- Learning how to sharpen and use a card scraper was a challenge for me when I started woodworking however once I knew how to successfully sharpen and use one it was a game changer. I this video I show my method of preparing, sharpening and using a card or cabinet scraper.

That's very thorough, clear and concise. Thanks, Patrick!
Nice refresher on the card scraper quick and easy to follow
Thank you Patrick. Your instructions are clear and to the point, much appreciated.
I use an old chefs 'steel' for burnishing the edges to create the hooks.
Great instructional video.
Outstanding video Patrick! I needed that refresher class. Thank you - Barry
Cheers, glad you found it useful.
Very cool Pat, one of these days I really need to get me one of these, thank you 😊
Thanks, very informative
Thanks for doing this one Patrick!
Brilliant. Dead useful. I quickly sharpen mine on an old chisel, but I’m due a proper sharpen.
Great video Patrick made it look simple and do able Jerry from memory makes his scrapers from saw blades too he uses several different types in a video he used . I'm going to have a go matey thanksa curved one too strip the finish from a guitar I'm going to have a go thanks👍👍
Thank you.
Thank you. Now to just do it
Thanks a bunch Patrick.
Thanks!

Thanks. I'll be giving your methoed a try. Last time I tried with a different methoed and all I could get was dust. :(
Fantastic lesson.. doesn't the bend in the scraper inherently dig into the center only and leaves the side less planed?..assuming is why you go at it with varying angles..
Thanks a bunch! I read up on these some years ago, but I didn't quite internalize the creation of the cutting edge. Very helpful. I'm assuming this would work well on mahogany and other cross grain prone species one tends to find in guitar building?
Pretty much the same way i sharpen mine, i have a file mounted in a block to make the 90° edge ( much like the 30° fret end file in a block only 90°).
I make sure to use the whole of the diamond stone surface and flip it end to end to reduce any grooves.
👍
Thanks Pat
The thing i always struggle with is just how much downward pressure to apply with the burnisher. Are you using significant pressure?
