2013 F150 Console/Shift Knob Removal & Cleaning

- I accidentally spilled some coffee onto my center console in my 2013 F150, and it got all mucked up and was making noises whenever I shifted. So I decided since there are no videos out there of people doing this for this particular truck i would attempt to make a video. I'm no pro, I just didn't want to pay hundreds to have someone detail it.
Sorry if the videos long, its my first video I have ever edited. I don't really have a good attention span so this was not easy to do.
I normally don’t watch these one handed videos but I watched yours. Thank you for making it. My shifter is sluggish right at the drive point and back. Not all of the time. It just started.
Thanks for showing me that I really don't want to take mine apart...but I will if it means avoiding a dealer bill. Great video.
9 years later....
You are still a lifesaver! Thank you for your time and abilities!
TYVM sir...the gift that keeps on giving after 6 years...Kudos to you sir!
You are the man. The main reason I watched your video was because I replaced the gear shifter for my a Navigator with a Ford F-150 shifter, as these break and Ford quite making them despite making them new only 8 years ago. I wanted to retain the leather handle and not the crappy plastic fake wood it came with on the F-150. Your video was the only one I could find that demonstrated this (and how to clean it properly).
Great video. Helped me replace my shifter (14$) after the tow/haul button broke. I especially appreciate that early in the video you list the tools needed including the torx bit sizes. You made an easy job of something that appeared daunting. Thank you!
Thanks! The dealer quoted us 2.5 - 4 hours (and over $300) to replace the selector cover and this video made it a cinch.
Dude, same situation and I also needed to replace my ELD/4WD knob. Couldn’t have done it without this video. Excellent step by step and camera work
Thank you for this video. I had an issue with my 2012 F150 where the Dash lights stayed on all day and all night. I bought the part t fix it but had no idea how to go about it. This part is attached to the shift knob and every time you put your truck into Park it turns the exit lights on in your dash. The switch went bad and so the lights stayed on past the 30 or 45 second timer. It took six weeks and several dead batteries before I found the solution. Thanks to you I was able to disassemble the center console, find the matching part, disconnect it, install the new part and put it all back together. BTW, it was pretty dirty in there without spilling coffee. Thanks again
Brian, I having the same issue now. Is this the part you replaced BL3Z-7210-CA ??
I'm honest not trying to deal with ford dealership horse crap
Great instructions. I too search all over and finally found you video. I need to replace my shifter after the Tow/Haul button broke off. This gives me exactly what I need! Thanks for posting!
Jeeeeza Christ, finally someone has a video on getting this out of there truck…. Thanks….
Great video! Thanks for adding. I had to replace the chrome part of the shift knob handle because it had begun peeling and chipping away. After watching I was able to swap the part out in 10 min.
Great video! Changed the shifter on my 2010 F150 Lariat and it went without a hitch. Never would have guessed how to do it without this,
Thanks my friend… it made my shifting module replacement so much easier! I really appreciate your time to share.
Very helpful video, thank you. Like others that have provided comments, I also had an issue where the chrome coating was bubbling off my OEM shifter. I bought another one on eBay for ~$40. If you're just replacing the shifter, you don't have to remove the entire center console assembly. Just remove the front piece (around the shifter with cup holders), it just pops right up. As shown in the video you can simple remove the 2 torx screws in the shifter, pop up the black piece around the shifter assy, disconnect the wires and replace the shifter piece. It took less than 15 minutes.
I'm replacing my shifter head as soon as the replacement arrives. This video will be a great help. Thank you for taking the time to make this. Well done!
I wish my 2012 had the USB connections in the console like yours. I might try to run the iPod cable below the console to clean things up a bit.
Still after all these years, great video, thanks for posting this. I just got a 2011 Raptor and the chrome is peeling on top of the knob. This will make replacement pretty painless.
Thanks so much for posting this video. We spilled 2 Coca-colas in the console of our 2010 F150. The shifter was sticking every time we moved it. I had my laptop in the garage and followed your instructions, step by step. I cleaned every part that I possibly could, and now it works without sticking! I wouldn't have attempted this without seeing your video. Really appreciate you taking the time to share it!!! Thank you!
no problem. glad i could help
Thank you for taking the time to run us thru this procedure. It helped me emensly
Thank you for this video. Gave me the confidence to tackle my shift cable bushing project.
Thank u for the video ur the only one that uploaded this kind of video it helped me allot
Thank you so much for posting this. I had to replace the shift lever cover in my Expedition and your video was very helpful!
Thanks for this! Wanting to install my Ham radio in my new (to me) 2012 F-150 and this was exactly what I needed. Great detail!
