Dallin and Disney Dan. Although I miss the jingle Dan used to sing for his Magic Candle Company ads - it was so fun! But yeah, Dallin is probably the only UA-camr whose ad breaks I don't actually mind. Caddy/Caddicarus is a close second, but I can't stand the services or "games" he shills for. (If I never heard another fucking ad for Factor/Hello Fresh, World of Tanks, Audible, Genshin Impact, Honey, Established Titles, or RAID: Shadow Legends, I would die happy.)
White UA-camrs that sound like many other white UA-camrs make up for their physical sameness by being funny, they have no choice, the ones that don’t all starve to death in the unforgiving algorithm.
It's really weird as a former cast member seeing where they were planning on putting things. Because when I was there, there was some pretty important infrastructure stuff back there.
I have the best memories of the Disneyland people mover. My brother and I would sneak cigarettes and drink our smuggled California coolers. Galaxy’s edge needed a people mover style ride soooooooooo bad!
i hate how difficult it is to expand in Anaheim because there’s an actual city there. so did Walt, hence how Disney World was built, but i really would love for them to expand more at Disneyland, the only problem is that the businesses and residents already there don’t deserve to have their livelihoods taken away. if only we could go back in time to tell Walt to get some more orange groves. if only.
Walt didn't even know if Disneyland was going to be successful...He didn't buy massive swaths of land in CA because only an idiot would over purchase land based on an idea, that the person had no clue if it was going to even be in operation for a year...They can't expand now because NOBODY in Anaheim wants new Disney anything, they fought to keep Disney from opening a parking garage. They've never been fond of the park, they've never been fond of the noise.... People always have this weird idea that if a company wants to do something or buy something they just do it......When in reality it doesn't work like that, land owners have to want to sell you their land, business owners have to want to sell you their business..The only businesses that get bought out are the ones in financial trouble and on the line of going out of business....
@@lutherheggs451 the only people who complain are Karen's who now sit on 2.6 million dollar homes and live a mile away from Disneyland. They could have sold for a massive profit already. They get no sympathy
They still have room to build something like Disneyquest in Downtown Disney. I truly believe they could build an amazing experience in a small amount of space if they just applied themselves instead of doing the lazy thing
Yeah, honestly that could be great considering Disneyland could now have space for lands like Edison and Liberty Street right next to Main Street, expanding the already established lands as well as potentially adding new ones like Discoveryland or hell, you can move Cars Land and Hollywood Land from California Adventure into Disneyland so the second park can finally use it's space to become Wescott, when it comes to Avengers Campus I think you can still keep it in a corner of the Park cause y'know "The Earth's Mightiest Heroes", but unfortunately as you say by this point in time it's already to late since Anaheim is a already established city and tourist area
When I was a small kid I lived on west st in Anaheim. Our trailer park was right against the back wall of DIsneyland. Got to meet the kid who rode petes dragon in the Main St Elec Parade.
Absolute greatest break of all time. I literally reached for my phone to skip it but it was so entertaining I just watched. Guess that's the point, but in either case, A+ AD.
Dallin, I am thrilled to report that in 13 days I am going to WDW for the first time and I made sure to reserve tickets for Behind The Seeds in Living. I cannot wait. I hope I make you proud.
Eminent domain. It seems Disney Corp was counting on eminent domain to seize the property in Anaheim surrounding Disneyland. The City of Anaheim could legally seize the property, evict the residents and pay homeowners and business owners absolutely nothing. The Supreme Court has ruled that seizing private property is perfectly legal if the government declares that it is for the greater good. Apparently, the City of Anaheim was unwilling to do this.
Finally, more details about Westcot! This is probably the most in-depth Westcot video on UA-cam rn. This makes me even more sad it was never built, imagine having Horizons, Journey Thru InterSpace, and Journey Into Imagination all up and running in California today :')
I can't stop laughing at the weird delusions that Disney was ever some homey, we care company LMFAO....Its even dumber the people who LMFAO actually believe the "Uncle Walt' persona LMFAO.......LMFAO the company who has employees that live in cars LMFAO, the company who was ran by a racist who hated jews, treated his animators like garbage, literally got people blacklisted as communists during the McCarthy era because they were competition.......Walt Disney would LOVE the way Disney is currently ran. 🤣🤣🤣
Oh my goodness - I’ve seen the (thankfully deleted) replies to this comment. I didn’t intend anything offensive; just that the funny parts of your video were funny.
There's so much stuff in the blue-sky concepts that it's hard to imagine fitting it all into the limited space available. I suppose the reality would have been some subset of this.
