Hi, i've been flying RC helis for over 15 years on and off,i just bought a phantom 2 with the zenmuse gimbal, im geting familiar with it, just hovering around for now, thank you so much for the informative videos, i didn't know about seting up the switch functions, untill i watched this video, dji just sets up the fantom 2 for basic flying, keep up the good work and thanks for taking the time to post your useful videos...God Bless
Your videos are fun to watch and very well crafted. You did a great job explaining what can sometimes be a very complex concept. Thank you for your efforts. Your videos have really helped me a lot as a novice Phantom pilot.
I have got the p2v and found out that the tx that comes with it is not mark up, g,p,s or a,t,t,i mode so found your video explaining the modes a great help thanks keep it up
Great description Jim. Had my Phantom 8 months and now I finally understand HL and CL options. They are a huge benefit ...just wish I had seem this video sooner!!
Thank You SO much for this vid..I have watched several on these functions and was confused as ever and then yours!! Straight forward and clear..Helped me so much.
Brilliant vid. I just flew my Vision 2+ for the first time, and I only had two landing topples :) It was windy and fairly hard to control - only now do I realise that I wasn't in GPS mode! Still, it's all practice, and I'm sure it'll get less terrifying over time...
Demunseed I'm getting there mate, small steps. After reading the manual in more depth it turns out I've been flying without GPS most of the time (I'd take off with a lock, and lose it shortly afterwards). This is probably a good thing as it was forcing me to fly and not rely on automation! Some of my nerves are resulting from my first quadcopter experience with a parrot bebop that decided to fly away uncontrolled on it's first proper flight, owing to a software glitch that randomly dropped it's wifi - I was less than 20m away from it at the time... I managed to recover it from a tree but it was damaged beyond repair, and my confidence was knocked. It will be a while before I feel confident enough to push the Phantom a little further with its range or flight envelope.
Nice video, you have great teaching skills, yust bought the Phantom 2 Vision and learned more by this video than the messy manual in a few minutes. I am a experienced Helipilot, fly 3D but new to the multirotor world. Have had several friends that have asked me to film their house and environment with my big helis(have a HD sports camera) but these machines are made for speed and the quality isn't to good because of vibrations and little place for mounting the camera with dampeners. Will try the different modes tomorrow at the field. Tested the Vision 2 camera linked to my phone today and is veary pleased withe the quality of pictures and video, moore than good enough for a amatour, thanks for the vid.
Straight to the point clearly explained. What does the switch I think called a flame switch on the back of the transmitter do? Thank you for the great video!
Hi Jim Just a short note to say thank you for your videos I have learned so much from you, you rock so thanks from Wales, UK (over the pond from you Americans) Regards Fat Ferret :-)
As always, great video. Just wish you would either turn the music down in the background or not have any. It is kind of distracting when watching an instructional video. Sorry. Just my crazy 2 cents.
Demunseed This is my "Go To" video when I have questions about the various Naza mode functions. You explain things very well and the diagrams are nice visuals.
Great video man your a naturaul teacher I'm an advanced flyer so I didn't really like automatic now I can finally fly in manual thanks Again man great video I was also wondering what is the maximum range for my dji phantom 2 thanks
Your UA-cam videos are some of the best! My question is why not fly in the home lock mode all the time? No matter if you can see the Phantom or not, it would seem easier (all the time) to control the aircraft and not have to worry about the quadcopter's orientation…. right?
Wow Jim, another great info video explaining the various modes on the DJI Phantom all while wearing that great set of DYI northern California sun glasses or ????. Any way, great info and presented so it can be understood and used in the future as quadcopter skill sets improve.
I can switch into home lock/ course lock in PHANTOM mode correct. Naza mode is just used to "unlock" the manual on your s1 controls. Happy new year and thank u for everything
For Course Lock, try chasing a kid on a bike or a jogger down the street or a moving car or something.... Practice "turning" your phantom while flying along this straight path....
Where are you buying it from??? I can get you the BEST deal and excellent customer service from Perer Ellin (owner) over at www.acesdeals.biz Order from his website. Type DEMUNSEED into the coupon code. You'll get a discount off of his SALE price!!! (888) 239-2644
Thanks for the explanations, they do help! However, a small point of criticism on your video technique: less of you talking into the camera and try to replace it with narration over demonstration. I feel your viewers may get more out of that.
i completely agree - and I'm getting gradually better on the "production" end of things as we go along. Many times, its just ME working the camera, so its difficult to do both jobs...
Thank you! You are a great teacher, I've subscribed and will watch all your tutorials. I just got my phantom v1 on ebay and have flown about 10 batteries worth. Ordered the vision 9" props to hopefully get more than 8 minutes but not sure how to protect them with the prop guards I have on since they are 1" longer?
Hey great info! Are all of these features the Course Lock & Home Lock set like you say in the video out of the box? Or do I have to plug in the USB cable and set through my PC??
Very well done! If flying inside, presumably without GPS help are you automatically in ATTI mode? I assume there is no home or course lock indoors? Thanks again.
Great instructing .., the background music could be adjusted to @25% in edit. (really distracting). Thanks for putting this "out there", I'm about to attempt my second flight with my new Phantom V 2 + .
Good explanations of Home Lock. I like your style. For Course lock, what determines the direction of the course of travel when the stick is purshed forward? Is it the position of the Phantom when the Phantom device is turned on and ready, or is it the direction the Phantom is flying when when you switch the mode to CL?
It's based on the initial direction you head out in when switching to course lock... if that makes any sense. When you first take off and head in one particular direction, your course lock is based off of that direction.... just practice it a few times, you'll get the hang of it.
I havent yet - but not a bad idea.... I have a gimbal, for videography jobs, but i dont like flying with it day to day. Id rather fly low and fast without the gimbal....
great review one of the best iv seen. iv just got my self a phantom 1 and i love it had a thew quadcopters and got to say this is really good i recommend this..:) keep the good videos going Demunseed...:)
I have had the Phantom 2 for a month. That is the best explanation that I have seen yet. Much appreciated !!

