I thought that it was a modern song after hearing it by many so called church singers, but I am so pleased that it was written a long time ago, back when church music was pure and beautiful. It just proves my point, they certainly knew how to write the music to beautiful sacred words.
A wonderful choice as our Offertory Hymn to be sung at St Marys Church in the parish of Handsworth in Birmingham U K this Sunday the Sunday Next before Lent. Thank you for posting it.
In Anglican services, the whole congregation sing the hymns and many churches also have a choir to lead the singing and also perform special anthems which the congregation is not expected to know.
The original words were from a poem in Old Irish and date back to the 6th or 7th century AD, It was translated into English in the early 1900s and used as a hymn sung to an Irish folk tune called Slane.
Sung at my wife's funeral, still makes me sad
Outstanding ! All the so called professionals out there need to listen to this to learn how it should be sung. Thank you for singing it properly.
AMEN!
@ Michael Boyns I agree. However, although very similar, I think it is only second best to ua-cam.com/video/6AdBkEJurR4/v-deo.html
Check out the version by The Petersons. Very well done. ua-cam.com/video/rwwWMWTpp-U/v-deo.html
As long as God is being glorified, it doesn't matter how its sung.

Weird translation, this isn't the original version

Then what's the original translation? Please tell
@@11marykthe one I’ve heard is similar, just the wording is slightly different. You can find it on any music app or UA-cam.
Bravo! Sung as it should be, by a congregation of people sincere in their beliefs, and not by a self-centred masturbatory soloist.
May God bless you and keep your heart pure and positive
