Love this channel don't even know half of these producers or there tracks but still really interesting to hear how people were inspired to make them...spiral is one of my all time favourite tracks
Ever since I first heard that track, it was literally imprinted in my brain. Lost the songs name and producer over the years, but never forgot the melody, sometimes randomly humming it not even knowing why. Even today, it still sends shivers down my spine. Was so f*kin happy to rediscover it with the 2015 version! But I still think the original is best, its timeless :)
I remember Armin saying that about Spiral. ASOT Episode 128. Then we went to see Armin spin live at The Quest in Minneapolis in 2003. He closed his set with Spiral and then went into Envio - Time to Say Goodbye. 4 hour set of pure trance, pure energy. I’ll never forget that night. The club was so in sync with him, the flow of the entire set was surreal. The golden era of trance. ❤️💯👍🏻🥂
Envio! Another legendary producer! Would love to do an interview with him as well. He already agreed to it, so whenever he is back in the Netherlands (where I’m based) and if we both have time of course, we will try to make this happen!
Spiral was possibly my favorite track from A State Of Trance 2004! After 1st listen it didn't really stick out in the compilation as one of the gems. I actually in a sense discovered the track years later and thought to myself, "this is totally amazing!" Definitely one of tge Top 100 Trance Tracks Of All Time!
Loved it when I first heard it on the dance floor of Amnesia 2004. Still and prob always will be my fave trance record. Love that loads of other ppl love it as much as us Jeremy.
@@leonardo4569.....that is awesome you were @ Amnesia! Ibiza Im guessing? Ive been to some amazing clubs in the US. haha that's very interesting to hear Robert Nickson also into the synthwave scene. I've been into that scene probably around 2011 shortly before the film Drive came out. I've made friends with some of them along the way too. If you need some suggestions, I'd be glad to forward some of my favorite tracks. But more on topic, I loved Out There and Spiral when they came out. I was curious for Out There, the "5th Dimension" track was the instrumental version that released/produced first or the other way around?
Spiral has been my absolute favorite trance song ever since I was in high school back in 08. Thank you so much for this interview, and thank you Robert for this amazing creation, subscribed ❤️
A very good interview. Great job again. Robert is one of my favorite artists. I am looking forward to his solo album. I have the one he did with Re:Locate and the Armada release of singles collection. It would be great to see him collab with Lowland, Lostly, Orkidea, Craig Connelly, Factor B, Solarstone, The Thrillseekers, Giuseppe Ottaviani etc. I also like his Astrosphere project. Thanks, Twan!
@@robertnickson By the way, I loved your 2015 update of Spiral and am curious to hear your synthwave tunes. I hope to see you in Chicago for a gig in the near future. I have been requesting the local promoters to bring you in.
As a relatively new producer, I can honestly feel his struggles. Uplifting Trance is really hard to make at least for me, but the result is so beautiful when finished.
Thank you so much for sharing all these interviews! Brings back such memories! It's also really interesting to put a face to the names of the producers I was listening to back then. There's only a couple of them I saw perform live.
Thank you so much for this! This was one of the first tracks that got me into trance. Brings a real nostalgic feeling to see Robert talking about the track. Love your channel and what your doing with it! Would be nice to see interviews about Relocate - Waterfall , Agnelli and Nelson - Holding onto nothing too!
Thanks so much Mohamed! Glad you enjoy my channel! Agnelli & Nelson are on the list (will most likely be another track though), but since I live in The Netherlands and since I have no travel budget for these vlogs, I have to wait until one of the guys (or both) would be in the Netherlands for a show or something. So it might take a while, but they are on my wish list for sure ;-)
Omfg pleaseeeeeeeee. @Robert Nickson pleaseeeeee make awesome Synthwave also!!! Trance and Synthwave are my two fav genres, ever. Link up with Miami Nights 1984, aka Michael Corsa Glover
As a long time Reason user, it's amazing to hear Spiral and Out There (too I guess?) were produced with it. Daniel Kandi is the master of Reason 3 though, please do an interview with that man.
I just replied to someone else who requested Daniel (see in the comments). For now I am not really looking for any new suggestions since I have over 50 people on my wish list right now, plus I want to focus on other genres too. I'm picky ;-)
There is no "Reason" to fret anymore. Since now he can soon use Reason 11 as a VST plugged into Logic or whatever DAW he have back there in the background, since it since version 11 will be availible as a VST. Personally however im going from Ableton to the genious Bitwig Studio! Sorry for straying away from the musicicial subjects, onto the more technical. Some of us producers cant help it at its moments.. (Ohhh by the way, i just drank "Plantation Pinapple" Rum tonight. - Tastes like Heaven on Earth !!! You should try it !!! 👍 😄 👍
I would love to do one about this one! But.... Unfortunately it won’t be possible for a while I’m afraid. I made a long post to explain what I can do and what I can’t do at the moment. Please check it out in the “community” section on the front page of my UA-cam channel.

Spiral is an incredible tune. Always one of my favs. The first drop if caught right when mixing is immense

Thank you! And me neither to be honest, but that was before I started to do some research for this interview haha
Me neither... Different chord progressions... Imo.
Robert seems like a really nice guy. Great producer too. Always love these interviews. ❤️
Robert is amazing! And thank you, lots more to come very soon!!
Tks robert, spiral was my first trance Sony ever! Still my favorite one
Another great trance song from the past, somehow the track has the nostalgic feeling and I love it.
Robert's unique sound!!
Thanks for an informative interview about one of my all-time favourite trance tracks (if not #1). Keep it up :)

Such a great track and a cool humble guy too! Thank you for doing the interview Twan (and Robert!!)
Amazing music. Spiral was wrote in Propellerhead Reason :)
Also quite ironic that Robert has the same thoughts as me as maybe doing something live - i was also inspired by what Lostly did on ASOT recently.
Love these interview man, please keep them coming...
