I was Mr Williams secretary for a few months while his secretary was having a baby. It was a lot of fun especially with Buddy Rich I used to help him with setting up his gigs. I was shy and so I never told Mr Williams that Frank's mother was my grandmothers midwife , they knew her in Hoboken and we're friends for a long time and Frank invited my grandparents to his parents 50th wedding anniversary. Just wish I was braver in those days.
OMG! So, that's the face of what I grew up listening to! You were an inspiration. May be why I even gave radio a thought back in the 60's out of CA. May be one of the reasons that I named one of my sons William. In those days I was a Jersey Girl. I ended up divorcing in CA and staying in the West when I am originally and still have family in the East. My brother who is a singer/songwriter living in New England - I was a WNEW fan most of my younger days.
Many thanks, Doug, for making my day! RIP William B. Williams (The Voice of Radio)
Williams is NY legend
Frank ♥
I remember "The Make-Believe Ballroom" with WBW on 1130 AM. Ahhhhh the 50's riding around with my dad with Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, Ella Fitzgerald, Dean Martin, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Jimmy Dorsey.....those were the days.
❤❤❤so nice to hear his voice again
Does anyone remember when John Candy played William B Williams on SCTV?
Never understood it.
William B. Williams was a neighbor here in Bergen County, living in the next town over during my High School Years.....
I listened all the time to William B. on WNEW as a young adult (not an old lady, or a housewife). He had a great way of bringing the listener into the music he was playing. I met him in NYC twice by accident and he was cordial and very friendly.
William B Williams enjoyed hearing the sound of his own voice...let Sinatra get a word in! Still, interesting!
