  • An in-depth tutorial on making a trigger for a puppet mechanism that can be built right into the handle of an arm-rod. Jeff Jantz explains the process step by step. At the end of the video, we will also look briefly at a double trigger design and a very simple trigger design that is a little easier to make.
    supplies:
    - 5/8" poplar dowel
    - Flat ridged plastic 1/8" to 1/4" thick, for the trigger, PVC or plexiglass or comparable.
    - Miscellaneous nuts, bolts, washers, and Nylock nuts
    - 1/8" cable clamps
    - 1/8" O.D. Nylon tubing
    - 70 to 100 lb test braided fishing line
    - Lobster clasp
    - 3/32" welding rod
    - 2 part quick setting epoxy
    - White lithium grease

This is great. I'm just getting into puppet making and had not thought about a trigger mechanism until I saw this video. I'll check out the other ones you suggested. Thanks for sharing this.

Rather than spray painting the welding rod black, how about using heat shrink tubing? it goes on fast and you just use a hairdryer to get it to shrink around the rod.

Yes! I have seen that trick. However, I can't seem to find a place where I can buy a large roll of heat shrink tube. Suppliers I have found are just short lengths...

Every helpful video. Can you add the types of nuts and bolts you used to the list please? Thank you.

I think they were #8. I usually keep lots of #6, #8, #10 on hand. Also good to have Nylocks on hand.

Awesome! I do wonder how someone would go about making puppets wink, blink and their eyes moving around without the use of extreme tech 🤔

Very possible. Definitely check out some of Adam krutinger's UA-cam. Yes I'm great tutorials about puppets and a few about puppet mechanisms.

@@JantzerStudios i have, i’m even subbed, but the videos are the real basics of a concept and i have troubles visualizing an eye mech that is hand operated but has the same freedoms as a mechanical one

It's easy to overthink anything but especially puppet mechanisms! KEEP IT SIMPLE 😀

The volume should only be an issue in the intro. Which is really just me rambling, LOL. Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do about it now.
