I think the bigger reason he is 1500 is his lack of understanding. Even 2400s like myself can hang a piece like NL did from time to time ─ that's not the decisive factor here. In this video alone, he demonstrated serious gaps in understanding, including not understanding that doubled pawns are only bad when isolated and are actually an asset if they bring a pawn closer to the centre and open up a file, being totally oblivious to the concept of weak pawns, underestimating the value of material in the endgame (especially the value of a non-isolated, non-backwards central pawn), overestimating the value of pawn protection near the king in the endgame, and being unaware of the bishop pair advantage, and that's just off the top of my head ─ there are probably other strategical concepts that he has neglected in the video that I just forgot about. Tactically, he has also shown some deficits, including only calculating just one or two lines as deeply as possible rather than calculating ALL of his opponent's viable responses to only a sufficient depth, tunnel-visioning, and not considering checks when that's one of the first things that you should calculate. Yes, 1500s, in general, have a great understanding of the fundamentals and have excellent board vision, with many having impressive pattern recognition, which is why, every once in a while, they really can play like grandmasters (no exaggeration). For example, I was impressed how quickly NL was able to identify many advanced plans and tactical ideas. But rating describes your average level, not your peak level, and it's impossible to consistently play at a high level with all of the deficits described above and MANY more.
@@maxkho00 Dude I saved a printscreen of your comment, so much valuable info here. Thanks a lot for explaining where are the gaps of understanding. ヽ(✿゚▽゚)ノ
I generally agree with you and think your assessment shows you are at least a strong club player. However, you're 2400 (?!) That means you're titled? A potential GM or IM? Is that your online rating?
When you pointed out your final check mate plan, I thought to myself: "yea, but your rook is hanging" and waited in anticipation to see how it gets taken and to see your face. Then your plan worked - lol. But it was cool to see your face in analysis anyway
38:26 is the most satisfying bit of this whole video. I was cackling at my screen in the game, and then it turned to praying that he would see it in the post-game analysis. One day our boy NL will figure out how the knights move.
Hey NL, I love the chess! Btw the trap you might be thinking of is the poisoned pawn. At time 12:41, let queen cap if they want but push KnC3, they take Knd5 to take pawn, and they can’t stop the rook king fork without losing tempo or screwing up their pawn position. Plus it’s a pawn for pawn! If knight tries to protect that pawn just trade him down
In the last game I was praying for the opponent to miss the free rook cause I liked your line so much hahah I know it’s bad chess to expect the opponent to do something stupid, but tbh I love bad chess hahah
Woot woot chess chess! Just gotta say regarding the last blunder in the last game: so been there. You're feeling good cause you're thinking you had a clean victory, only to realize you and your opponent missed an easy take.
From the review page you can click the analysis tab in the top right to step through move by move, I always find the ai review glosses over some stuff. It will still show postions and lines.
@@emilytacular He lost so much rating because he didn't play for a long time. Happened to me too, had not played a rapid game in months and then gained 20 elo
hey NL, the defense you play to the queen's gambit, 2... nf6, is actually losing for black, because white can play cxd5, and then after nxd5 recapturing the pawn white wins a tempo on the knight and gains the full center with 4. e4, attacking the knight and forcing it back. instead, you want to play 2... e6 or 2... c6, solidifying your center with a pawn
Love the new mindset NL! ❤️ Also For a man who plays the caro with black every chance he gets, he certainly has no clue what to do as white. It‘s hilarious to watch haha
Oh man that first misclick hurts my soul, we've all been there in online chess. I also wanna say that I have been critical in a couple of comments but chess is just that type of game where when you're stronger, you'll see better moves and it hurts to see bad moves played. I absolutely think you should be kinder to yourself as you are still rated decently above average in terms of chess players, and way above average in terms of the entire population. Plus your rating is probably roughly 1000 points higher than the chat average. I think the only place you really need concrete improvement is time, both in terms of the clock and in terms of tempo. You know yourself you can let your clock get too low on easy moves and then you don't have time for the critical moves. And then sometimes I think you give away too much free tempo to your opponent, letting them control the flow of the game. You are a great attacking player so you should be the one taking every tempi you get to pressure your opponent!
31:38 I'm pretty sure if you check him with your rook on d1, his knight just takes your free, blundered rook orrrr he doesn't see it. Neither of you sees it. What kind of tunnel vision madness is this
NL outplayes his opponents when he rattles them with a strange openning, I think that should be his strategy, don't give these online prepped players the upper hand by going into standard and familiar lines, take them out and let 14 year old NL take over
Love the chess content. Ignore the haters pointing out whatever moves, I and other people love this shit. Also I expect an onlyfans created from your colonoscopy. (Lol, really though, hope all goes well)
I don't usually comment move suggestions, but at 3:19 you should've pinned his e pawn with your rook to his king and then you could take his d pawn for free and be hitting his knight after too
love the chess NL, don't be so hard on yourself. we just like to watch you get weird with chess

1500s are capable of following grandmaster lines for several moves, while always being at the risk of hanging their most important piece for no reason
I think the bigger reason he is 1500 is his lack of understanding. Even 2400s like myself can hang a piece like NL did from time to time ─ that's not the decisive factor here.
