One of the most underrated films of all time. This film disappeared so fast when it was released in 1974. I saw it as a second bill(anyone remember them?) with Papillion. James Coburn is excellent in the lead. This film is suspenseful without the use of special effects or excessive violence. It also contains a story which most of todays films lack. Give this film a chance it may surprise you.
I came bc I was a big James Coburn fan. Seems I rem him being in lots of movies during his day and if he was in it, I watched it.
@@grandmalovesmebest : I was the same way when it came to Coburn. At one point in my if he was in a film I paid to see it in the theater. I remember seeing him in "Eraser", a perfectly awful film. It's only saving grace was James Caan. Coburn I believe got 4th billing but was only in the film for a few minutes. The price you pay for being a fan. Thanks for your comment. It is always great to hear someone who appreciates the talents of this excellent actor.✌
Must have gotten bad reviews as I've always been a coburn fan but I've never even heard of this film.
@@randquadrozzi1280: I must admit that many critics were not enthralled with this tiny film. But that never got in my way of catching a Coburn film. I was a huge fan of his & I paid money to see some real duds that he made like" The Baltimore Bullett," "Eraser,"& "High Risk."
But if you can take a chance on this well acted & directed film. It may surprise you. The supporting cast includes Lee Grant. Keenan Wynn, Harry Andrews & Michael Jayston. ✌ Always a pleasure to hear from a fellow James Coburn fan.
Stay healthy!
@@doublewhopper67: Thanks for you positive response to this fine film.👍
Love that Roy Budd score - so reminiscent of Get Carter. I love these spare, tightly plotted thrillers from the 70s and 80s, before CGI, Marvel and star power took over.
I agree.
@@AstralPixieCan someone answer the bloody phone daddy'o ?☝
Michael Cane said Get Carter was the worst film he has ever made! 😮
@championthewonderhorse9733 ahh yes, Last of Sheila, Coburn in drag.
Some person or people have taken the time to put flick vault together I think we should thank then for their efforts.may not b new movies but not watched a bad upload yet
@@petert9110 At least it is not used as bait

Pete Francis .... I agree with you....great work

I remember watching this film as a teenager back in the 80’s. Bought it on DVD years ago after searching for about an hour, trying to find its title. Great to see it uploaded on here for all to enjoy.
What an great film it is. Love the ending.
Anything cut out from it ?
Initial instrumental music with Indian tunes along with Tabla Playing ,Splendid 👌👌
The best actors of their generation.,now all passed ..GREAT FILM from the last golden age of cinema 1970s
Three of the first six named cast are still alive!
Here they all live on, past us.
Excellent movie and always Loved James Coburn for his talented acting and that wonderful voice of his!! An earlier comment was made that this movie came out in 1974. All I can say is the plot was ahead of it's time regarding politics and power relating to the same in 2020. Showing how far one person would go for that power but in this movie it was quite extreme, but nonetheless makes one stop and think and now in reality we are living in this political nightmare! I highly recommend watching this excellent movie to the end. Thank You So Much for this upload and look forward to more movies of this calibre!!👍🤗🎞🎥
thx 4 the post... think I will stay & watch
Lee Grant is one of those women who was more beautiful in her 40's than when she was younger (like in "Detective Story" or "Middle of the Night").
Just like Angelina Jolie . 😊
Improved make up artistry.
This UA-cam channel should be awarded the best channel in entertainment and movie section, as they have carefully gathered some of the best unknown gems of movies which was unheard by many. Great work guys. I'm you subscriber now.
Very good film, excellent cast and director. James Coburn always gives a performance worth watching. Thank you Flick Vault for bringing these good films back for our viewing pleasure!
Unsworth was such a brilliant cinematographer. That shower scene is gorgeously shot.
Time stamp ?
I’ve must have seen this 100 times.. brilliant ending. One of coburn’s best
I have watched it twice in a roll. Stellar cast. Marvellous James Coburn kills it with his performance. Stunning and brilliant Lee Grant. Incredible score. Love it all!! Thanks for this old gem.
Fantastic...films with plot and great acting....well I am from UK. once we had film industry in 60s and 70s ...James Coburn was great...Good to see old London on film.
Most of James Coburn life he suffered with Rheumatoid arthritis. However, he had the best posture in films.
I think he had it in his knees. But sometimes it's possible to have it only in one shoulder as I did when I was little. Now I have it in every joint.
James Coburn had such a great voice.
I'm a fan of his from "The Last of Sheila", "The Dain Curse" and, of course, "The Magnificent Seven". .
Good ole Lee Grant.
Thanks for posting.
"The Last of Sheila" is awesome! Wish it could be uploaded.
Don’t forget The Great Escape, one of the best films ever made
MY GIRL FRIEND LOVED HIS VOICE...BARRY WHITE, BLACK SINGER CANT GET ENOUTH OF YOUR LOVE, ANOTHER GREAT VOICE,
ONCE AGAIN I LOVE THE BRITISH SPIRIT ON IT.
