    THE most underrated album in the Pink Floyd catalog. This is basically The Wall Pt. 2… and is a vital follow up to that masterpiece. Despite all the band consternation and the critical blowback of the time, this is one of Pink Floyd’s best albums.

      @@CrystalShannon4 Ah! "SMiLE" is one of my all-time favorite albums... (Available as "The SMiLE Sessions"... or as "Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE"... Brian Wilson at the peak of his powers. Unfortunately, the ability to get that album across the line fell short... and "Smiley Smile" was the result... it was not the hoped for album... but still worth checking out for the remains of that great album that would take decades to see the light of day. Cheers!

    Atmosphere and emotion. Underrated but masterful. Unless one is above a certain age in Britain (in 1983) it can be hard to wrap one’s head around the theme. I LOVE the machine noises punctuating the rhythm in “Not Now, John”.

    The lovely UA-cam algorithm has led me to your channel. TFC is a bit of a strange album in that it was basically a solo project released under the band's name, yet the members of PF who performed made such a difference - only Gilmour could have got the tone exactly right for the solos on Fletcher Memorial Home and Final Cut. Props to Michael Kamen for the piano and the orchestration, and the sax solo in Gunner's Dream is by none other than Raphael Ravenscroft - he of Baker Street fame. That little motif you mention is also from Comfortably Numb. Loved hearing your thoughts on this, and it's not only inspired me to go and listen to the album again (it's not a PF album I listen to regularly), but I'm now off to binge watch a load of your videos.

  • @Michigan_farmboy
    @Michigan_farmboy 5 місяців тому

    That motif in The Final Cut sends me back to the Comfortably Numb chorus. I know much of this album was written during the Wall time and this was a lot of extra/leftover themes and songs.

    Crystal! So cool you came back around to this. Love Pink Floyd.
    Another progressive rock band I think you would like is Genesis. Their early stuff with Peter Gabriel is more prog rock than the later stuff they did with Phil Collins, but both eras are great.
    There’s a song they did called “Entangled” which I know you’re going to love. One of their most haunting songs.
    Pink Floyd is such an amazing band. They have this very atmospheric sound that always seemed twinged with sadness especially after Syd Barrett left the group. It makes you feel like you’re being transported and floating through a musical instrument. Like being able to travel through a Leslie speaker.

    So stoked to see this album getting a 'proper' reaction. I've listened to it so many times it isn't funny. I've always been a fan of the Roger Waters-era Floyd as he brought more of a punch to the material and sound. This is a highly underrated album and always so satisfying to listen to. Another great analysis, Crystal! I always loved this album, though it felt more like a Roger Waters album. I highly recommend Roger Waters' album The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking (which he did with Eric Clapton. I saw them both do the album live) and his incredible album from 2017, Is This the Life We Really Want, which brought back the old Pink Floyd sound.

    I remember when this record was still on pre-order! Everyone had high hopes after the previous 4 albums. There was a lot of disappointment among fans. But if you compare it to Roger's "Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking", Final Cut is the better record. Thank you for the reaction Crystal. - G

    This is considered to be Roger Waters' first solo album but as a member of the band, he still had all the studio resources of Floyd at his disposal. Waters lyrics in conjuction with the musical talent of the rest of the band gave Floyd their overall vibe, a vibe lacking in mich of Pink Floyd's post Waters era. It is also lacking in his post Floyd era. Much of the Final Cut is more political because in the 80s, Waters became an activist.
    After he left Floyd, the band's future work leaned toward platitudes and feelings.
    It was a good album but it was not really a good Floyd album.
