      and just saying: these shoes were literally invented because of Back to the Future 2 lol otherwise, i doubt Nike would be trying to make these a thing lol they would definitely be a great thing for those who cant tie their own shoes, but i really dont think that was the original purpose of them lol

    I like the smart shoe idea, they have the components to work as a pedometer.
    The charge pad is pretty much two phone chargers attached to a board.
    Needing to attach to a proprietary app, and the data usage, is kind of a bummer.
    The only data the phone should interact with is direct functions, like the lights and fitting, and sensors as raw for use any compatible fitness app.
    Not shady spy stuff for corporations, generally that sort of thing lowers value( like the 'cheap' smart TVs ).

  • @juan501
    @juan501 2 роки тому +5

    They could do some interesting things with future versions such as integrating pressure sensors into the footbed to aid in improving running form and gait. Also they should make the charger a weight scale and switch to a right angle cord or integrate it underneath so it can fit up to a wall. They should also use a pull loop as a switch for fully tightening and loosening them for putting them on and off.

    As a nursing student, I've already had the pleasure of working with patients who have various conditions which would make tying their shoes difficult if not impossible, such as parkinsons or neuropathy. Self lacing shoes such as these in an easy slip on type form factor would be absolutely ideal for people like these. I would love one day see this technology implemented in healthcare setting for these types of patients as an easy way to increase the quality of their lives. For this particular population group, the value of this technology can absolutely be a game changer. The color lights aspect would be awesome for those who take care of easily confused patients. Sadly, those with dementia can sometimes easily become lost, and the light up function of these shoes can help to increase the visibility of their loved ones especially at night. for the right population group, even at 400 dollars, I would have to argue that the added safety and convenience offered would be absolutely worth it, especially if it can be subsidized with insurance due to the quality of life and safety aspect.

    I actually own a pair of these. The app experience is probably an 8 out of 10, but you end up hardly using the app after initial setup. I can control them from my watch, or use voice controls to lace/unlace them. I never use the lights. They do last 2 weeks for me and I just leave the charging pad in my office to charge when absolutely necessary. I did the ultimate test and wore them on a week's vacation to Disneyworld. My feet kinda hurt the first day, but after that I was very comfortable and never felt the need to use different shoes. I did bring back-up walking shoes just in case the experiment went awry. All in all they are excellent shoes for me and I feel taller in them. Probably because I am taller in them.😂

    Fair warning to anyone interested in buying these. I have owned mine just over a year of a similar shoe the BB Adapt 2.0 and one shoe does nothing but flash when trying to charge. So my left shoe is fully loose and wont charge or tighten. My right shoe worked for a month then one day when 100% tight and will not loosen. Contacting Nike resulted in basic steps trying to use the buttons to reset them which did not work. After all of that and about a year of owning them I was given the option to return them for my money back as they do not repair or replace these or the components inside. They only will offer money back if you bought them from Nike and have your receipt. So those who bought from resellers like flightclud are SOL! I can no longer recommend them even though they felt great all day and my shoe looked similar to the Back to the Future II shoes!

    Just so people who aren’t into shoes know, the reason the Air Mags (back to the future shoes) are so expensive, is because they are a very limited pair that were only sold at auction. The auction proceeds all went to Michael J. Fox’s foundation. Can’t remember exactly how many pairs there are, but they’re limited which causes the value to go up obviously. So most of them don’t go up for sale because they were bought by collectors helping support a good cause and getting a very rare shoe. Whenever they do come up for sale, it’s normally from a reseller who buys and sells tons of shoes, or through someone like flightclub where they are a reseller who actually run a real business. And, it’s helps that because they are so popular they can afford to spend $20k on a shoe and sit on it for years at a time if need be. They originally released in 2011 and then again in 2016. 2011 don’t remember how many pairs were sold, but in 2016 only 89 pairs were made. That’s why the price is so absurd.

  • @thumbtak123
    @thumbtak123 2 роки тому +18

    I want the bottom of the shoe to have a replaceable grip. Shoes last about a year if you wear them often. If a shoe breaks, it is usually just the bottom that goes. If that could come off, even with screws, that would make the price a bit more worth it for the average consumer. Maybe making them last two or three years before something else fails.