The Rivers Of Time was Built and exists Today!!! All Disney would have to do is reopen it at Animal Kingdom!!! The exact attraction you described existed in the opening years of Animal Kingdom and was a great albeit lazy, slow, and Hot river attraction!! There were scenes including Beastly Kingdom scattered about and it was a Beautiful way to see the Park from a different view!!! Haven’t been to DAK in a while but you used to be able to see the stand-by docs along the water! I never understood why they removed it, but i always guessed it required too much staffing. The same concept is still available to ride in Japan at Tokyo Disney Sea! Great video! Enjoyed it very much!
Biggest disappointment of the Disney Decade was not realizing Westcot. Going from the promise of Westcot to the reality of California Adventure was like being told you were getting a new Porsche only to get a barely drivable Geo Metro
The video is fantastic, thank you Dallin! I love all the detail, so educational. I was especially entertained by the ad though, I'm so here for the multiversal Dallin hi-jinks. This is the first ad I've watched with glee and attention is a long long time.
a FOURTY MINUTE video about Westcot? Lunch is about to be epic. Calling it now the DCA half of the Disneyland forward expansion could (or rather Should) end up being Westcot
To be honest as much as I enjoy California Adventure, seeing this video of WESTCOT makes me realize that Disneyland Resort could have been so much more. In addition, I remember reading that DisneySea was allegedly meant for Long Beach before going to Tokyo. Just so many Disney missed opportunities.
The worst part about a US-bound DisneySea, aside from redeveloping an underutilized/underdeveloped area of Long Beach that has long since been undesirable due to its proximity to industry, which would mostly be negated thanks to Disney's knack of using themed berms) would be the funds they'd inject into stabilizing and restoring the Queen Mary as a hotel, shopping, and dining district of DisneySea. It really needs a ton of repairs to keep the ship together, even if it hasn't been out to sea in forever it still sits in a pool of water and is bombarded with salty sea air constantly. The interiors outside of visitor's views are decrepit because it honestly takes Disney levels of money to repair/maintain such a ship of that scale (Which is why many ocean liners have understandably been scrapped due to the ongoing costs of maintaining even a near-land locked ship). The Queen Mary would have made for an amazing themed hotel and resort alongside a shopping, dining, and entertainment district in addition to DisneySea as a park. But alas, we do not get that. Disneyland Resort is squeezed by guests because there are only two small parks to service everyone, and the Queen Mary continues to rust and degrade badly from lack of funds.
These days, a view of Disney from outside the park is probably a desirable thing. It's usually nice to have a 'view' of landmarks when living in a city.
I would love to have seen WestCOT become real, but am more interested in the changes and things around it than the actual cloned stuff of EPCOT. WestCOT would have likely been updated to include IPs now with their recent pushes. DCA, even 2.0 and the new Pixar Pier changes, pale in my mind to what could have been (though the grass is always greener). Think how much content could have spawned from comparing WestCOT/EPCOT rides to one another though LOL!
"Epcot certainly needs some south american countries" As a brazilian it makes me very happy to hear this! I find it crazy how we aren't depicted at Epcot except for Zé Carioca and the Brazil Wine Booth
Here in Rome we are finally going to get a second gate in our theme park after 10+ years. In a similar way to Westcot, there was another plan for a second gate in 2016, but in this case the new project is better then the old one.
While even if Disneyland Forward is fully developed and made real, WestCOT was too ambitious then and less of a potential draw now. But I would love a Hong Kong/EPCOT mash-up to be included in any Anaheim expansion. Imagine a Mystic Point/Mystic Manor rethemed from the half HM, half SEA, to an adventure with Figment.
Well, well, well. Here we go again. I saw a display of Westcot back in the day, and it was glorious. I hope they carry this out in the new parks underway.
Okay, I’ve watched the whole thing now. Honestly, I’m glad we got the DCA 1.0 that we got. Hear me out. Clearly, Westcott would have been superior in every way. But in the other hand, there’s just WAY too much takes from Epcot. And Westcott (or is it WestCOT?) is a terrible name. Honestly. They would have gone out of their way to remind us this is a copy of something else instead of something truly new. I’m also just not a huge fan of Epcot (sorry). So from my perspective, getting DCA 1.0 gave Disney the ability to upgrade it under Iger to something I really enjoy now! Westcott would not have been fun for me. Great video. I always really appreciate your incredible attention to detail!
I agree. While DCA 1.0 wasn't great, it gave a lot more opportunity to evolve and improve than WestCOT would have. DCA now days is still evolving and is unique and fun.
