Excellent video as always. A great explanation of using/ sharpening this tool which I have just bought. I will only be using it as a coarse tool so I will keep it simple. Keep up the great work.
Am I correct that I can use any piece of sheet steel as a card scrapper? Is there perhaps a thickness that works best? I don't have a scrapper, and have been seeing them discussed a bit lately, and I've had more than a few episodes of glue interfering with my stain. Btw, been a huge fan since I came across your "screw the skew" video! I took the challenge, and love using my oval skew now.
Technically ya, any steel. But the ones they make now dedicated to being card scrapers are so nice, and inexpensive.... I've grown to prefer the thicker ones.

Excellent info! I just got some card scrapers so it was good for me to hear you basically tell it like it really is. Thanks for the video.
Thanks
An elegant tool for a more civilized woodworker.
But it doesn't require one of those crystals.
The Perfect Edge is by far the best sharpening reference I've ever read too. Really a must have.
Yes it is.
Natural confident passing on skills and expertise. Great vids.
Thanks
I've learn so much from your tips of the day and your book recommendations. Thanks
Thanks
Nice video. My old woodwork teacher taught me to do it your way almost 60 years ago and it worked just fine.
Thanks
Great info in an entertaining video. Thank you! Ordering some card scrapers soon, and now I’ll know how to sharpen them.
Thanks
Great video. I love all of your videos...very informative. Thank you.
Thanks
Excellent thanks
Thanks
Love these videos. Thanks for making them!
Thanks
now I'd love to see your take on making cabinet scraper plane.
I have a lovely Veritas one that really isn't much money. So that one isn't in works but... there are a few planes on the horizon.
thanks for the great tips
Thanks
I like your way of sharpening. Question: How do you sharpen curved scrapers?
Thanks. Same way, just rotate the card.
I notice you didn't turn the hook all the way into the corners. Any reason behind that?
I can't use the corners or ... I don't know how to bend the corner to the curve I like to use when scraping. So no need to have the burr.
Hi, really good video, thank you. Could I use a knife steel instead of a burnishing tool to create the burr?
Thanks, I'm afraid I don't know what knife steel is as far as hardness. You need something much harder than the card scraper and very smooth.

I agree. I had a few cut from spring steel and they were ok, but after using a LN scraper they feel like junk.
Very very interesting!!! Thank you so much. Is correct? Boh... ;)
Thanks. Not sure I understand the question thou.
wortheffort nothing, only if that i wrote was correct... ;)
like it
Thanks
