Jack Hawkins, a British born actor, and this movie was a British production movie, with British English accents, a great film as most classic British films were...
Yes, but directed by John Ford. Now is that John Ford the American director or John Ford the British director? According to IMDb it was the American John Ford.
You need to change the title or watch the film yourself. American Police Crime Film? I think not. This film is as English as it gets. Set in London with the best of English actors. Anna Massey in her film debut. Jack Hawkins, one of the finest English actors to ever walk the earth. Gideons day is a classic. There was also a TV series, Gideon's Way, from the 1960s staring another great English actor, John Gregson. It's worth seeking out on UA-cam.
You're so right about Hawkins... this old American has loved watching him since I was an eight-year-old kid awestruck by Bridge on the River Kwai showing at the Wiltern Theater (at the corner of Wilshire Blvd. and Western Ave.) in Los Angeles.
I simply luv Jack Hawkins, (Double Headed Spy, etc.) no matter what he played in... This film I watch everytime I'm given the chance. Thank You for uploading this Gr8t film + the Eng speaking Language Subtitles 4Us hard-of-hearing/handicapped older peeps. ;-o)) Keep up the good work & have a grand day/nite wherever you may be.
Among the finest British screen actors! I cannot forget Hawkins in Bridge on the River Kwai ("I know how you feel, but there's always the unexpected, isn't there?") and Lawrence of Arabia ("That's to be expected.") And I loved his role as the Roman admiral in Ben-Hur ("You are all condemned men. We keep you alive to serve this ship. So row well, and live!") 👍👍👍👍👍
@johnc2438 Jack Hawkins has played in so many films it's hard to keep track of all them that he's in. ♡'s & ☆'s 4-Ever Jack Hawkins... a silver-screen hero & legendary household name in Classics. ThnX for the super Gr8t list. ♡
Blimey, that was some sound stage, looked just like the real city of London - complete with a flowing River Thames. Oh wait it was London ! Silly me believed the title of this video 😂
Well, Gideon`s Day in this case. Gideon`s Way was a TV series made a couple of years later, with John Gregson. It featured the same character, though, and was based on the J. J. Merric novels.

Well it was directed by John Ford but obviously Scotland Yard isn't in New York. The bobby's helmet should be a clue.
I was surprised as to how good this movie was. Great upload.

TOTALLY AWESOME, AS MOST BRIT SHOWS ARE😅
British 1950s yes ! but not 21st century .I lived then and still exist now.
Huh!
Great British Actors
I think I saw this movie years ago! Didn't realize it until Inspector Gibbons said '.......we are getting a little impatient.' Anyway ..........
Why does the title say American this movie is in England?
A film appears on UA-cam and it says: English. 90% it isn't.
American. LoL!

Why as everything got to be American , until the film or programme is shite 😂😂
