Hey man, I have listened to the Anti Nowhere league since I was 14, I am now 54 and still love them. Have seen them live a few times and had the pleasure of meeting the singer, Animal. He's a really nice friendly guy. He's not really sexist, song is meant jokingly. Bloody hell I've jumped about and sang every word at gigs, and guess what? I'm female! Ha ha love them! Check out so what and I hate people. Oh and for you. My boyfriend crowd surfed to that one! Enjoy!!!!
The Anti Nowhere League were always very funny. I saw them play in 1982 and 1983 and both times were entertaining. Some people didn't get the joke and the band's first single was banned because of the deliberately offensive and filthy lyrics to the song on the B side "So what". I'd love to see your reaction to that song.
Oh my youth - try their song Animal which is (vaguely) about their singer Nick Culmer (nicknamed Animal). They were what is known as 2nd wave punk that came out around 79/80 and they toured with the likes of The Exploited, Anti-Pasti and Discharge. They also opened for the Dammed around the same time. Their only foray into chartdome was a cover of the folk song Streets of London. They are still going, still great and still hard but just older like all from that generation. Oh and still have an 1980 original ANL t-shirt to go alongside my Exploited, Clash, SLF and GBH shirts which I'll frame if I ever get a man cave 🤔😄😄. Punk's not dead.
I was at the Lyceum in 81 for the Apocalypse Now show. From the moment Animal walked on stage wrapped in chains and swinging an axe, my jaw didn't leave the floor.
@@AndrewMiff162 sorry mate the song in it's ORIGINAL context (the pre-ban version of the album this is from) is about a child molester. The original lyrics replace "I'm your next door neighbour" with "I'm a child molester." and his whining about how "nobody understands him." Also the "I dream of naked ladies leaping over me, I like peeping through holes in public lavatories, Domineering women in thigh-high boots, Tying me up, whipping me!" part of the song is also changed from the original entirely where it goes something like "I like dildos and vibraters, Beasiality, Blow up dollies with a rubber little ring, Fellatio, Necrophillia and masturbation, Peephole knickers, Buggery!" When asked about about it Nick would say it's about all perverts in it's now form so that includes me which is why I said it was partly about Animal.
We are.....the league is a fucking great lp The Blood- false gestures for a devious public is similar lyrically but the music is awesome, it doesn't get enough love.....their megalomania single is a stone cold classic...
I've been listening to the Anti Nowhere League since the mid 80s. I love your reaction. A more serious song by them is "For You". They did one of the best anti drug songs I've ever heard called "Snowman '.

If you enjoyed that, you might like this ua-cam.com/video/xOp9V23LTnE/v-deo.html by northern English band The Macc Lads. This is perhaps the most (in)famous song, which is a tribute to a woman they know who might not totally fit the classic definition of beauty, but they like her anyway. It's called "Sweaty Betty". At one stage they had to do a tour from the back of a truck because they'd been barred from nearly every venue in the country.
Anti Nowhere League: Piggy (the lesson of life), Fucked Up & Wasted, Gypsies Tramps & Thieves, Mother's C, We Will Not Remember You, Burn Em All, and Wreck A Nowhere. All rockin and rotten tracks that will make you LOL.
Nowhere League is probably one of the most creatively and entertainingly offensive bands to ever exist. They're definitely in my top five favorite punk bands after Fear, Bad Brains, Black Flag and The Misfits. What's crazy is that they went from the the raunchiest band of all time to a weird New Wave band in the space of one album. That said, the new wave stuff is kind of interesting. They also eventually went back to their foul roots in 1997 with a REALLY old school punk sounding album called "Scum". It's all worth listening to, but "So What?" and "Animal" are their standout signature songs.
I can't think of a single song by this band that isn't impressive in some way. Most underrated punk band on the other side of the pond. The American equivalent would be a band called Sloppy Seconds. So good. So underrated.

ANWL Streets of London and So What both good. i think you'll like. Also an excellent American band called Fugazi is worth checking out - Suggestion and Waiting Room both ace tracks.
My favourite anti nowhere league song is we will not remember you, also for a good rocker check for you or we are the league, never liked so what, just shock value
Can anyone explain to me why black men all hate rock until they get paid to critique it? Hey if it's genuine then great. I'd recommend faith no more, jizzlobber (lyrics video) so one can discern the poetry from the vocal rhythmic session thrashing. Jah bless.
We’ve discuss this many times on the channel but in a nutshell, most black people are conditioned to believe that rock music is devils music. This is the fault of the church and media. You will find that a majority of black people carry that prejudice without actually hearing rock. Because of reaction videos many are starting to discover this great genre. Hope this helps.