Hey Dallin, great video as always! However, I just wanna give a heads up that the volume level of the audio in the video is pretty low compared to some of your other videos. My bf and I love watching your vids out loud but for this one we had to turn our speakers way way higher than we do watching pretty much anything else. Still, great job!
It's actually hilarious to see Michael Eisner saying that he wanted to respect French culture while referring to Euro Disney. That line did not age well. Lol
I like the idea of some landscaping in the esplanade but realistically they need to keep it pretty empty to accommodate the crowds. The entry lines for DL and DCA sometimes get so long they nearly meet in the middle. Its also really easy to lose your party when it's even moderately crowded. So, yeaaahhh. Anyone know where to get a donut at DCA?
Timekeeper started off in Disneyland Paris and was filmed throughout Europe so that’s why it would make sense to feature in the European area. Loved that show!
The "Spacestation Earth" that would have been larger than Spaceship Earth would have been cool though. along with the proposed "boat ride around the world."
WATER FEATURES ! I hope you were old enough to get to visit the fountain show at the Disneyland hotel bank in the day - it was awesome and free if you were waiting on your annual pass renewal - my pass always lapsed by a month or two because I was broke so I hung out at the hotel in the 90s😂
Greenery may not be practical or environmentally friendly for California. It rains soooo much in Florida so green is fine but from what I understand this isn't the case for Aneheim.
This is off topic but the blue skies idea of adding coco behind big thunder is not so smart in my opinion. Instead they should add the western river expedition in that plot of land.
I wanted this so much ;-;. I like CA but man this seems so much more interesting. I've been to Epcot once when I went to Orlando a few years ago and it was definitely interesting :3. I'd like to go again without going to Orlando tho. ;P this would've been a nice alternative perhaps. So sad.
It was really sad to hear the cancelation of WestCot because the concept art and idea was so good. I think it would have been more of a success than the opening of California Adventure and tbh if Disney really wanted to build and invest in this new theme park they would first solved the finaster disaster with what was happening with the international parks first and then when continue the WestCot project rather than building California Adventure.
You might love water features, but you know California Nevada and Arizona are in a drought of epic proportions the last 10 years. IMO they should pave over the boardwalk and lake there and build new attractions, it's a giant waste of space for something costing Californians precious resources. Go to the effing beach 10 miles away if you want to go the boardwalk.
I am a fan of keeping each resort unique from the other. Yes, I shutter at Florida getting Tron. Copying the entire EPCOT to California would have been too narrow-minded.
Westcot wouldn’t have been a bad idea if they did entirely original countries separate from Epcot. Thinking about Spain, Brazil, Australia, India. Spain would have a smaller version of the Basilica, Brazil would have a hill with the iconic statue overlooking the pavilion, Australia a mini sydney opera house on a waterfront, India a mini version of the Taj Mahal. Spain would have a museum and shops inside of the “basilica”, Brazil a splash mountain type ride built inside its hill that concludes with hitting a “surf wave” at the beach, Australia a concert theater in its Sydney Opera House that has special live performances, and an Outback Jungle Cruise style but with a jeep trek ride, a similar ride engine to Indiana Jones, then in India a dark ride that takes you through Buddhist culture and the history of India. Foods include a Tapas and Wine restaurant in Spain, Acai bowls and a steakhouse in Brazil, seafood restaurant in Australia, and an Indian cuisine restaurant in India
While these are all original attractions with their countries, you know you’ll have to throw an ip in there, so they should add Colombia as well, with their main draw being a giant Encanto house. The Encanto house is big enough to hold a ride that takes you through most of the rooms in the house, holds a restaurant inspired by the mother’s cooking, and an interactive talk to animals for children in the little brothers room
Given what became of Epcot, it was probably for the best that Westcot never built. It would have suffered all the same problems of now if not worse since the park wouldn't have a lot of corporate synergy. I am also not a fan of Disneyland Forward being a hodge-podge of squeezed in clone attractions.
Your ad breaks alone are more entertaining than about twenty Disney/theme park channels I can think of.

I heard a rumor that Disney was looking to build WESTCOT in Long Beach and Los Alamitos.
Please tell me you've seen the holiday overlay for Living With the Land. If you haven't, I have pics from this week. :D
Given what became of Epcot, it was probably for the best that Westcot never built. It would have suffered all the same problems of now if not worse since the park wouldn't have a lot of corporate synergy. I am also not a fan of Disneyland Forward being a hodge-podge of squeezed in clone attractions.
This. Expansion looks to be the Grand Hotel site they imploded 10 years ago.
