Love how this is a classic truck that hasnt been covered in chrome, led lights, painted a horrid paint scheme, etc, like many of them seem to be. Obviously well maintained and i assume still working, with the odd imperfection which gives it character. Sweet truck!!

The belt squeal is due to batteries that are drawing heavily. Notice when they gain enough charge the load on the alternator drops and the belt stops squealing. Tighten the belt and unnecessarily load the belt and engine. Probably that old belt will be replaced if the rig gets regular use anyway.
Now THAT is a TRUCK! That thing is so cool! It's got one of my favorite engines as well. The 8V92 is also the same engine that was in the Maximum Overdrive truck! I love it. I love seeing classic trucks in original condition or restored to original too. The weird stuff that some guys do to modernize and modify these trucks now adays really just kills the whole feel of a classic truck. This one has been well maintained and it still does what it's supposed to do: work.

Those old school style manual gear boxes are special. Autos are comfortable and practical like for eating a sandwhich, but lack the shifting thrill and skill of crash boxes. Thanks for the reply. I drive long haul in Europe.
My friend in N C had a crane company and one of the trucks we had was a 1977 Kenworth like this, it had a 400 in it, it was dark blue and had been an Old logging truck once. It was my Favorite one to drive, we hauled Heavy Equipment (mostly crane stuff) on flatbeds And lowboys... it was like a rogue Elephant 🐘.
Nice looking truck and it's dragging a pretty nice trailer too. Still getting it done and looking good and sounding good while you're doing it! Probably the best part is the history you and the truck have.
Damn. This guy sounds Cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute!!! My dad was driving one of these around just like it when I was 13. I miss going with him on Saturdays when I wasn't in school. Even though it was just 5 years ago. His company didn't believe in getting rid of the old ones. Too much money put into them.
Nice to see a proper truck without garish paint, so many unnecessary lights just nice and honest and lets not forget proper pipes not fake ones just to look cool.
Got the shift pattern a lil backwards, Corner bottom is Low then 1 2 3 4 in the H pattern then High Range 5L5H 6L6H 7L7H 8L8H you can also come out of 3rd gear into high range and take the corner gear aka cheater gear and split that then go to 5L and run through the top, Good gear for corners staying in high range or going up a hill gives you another gear to split because on a 13 going from 4 to 5 lugs er down to much in some cases, Why i prefer an 18 myself but beautiful truck !
The best guy around to adjust lash on a Detroit is Chuck Manning at Olympic Tank & Body in Anacortes. He's probably best NTC Cummins guy around, too. And, Kenworth Torsion Bar suspension.

Wish you could have taken us for a 15 minute stroll with that trailer. When first started I was wishing fervently you would have had a can of belt dressing for the v-belts. It continued to slip you could hear the whole time. Probably a tiny antifreeze leak.
yeah that would have been a fun drive, I wish i had tightened the belts too. unfortunately I was behind schedule and had only enough time to make the video and split. my uncle has a guy that was gonna work on it apparently.

Ward Lafrance Federal The OLD whites The 650 and 950 gmc Pacific And the L cab 75 series Mack .... was a gorgeous truck too ... And the Pete 281/351 And gmc general or Chevy bison.....
Osiris Mena also kenworth and peterbilt are built by the same company.... they are both paccar trucks I’ve never really understood the arguing over who is better with semis ..... the practically all outsourced to the same engine and transmission manufacturers. Cummins International CAT Detroit Perkins(very rarely) Almost impossible to get in a truck and not find a 8, 10 or 13 speed Eaton Or 7, 8, 9, 16 speed spicer..... so the only thing left to argue over is chassis or suspension And a lot of suspension part were outsourced to manufacturers like Hendrickson or rayco..... so that kinda just leaves the chassis ......and rear end.... which Mack had the heaviest chassis and rear ends back in the day sooooo. Any truck is really no better than the other unless a manufacturer makes changes to the design of an outsourced part to make it proprietary... that’s where problems happen.... I like kenworth trucks myself. But I grew up in Pete 359s. Ford l9000s And 1 frightliner fld ......... none of them ever really outperformed the other. They were reliable. And they all pulled good. With either the 3406 CAT or the 400 big cam Cummins Or the 466 that was in the ford. ........ I myself prefer a55 kw 521with 275,350 or 400 Cummins. With the t590 turbo A spicer 5&4. and Hendrickson spring suspension And 3.5” straight pipes but I like the old school stuff