cjm2005 Terrifying???? Don't worry - just fly the hell out of it!!!

DJI should hire you to write the manual. Great information! Thanks for posting.

Yer MORE than Welcome Ferret!!! Sat hello to my relatives in Peterborough for me!!! (grew up there).
As always, great video. Just wish you would either turn the music down in the background or not have any. It is kind of distracting when watching an instructional video.
Sorry. Just my crazy 2 cents.
I completely agree..... it was WAYYYYYY too loud.
Demunseed This is my "Go To" video when I have questions about the various Naza mode functions. You explain things very well and the diagrams are nice visuals.
best video so that I've seen so far for explaing CL, HL and IOC.
wouldnt hurt to wipe down your phantom and RC tho! :)
yep - it was pretty dirty - (embarrasing)
Demunseed Love it! It represents your experience in the field.

Good job Jim.
Great video! Gets to the point, and explains a lot, and it's easy to understand! Thank you!! :)
your welcome - hope you got some valuable info out of it....
Your UA-cam videos are some of the best! My question is why not fly in the home lock mode all the time? No matter if you can see the Phantom or not, it would seem easier (all the time) to control the aircraft and not have to worry about the quadcopter's orientation…. right?
because all of your controls are changed if you only fly in HL position - you need better control most of the time
Wow Jim, another great info video explaining the various modes on the DJI Phantom all while wearing that great set of DYI northern California sun glasses or ????. Any way, great info and presented so it can be understood and used in the future as quadcopter skill sets improve.
Thank you Mr.Malcovich :)
Great Instructional Videos
Thanks Bob - working on another video now - "1st flight for Newbies"
I can switch into home lock/ course lock in PHANTOM mode correct. Naza mode is just used to "unlock" the manual on your s1 controls. Happy new year and thank u for everything
NO . . . you MUST be in Naza-M mode in order for S2 (course lock home lock) to work.
For Course Lock, try chasing a kid on a bike or a jogger down the street or a moving car or something.... Practice "turning" your phantom while flying along this straight path....
nice
+Demunseed I tried that and knocked the kid off his bike. I was able to recover my drone. No blood was at scene. I follow dogs now. :)
good move...
great explanation. I look forward to viewing some more videos. perfect.
Glad u liked it Moto.... subscribe to win great Phantom stuff!
Great video. Many thanks.
Thanks for the videos. Really helpful. Agree with other comments that a video demonstrating HL & CL would be useful to see it work in action.

Ordered the vision 9" props to hopefully get more than 8 minutes but not sure how to protect them with the prop guards I have on since they are 1" longer?
You definately want to order the VISION PROP GUARDS..... theyll fit your phantom and theyre about $15 on ebay.... happy flying!
Hey great info! Are all of these features the Course Lock & Home Lock set like you say in the video out of the box? Or do I have to plug in the USB cable and set through my PC??
Great tips, thanks
Very well done! If flying inside, presumably without GPS help are you automatically in ATTI mode? I assume there is no home or course lock indoors? Thanks again.
even INSIDE, It can (sometimes) find GPS.... but yes, it will fly in ATTI indoors
but NOT automatically - it will still "hunt" for gps
Great instructing .., the background music could be adjusted to @25% in edit. (really distracting). Thanks for putting this "out there", I'm about to attempt my second flight with my new Phantom V 2 + .
thank you ...... great video!!

Great job thank you, you get an A grade👍😊
Excellent video. Have you done a video on Gain settings - I have a P2 with Gimbal and trying to figure out optimal gain settings.
I havent yet - but not a bad idea.... I have a gimbal, for videography jobs, but i dont like flying with it day to day. Id rather fly low and fast without the gimbal....
Great videos, thanks for posting..
