@@miked1190 That's with the case, the cases are pretty heavy. Every instrument I've used the cases weigh about the same, if not more than, the instruments. Those Yamaha cases are pretty heavy, I should know because I've used Yamahas.

In Brazil, J'Elle Steiner also make contrabass and subcontrabass saxes. So there is clearly some demand for these monster instruments but they are very, very expensive.
I believe this is a SUB contrabass sax in Bb...very rare. Equally rare are the reeds you need to play this monster. They can be found in the lumber department at either Home Depot or Lowe's.
No, I think this really is *just* a contrabass in Eb. The bottom note he plays is a concert Db1, which is the bottom note on an Eb contra with range down to written Bb.
@@organist1982 well, actually, if you look closely enough, you'll see a contrabass sax resting apparently on its stand just as this performer is entering from the left... the sax we see on its stand thusly is not a bass sax since the upper bend is clearly above head height... in addition, this sax, although it is huge, can still be played freely to the performers side with a neck strap... not so with the beast that thus performer is playing on, making this a subcontrabass saxophone....
That one to me just looks like a regular bass sax sitting on a stand. You can tell when he carries in the contra over his head that it's a larger horn than the one sitting on the stand. Plus if you look at the tubing that leads to the neck and mouth piece going down the left side of the horn, that tubing is definitely longer on the contra that he's carrying in
That sax is so big that if you play a new release, it will be public domain by the time it reaches the bell!

Yes this is an orginal contabass, it was a subcontrabass it would be that tall without the stand, also they're even lower than this as well.