@Grim FPV we still are .
Bad ass, worth watching. Intriguing drama to the max with an amazing ending.

James Coburn has a Terrific voice
So does Keenan Wynn. :)
Great Film. Thank You Flick Vault for Uploading these Great Vintage Films.
Great movie with a stellar cast giving excellent performances. I especially love the brilliant Harry Andrews, who usually plays a real gentleman, playing against type as a misogynistic killer spy. Beautifully atmospheric music by Roy Budd is the icing on the cake. Thanks Flick Vault!
That movie reminds me of The Third Man. And Susan Hampshire is so beautiful. 'You must know what you are doing, getting involved with people like that. You used to be such a nice guy'
If you mean the actress who played Jean in this film, that wasn't Susan Hampshire, it was Lee Grant, American actress.
What a gem, thank you Flick Vault
Ian Hendry gives a magnificent supporting performance here. All in my biography of Hendry, Send in the Clowns. Coburn was one of the few really big stars who could hold his own with the likes of Hendry and Andrews and Jayston.
Ian Hendry is always excellent. He's very good at playing weak-willed characters
- What a gem by a plot! Where this and some of this kind of films have been hiding, really? Now they start to appear from the dusty shelves - almost magically. Really good film, good actors and J. Coburn fits the bill here like a nappa leather-glove into the hand. Thank You for bringing this rare, very good film out. -
I would never have known this gem. Thanks much!
A masterpiece. Thank you.
Haven't seen this movie for a few decades. Just came across it and thank you xx
I wish they’d let villain get away with it once in a while, because this would be an invitation to a sequel. This story was worthy of playing out further.
Agreed. A sequel would have been great.
Thank You for these Awesome Movies !!!!! Greatly appreciated 😄😄🌹🌹❤❤
An absolute gem with a great cast.
Strange flick i love james coburn and this is the first movie id ever seen when i was not on his side and didnt like his character at all so i loved the ending and he got exactly what he deserved which i was glad to see i was afraid watching the movie he would not get his just due which would have messed up my opinion on the whole movie perfect example of how important a strong ending to a flick is. I love seeing all these shows i missed over the years on here even as big of a movie dork as i am still cant see everything its great to not only see these classics but this one i seen for the first time which is always a treat. I love all kinds of movies from all different decades but id have to say the 70s are probably my favorite although since i was born in 1977 i have a real weakness for 80s and 90s as well cause i grew up on them. Great movie glad to see it james coburn always was one hell of a great actor.
I love James Coburn. Anything he is in I'll watch. I've never seen this before. I can't find what everyone is speaking of "The Last Of Sheila." Thank you for uploading this film.
Harry Andrews was particularly memorable as the woman hating (probably repressed, closeted gay) ex~army man archetype. Brutal, like he was in "The Hill" (with Ian Hendry, also featured here) and Connery.🎭
Harry Andrews was hardly "closeted," as his partner for more than 30 years was fellow actor Basil Hoskins, who survived him until 2005.
Coburn is a great actor.
Mega-dittos, Jimmy. This was about as good as Coburn got. Thanks again. Worth watching several times. (Aug. 30, 2020.)
He blinked at the end when he was supposed to be dead and the guy pushed the microphone at him. I guess training with bruce lee will do that to someone.
TRUE INDEED.
I absolutely love your selection of films. That said, could you please include the year the film was released in your description please. Thank you et Bon Cinéma!!
Me too . Topnotch viewing on this channel .
Internicine project released 1974. Just check the IMDb. It also comes up in the opening credits in Roman numerals.
The ending i saw coming, only I thought it wouldn't have been so clever.
Just the right length for.this euro-american thriller. Superb performances from all and tightly edited to keep up the pace.
WHO'S Watching IN 2020 👍
Fantastic film. Great ending " what goes around, comes around " The perfect crime has a tragic ending
Thank you for sharing Flick Vault. A very good watch.
They didn’t have to kill anyone in this movie .
They would have all died from cirrhosis of the liver .
James Coburn is Amazing in This film !
Good picture, well worth watching. Thanks Flick Vault.
My number 1 favourite movie of all time. Thank you.
I remember the ending from my youth when i had first seen the movie...40+ years later and i finally see the whole movie! Great film with a great cast...thank you for posting this awesome 70s thriller 😀
I always loved the ironic twist to this flick! Great! Thanks!
Another from the vault, of James Coburns performances.
Thankyou for the upload👍👍☺️
Isn't THIS a creative merry-go-round! I wonder just now stumped Columbo/Poirot would have been? Many thanks for uploading this treasure!
the best films so far- thanx flick vault
Good thriller flick. Always dug James Coburn.
