get hate or be pressured to break the law to own a live blade and the sentiment be 'well obviously you just don't care enough about the hobby to own/flip a live blade'. i think extreme opinions like this put people on the defensive, which reinforces an 'us' vs 'them' mentality that eventually creates a rift. same with clones, there are incredibly strong opinions against clones but i haven't seen any discussion about the problematic nature of drop releases. same with reviews (i think this is the first time that i've heard someone say that most knives from makers are actually really good, they just don't fit everyone). a lot of these issues are a lot more grey than opinions would have us believe and i genuinely don't understand why there is this 'superiority' on either side of these issues for a hobby that is literally about flipping and twirling an object.
Wow man really deep thoughts that apply to life as a whole. Thanks for the talk and your flipping is awesome
In the regular edc knife community it’s actually generally pretty welcoming and has been a good experience. But when I joined the balisong community it has been pretty rough tbh
Great vid Will, we need more people like you!
Great video
The reason that there is no middle ground is because of the way that media works, you think that clones are either bad or fine ish, then because you talk about stuff like that or watch videos, you get shown more stuff about that, and people just end up on one side or the other
“if you buy one, you have aids now” holy shit i’m dying lmfaooo
Squid industries should be so embarrassed of the tsunamis price point when clone companies make the same exact thing for 100 and anyone who spends 600 extra money on “intellectual property” should remember that purchase before commenting on other people’s purchases because “intellectual property” has an expiry date maybe 10 years maybe 100 either way u spent an extra 600 on something that I got for 100 👍
Please do a backhand fan tutorial. Your looks very good and flowey.
Nice work. You're a real nice dude trying to get ppl to care ❤️
People in general are toxic. Almost any hobby, any field of entertainment, any field of labor/career is filled with people dumping their self hate onto others. Many try to dismiss it as “oh I’m just trolling. U mad?” But they self snitch in the process that their mental state is so down that they can only bring it up by bringing others down too
It's sad, I'm hoping we can work together and reduce it at least
Clones suck but I'm not mean to people about it
tl;dw:
Don't gatekeep, let others have fun, and be kind to one another.
I have nothing against either live blade or trainer flippers, I just want people to not be like... y'know... mean?
@@RepEvox
TL;DR:You're not *wrong,* I just wish people would be more decent people in general.

the community is indeed toxic and personaly i dont like clones but it doesnt mean i hate the person, i hate the company. and the fact that people hate live blades is just weird because i would never flip one even if i were in an area were it would be legal. and the hooby is so imporrtant to me but sometimes some people just ruin it. but hey this is a really good video!
Great video! I made a vid about this same thing and lots of people have, but doesn't seem like many people have done anything :/ hopefully some of the toxicity diest out!

I love you, Will
Majority of the balisong community can't afford the knives that they have so they constantly have to buy and sell just so they can pay rent.....I take their opinions with a grain of salt.... fact is on Facebook etc people will be assholes as they aren't held accountable, moderators need to step up and take out the trash.
Not only is his balisong flipping skill high, but he can do it sitting down, too. I struggle to flip well while sitting down, and I have to be standing/walking in order to do a decent combo.

@@user-ue6iv2rd1n also most people don’t flip trainers or even live blades to be watched this is for fun.
XD
Thanks for the info about the community, though.
Not toxic in the will hirsch discord server :)
I collect and occasionally use live blades as actual cutting implements. However I love to beat and flip the shit out of my trainers.
Which balisong is the black one he’s flipping? Looks and sounds great
Trainers 🤝 Live blades
This is also a good life advice
Not only would flipping become more popular but also they would gain a foothold on the market)
Clones are clones, it's theft of intellectual property IF the balisong has a unique feature that is comparing it to any balisong, but to me it seems that it's the accepted companies that are cool with "sharing" intellectual property amongst themselves, but if you are an outsider it's unacceptable.
They sell them limited numbers to keep the price artificially high. Every other business just expands to meet demand.
Did anyone see the bakery at the background? 4:13
I exclusively flip trainers but live blades are fun to flip as well and i wish i could buy a talisong
Great video dude, I think everyone should be more kind, even me for everyone couse World will be better then ♡
I bought both a 42 and 47 clone from TheOne cause of your recommendation.
Man it should just be, flippy flippy go wee and that’s it
The only clone I genuinely like is the kraken v2.5 clones that has a pink anodize with inked trainer blade, but I do want to get an actual item from a knife maker, I like trainers more because of safety and just flipping in general, but i have a live blade because they are quieter than trainers.
That's a great point!
