Marc Bolan | Looking Back at His Early Days in Music
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 жов 2021
- By the time Marc Bolan made it really big with T.Rex, Bolan had already been involved in music for years. He played with Helen Shapiro in the early 60s, released two solo singles in the mid-60s and played with John's Children before finally forming Tyrannosaurus Rex. On January 1971, looked back at his early days as a mod and his first steps in music.
Plus, a bonus! Let's take a trip back to 1967 with John's Children, the first of the anti-lust groups!
Yesterday's Papers is my Today's Gem
Thank you for touching on Marc and don't let me stop you for making more on him
Stay safe and healthy.
Great video. Marc's 60s exploits are always a fascination.
0: 25 Love the anecdote that he was disappointed as a child that what he thought was a record by Bill *Hayes* who sang "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" was actually by Bill *Haley* and "Rock Around the Clock." But as soon as he played Haley, Bolan became a rock-and-roll addict.
How a star is born
Best video I've ever seen on the internet. Of course, I admit that Marc Bolan and T-Rex are right up there with my other favorites such as The Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, and Nico. Good music and interesting people.
Excellent thanks.
Great video! Thanks for the education on early Marc.
I never knew Tyrannosaurus Rex were a five-piece electric band BEFORE being a folk duo either. Must've been a pretty brief episode.
johns children
No. From my research, I heard They were a Four-Piece electric band that lasted for one gig. It was Marc, Steve, Ben Cartland & an unknown bassist who suffered from ulcers. I've heard that Ben stuck around thru some of the earliest Tyrannosaurus Rex demos, but left before any albums were released.
what a fabulous channel ...T Rex was my first ever concert. Btw 2Is (coffee bar) is pronounced 2 eyes ...part of the 1950s mural has recently been uncovered and the joint is now a Poppy's fish & chips restaurant. Subscribed
Gracias 🎤🌟✨🎩❤️🎶
Half the vid was more about Johns Children than MB but no complaints. JC with and without Marc made some of the greatest UK freakbeat and powerpop singles of all time
An absolute genius, a true rock star..... MARC BOLAN!!!
Absolutely not
I saw Tyrannosaurus rex a couple of times when they were (what used to be called) an underground band. I must admit I was amazed when they suddenly reappeared as one of the bubble glam bands. I suppose everyone has to make a living though.
Glam? Yes...Bubble? Not really....& I suppose his earlier mod mates were pretty surprised to see him turn into an acoustic strumming hippy. playing the underground clubs.
They were never a bubble glam band. What a ridiculous thing to say. Electric Warrior and the slider in my opinion are two of the most complete rock albums of all time. Not bad for what you disparigingly call a "bubble glam band"

Love Marc Bolan, saw t.rex four times and met Marc twice. Rip boley
“…Boley”?! Ridiculous,
I love Marc, I so wish I was around in the 60s/70s to experience his greatness firsthand ❤
He wasn't great.
His father and his poor eyesight deserves more credit!
What a star Marc Bolan was, great documentary as always
Not really. Just an opportunist, and a poser. No real talent. This documentary should have made that obvious.
Unbelievable! I knew a tad of the history but this was delightful and informative!! Loved this piece! Loved Tyrannosaurs Rex…and subsequent Marc Bolan ventures. Thanks for this vignette!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
best move marc ever done was leaving John's Children
Awesome, I love Marc Bolan! Great video!
Thank you.
So would have loved to seen T Rex and the Damned gigs. Much prefer the glam T Rex.
at 13 photos of mark he was destined for the short life he had same as amy and kurt
Hippie Gumbo was Bolan's third 45 Single on Parlophone.
I have a cd from a demo of Marc playing under the name Toby Tyler. He’s singing blowing in the wind and since we last left Gloria. Probably 65
It was called the 2 i s coffee bar not the 21 it was in old Compton sreet it was Marc's mother who worked in petticoat Lane and latterly Berwick Street Market Marc dad sid worked as a Porter in putney
Andy Ellison went on to form punk new wave band the radio stars Marc spotted Andy running down a London sreet and invited them to appear on his TV show marc
I've got these great box sets from Tyrannosaurus Rex, great stuff!
And the first 2 albums of T-Rex are great too, when he still had that amazing band.
After that it was Marc and anybody, no real band anymore, although he still made some good songs and did these silly, theatrical tv appearances, which you can see on the 'T-Rex On TV' dvd.
He died much too young, he once said in a music program he wouldn't get to be 60 yrs.
And Simon Napiers Bell once said that when Marc was posing for a picture on a beautiful car,
Marc supposedly said "I'm gonna die in a car, but it won't be in a car like this, but in a Mini Cooper", and laughed maniacally when the picture was shoot. You can see that picture in one of the dvd booklets. And we all know he died in a Mini. Maybe this is all a bit... but why not? Even Hendrix supposedly said he wouldn't be 28, and, 'when I go home to Seattle, it will be in a pinewood box.'
PS: I love Yesterday's Papers, you're making amazing videos!
I love the black&white mixed with the bright colours, it always looks amazing!
:) from NL
Thank you!
All the records with Tyrannosaurus Rex is more tha worth listening to.
The music is strange and childish in a loveable way ----
That was great. Thanks 4 posting 🕊
I like the early version of the wizard better than the later one
Same here. I really like the early version of the song. Plus, it features both Jimmy Page and Big Jim Sullivan on guitar.
I love your work!!
Would love to see one video about Syd Barrett's rolling stone interview.
I got "Desdemona" in '67 (German pressing with a great picture sleeve)...Stunning record .
Loved Bolan till "Electric Warrior"; after that lost interest .There's some interesting pictures on the net where he stalked Donovan ; Bolan who professed himself to be totally a-political , was seen in a 1965 protest march with Joan Baez and Donovan against USA and UK foreign policy, where he almost looked Donovan's twin brother .
I think Bolan also loved Syd Barrett and his first wife June Child was one of Syd's ex-girlfriends.
@@YesterdaysPapers June Childs worked for pink Floyd's management that where tne connection would originate
@@barrypotter5751 I didn't know that. Yeah, I suppose that's where the connection originated.
Who is the creator of this video 🤔
Desdemona... John's children backing vocal's
plus Marc wrote it...
I like hippie trovadour Tyrannosaurus Rex a lot more than glam T.Rex
I personally like both eras.
For me John's Children was my fav. Not overkeen on the Glam period even though Telegram Sam was the first record I ever bought.
The Wizard is good though.
John's Children kind of looked like Urge Overkill's dads with the white outfits and gold medallions. Of course the Urge didn't have the clean lifestyle.
You're right, they did have a very similar look. Maybe their look was inspired by John's Children. I know Nash Kato is a huge Marc Bolan fan.
He looks like donny osmond!
That’s nine minutes I won’t be able to get back
Well ken 'it was three minute's for me,i could of boiled an egg
Child poet = child.
I heard him at the fillmore...1970. he wasnt good.

If he was such a nice fella ,can someone tell me why the krays sent two lorry loads of heavies to Stamford hill looking for him .. ? ? I was a eye witness had to hide in a friends flat while they searched the bowling alley and gaming arcade looking for him ?
They just wanted to know where he bought his suit’s and could he teach them how to look 👀 hard!🤔🖕