He starred in that 1999 film PAYBACK with Mel Gibson, that was a remake of a 1969 film with Lee Marvin
same here.. I like coburn’s 70’s films, watch cross of iron and the carey treatment
Love it . Thank you very much .
Today, it would be called, The internet project. Lol! Always loved James Coburn!
Coburn always great to watch
This was a script, for them. Which came first, real life or the script? hmmm
Hardly. Were you to actually look up the word internecine, you'd understand the point.
OMG what a great movie! Thanx for sharing this. Loved it!!!
Superb Film .
I have been wanting to see this for decades. Thank you 🙌🏻
Excellent FILM !!!!!
May I give this film a very strong recommendation, providing you pay deep attention to all the comings and goings (murders!). England, March, 2024.
I would have slammed door. So desperate and rude of Jean to insist her way into Elliot's apartment.
It reminds me a bit of the old Charles Bronson film The Mechanic (1972). This was an equally good film.
The synopsis reads more like the plot of Good Guys Were Black 1978
I meant to say 'wear' not "were"
@@chadcastagana9181 Good Guys Were Black does sound cool though...
The Mechanic is a great movie. Two very handsome, leading men, also.
James Coburn was magnificent in Bite the Bullet with Gene Hackman, Candace Bergen, and Jan Michael Vincent. A great western about a horse race.
Anything with Lee Grant is super duper
Trying to remember the name for months.. great concept.. i really enjoyed this film
That masseur (Bert, played by Harris Andrews) reminds me of Anthony Hopkins as Dr Lecter. I wonder whether this is where he drew some of his inspiration for his role?
Thanks for uploading all those 1970s flicks. So much cynicism... No wonder we live in such a 'dog eat dog' world.
Like you, I wondered if Harry Andrews [Bert] had taken inspiration for his act of violence from a former film. In my case, though, what came to mind was the shower scene in 'Psycho'.
Great channel with superb taste of classic films
Good movie. Thanks.
great story and a stellar cast, thanks flick vault
I love the opening remarks . Why don't you write a cook book ! Nothing drives me up the wall more than crusading lady journalist . Lmbo !!! Classic manly man lines from James Coburn 👍👍😂
Great film and Coburn the most excellent poker face
Good movie and one that Illustrates what I tell people about the problem of conspiracies. All it takes is one person with a dead man letter to foul everything up and in this case poison.
keep up the good work flick vault👍
Oh man! I've been looking for this movie for ages!
James Coburn!!
Music by Roy Budd!!!
The music was perfect.
Who's playing tablas?
How many of them are there out there in the realm of politics who think the rest of us are all idiots. I can think of quite a few.
Great movie! Love Coburn.
Very clever murders..nice surprise ending. Thanks for posting.
Like a missing Flint film with more drama. Excellent
... surprisingly good thriller... I especially liked the homage to the music of John Barry/'The Ipcress File', re; the balalaika... has a cast of excellent actors with old super slick James Coburn (RIP) as the top CIA banana... Thanks for uploading 'Flick Vault'
thanks for uploading this, it was a good movie. i have never seen this one before . 🌟🌟🌟👀👓🤓
Super Film Dankeschön 😊 😊 😊 👍 👍 👍 👌 👌 👌 👏 👏 👏
Mr Coburn sure had a taste for Scotch.
I have always like James Coburn.
Outstanding movie, thanks for uploading !!
R.I.P. BRITT !
James coburn , one of my favorite actors, but audio is so low can barely understand what's said except when they hollar,
Must have been filmed around the time he did the Band on the Run cover.
That was brilliant! I love this film. Fantastic twist at the end.
Totally agree. - It reminded me of "The Mechanic" too but how would David Baker know whether Elliot was going to wear gloves or not? (or possibly get an assistant to read the book).
Lee Grant is still alive (2020) aged nearly 95....
Because custum & habit wold have revealed that he never wore gloves, at least on a regular basis
Excellent old school movie.
Reminds me a bit of The Mechanic with Bronson and Vincent. Good flick
This movie is so relevant to the scheming and naivety of today’s world
Marvellous ending.!,
I would like to thank to the music director for adding Indian Tabla playing included 🙏❤
I only watch a film if 90% give a thumbs up.Flick vault means i have to watch film after film.
Great film.Coburn was brilliant.Biting satire of American foreign policy.Sacrificing faithful allies once their usefulness had come to an end is a routine occurrence. This film accurately puts into context the maxim that it is more dangerous to be America's friend than its enemy.
Great movie. Never lick your lips on papers your reading.
No animals came to harm in this movie , only rats
Unfortunately , some of the main protagonists are gone , due to excessive consumption of whisky
A great story, well paced and gripping. Nice plot twist at the end.!
i'll check it out. coburn plays a good weasel :)
Fabulous always
Great to see the old flicks, cities and fashions of the day. Jane Fonda is extraordinary. ty 4 movi