I gotta say....I love A model Kenworth with a silver 8V92....you can paint them any color but the double "O" silver is the one to have.... A true 475 horse... But not so good fuel mileage.... jus sayin ⚡ ⚡🌠
I am looking for a 78 kenworth wit sleeper to fix up n or restore minor to medium things. Only for 2 reasons it's the year I was born n can avoid that annoying emissions..
I wouldnt exactly call it mint but it is a nice old truck that looks to be still working. Idk what a NEW school 13 speed is, but that isnt any different than a 13 speed youll find in any 2019 truck that isnt an auto shift. There is a smaller lighter duty 13 speed which is nothing more than a 10 speed with a deep reduction, which is also what a 15 speed is, however with a 15 speed you could go threw all 5 of the deep reduction gears and then to 1st gear low range and carry on, the old lighter duty 13 speed actually had 5 gears of deep reduction, however you couldnt go from 5 deep reduction to 1st low range as 1st low range was a shorter gear. If you used all 5 of the deep reduction, you had to go to 3rd low range, but the shift pattern on the dash designated 1-2-3 deep reduction, then 1st low range and so on just like a 10 speed. This tranny was common on trucks that didnt see a lot of actual highway or major route use with small engines. When I first started driving I used to run an international with a dt466 and that style 13 speed. That thing was numb as a boot but you could at least get it moving and keep it moving with that tranny even if it was slower than walking speed....
Excellent explanation. I was a little bass ackwards, I did a vid awhile back with an older style 13 speed where the high low range selector is separate from the shift knob that’s actually what I was trying to conveigh.
OHH a RED 8v92. That engine may be out of an international because the "red" colored ones were painted to be red for international trucks. Other truck brands were green, even the 8v92's were green. No aftercooler so that is a 430hp.

whats the warning light on the dash beside low air light ? i have 80 w900a and the light on right side of low air is stuck on wondering what its for?

I wouldnt exactly call it mint but it is a nice old truck that looks to be still working. Idk what a NEW school 13 speed is, but that isnt any different than a 13 speed youll find in any 2019 truck that isnt an auto shift. There is a smaller lighter duty 13 speed which is nothing more than a 10 speed with a deep reduction, which is also what a 15 speed is, however with a 15 speed you could go threw all 5 of the deep reduction gears and then to 1st gear low range and carry on, the old lighter duty 13 speed actually had 5 gears of deep reduction, however you couldnt go from 5 deep reduction to 1st low range as 1st low range was a shorter gear. If you used all 5 of the deep reduction, you had to go to 3rd low range, but the shift pattern on the dash designated 1-2-3 deep reduction, then 1st low range and so on just like a 10 speed. This tranny was common on trucks that didnt see a lot of actual highway or major route use with small engines. When I first started driving I used to run an international with a dt466 and that style 13 speed. That thing was numb as a boot but you could at least get it moving and keep it moving with that tranny even if it was slower than walking speed....
Excellent explanation. I was a little bass ackwards, I did a vid awhile back with an older style 13 speed where the high low range selector is separate from the shift knob that’s actually what I was trying to conveigh.
With the early 13 speeds you couldnt pre select the splitter to shift the next gear,split to low as you went into the next up shift.

OHH a RED 8v92. That engine may be out of an international because the "red" colored ones were painted to be red for international trucks. Other truck brands were green, even the 8v92's were green. No aftercooler so that is a 430hp.

Loved the 8v92! I remember also seeing em Silver around '80 or newer.
I drove an 81KW with a silver colored 92. 1981 the "silver" 92 color was introduced.
