This film is excellent from beginning to end.. The script is intelligent & shows that policemen actually can be human too. The cast is excellent. Ian Hendry & Ronald Frasier play off each other well as the principal detectives assigned to the murder investigation of a model. Jeremy Brett as the model's lover is 1st rate. Peter Arne who portrays Brett's artist brother is perfectly loathsome as is James Villiers as a beloved TV actor who was blackmailing the murder victim. Jane Asher, one time Paul McCartney flame, does well as Hendry' s daughter. Michael Truman who directed severel Secret Agent Man, Danger Man, & Saint episodes methodically builds the mystery to it's climax. Each scene leaves the viewer wanting to know more about each character & what drives them. Give this film a chance & it will surprise you.👍
It shows how British police can sometimes be human. It does not apply to American cops. Here unarmed British police capture an active shooter, quite different than the heavily armed police cowards at Ulvalde who stood by for 77 minutes to serve and protect themselves while their prey was shooting school children. Then it took a border patrol officer to break in and kill him.
I love these old films, back when the main feature of the film was the story and the acting - not special effects! And back in the day when it was legal to cement broken glass onto the top of walls to stop burglars thieves, these days that is illegal because it could cause injury to the burglar.

I love movies from this era, how everything is kept in the camera's focus, as opposed to today's cinematography where only the actor speaking is and everything else is blurred out. That seems to me more natural to the way we view the world. The lack of special effects means the actors must act (or fail in their efforts) instead of relying on computerized eye candy, which often detract's from the plot.