Just want to add great video! This truly helped me replace figure out how to take out and replace the shifter bezel.
Thank you for taking the time to record this. It helped me out a lot.
I didn't spill anything on my truck, but those leather pads are worn on my 2010 f150. I've been trying to see if I can change them myself somehow but didn't know if they came off or if they were one piece, Thank You so much! Its a great video.
Thank you for posting this video. You made my situation way easier than I imagined.
I am upgrading my entire console including the shift knob. Thanks, great info
This is a great video, thank you so much. My teim piece in the middle of the shifter broke. I was able to disassemble and repair the shifter
Can't thank you enough.....Spilled coffee in mine also. All cleaned up now!!!
An Awesome video, It worked for me. Coin went inside the gearbox and after seeing your video i was able to remove the coin.
You are better man for it bud! Thank you for helping us F150 owners out.
Your video worked great for me, I just added a double USB charging port for the back passengers, very detailed. Now to mount my train horn switches.
Thanks had a customer need a shifter replaced he couldn’t remove the truck key in park. I hate tearing up a dash with these clip on pieces. videos like these are a must if you haven’t done the job before! Even though this was one of the easiest it’s still worth the watch. 👍👍
Thank you for sharing this! I have to disassemble mt 2013 console. Now I can save 100s replacing my shift lock switch. Great video
Thanks for the video, needed to replace the plastic trim piece that goes to the floor and your video saved me some time!! Well made, thanks for the effort.
Great Video, exactly what I needed to fix the shifter problem I was having. Thanks!
Tank you! You saved me a lot of time and frustration. Your video was VERY well done!
Excellent, thorough video! Thanks, saved me loads of time and, no doubt, many errors.
Thank you! So complex instructions! I resolve my issue! 👍
Thanks a lot for that video! Just what I needed! You rock
Awsome work. Now I can wrap that silver center part to match the rest of my interior.
This video helped me a lot. Thanks. My reason was to use the USB port to power a dash cam. The USB does not deliver enough power for that.
This was awesome - thank you for taking the time to make it
Thanks for the video! I spilled an air freshener on the shift bezel and it ate through the paint and ruined the lettering and clear portion which shows which gear your in. Now, I just gotta find the black plastic piece...thanks again, what a relief, I thought I was gonna have to pull the whole console.
what year and model of your F-150
2014 FX4
video was very helpful I'm needing to replace the gear selector and dealership is wanting to charge over 600 for parts and labor
Great detailed video. Will save me a trip to the dealer. Thanks
Thank you for your video Sir! This is exactly what I needed. I appreciate it
i had the same problem with my car and i was so damn mad about it , so Thank You very much brother that was so helpfull to me 👍👍👍
Thanks for clear and detailed video.. really, amazing and so helpful..
Cheers to you sir! Now I have no excuse not to clean my spilled coffee.
Thanks for this video, my dumb ass did the same exact thing and dropped my entire cup of coffee. Needless to say this video was a lot of help exactly what i needed.
Hey no problem. Your welcome
Great video! Thanks for posting. I spilled an entire milkshake down into mine, and this video really helped!
Glad it could help. My next video will be a mirror glass replacement, because a rock chip flew from my mower and cracked the driverside mirror.
After watching your video I was able to change out the shift indicator piece in my 2015 Expedtion. Cleaning chemicals had completely disintegrated the sliding cover piece. The new one comes installed in the plastic housing with the lights and light harness attached for just over $30 which I considered a bargain. Whole job took no more than 15 minutes and no scratches or damaged plastic parts in the process.
I have a 2016 expedition and the slider is also disintegrating....where did you purchase a new one?
@@latinprincews6 you can get the part from Tasca Parts .com in Cranston, RI . You can see which part in their online parts diagrams and order away. Good luck.
@@frankelly8482 it looks like tasca calls it a selector cover...which includes that plastic 'slider' ... FL1Z-7D443-AA ... is that what you purchased?
@@latinprincews6 yes, unfortunately you cannot just buy the plastic piece but the available piece is not too expensive considering everything.
Great video!! Very detailed! Thank you!!
Exactly what I needed to know, thank you
A very big thank you Sir !!
THANKS MAN !!! this is great add !
Thank you for doing this!
Thanks, just what I needed!
Thanks man for uploading this!
+Alex Vice Thanks for watching :)
Thank you so much for sharing. Helped me a lot!
topstar3 glad i could help
Many thanks for your informative video . Nabeel from Kuwait. 👍
Awesome! Thanks for posting this. This was a big help.
Keith Thanks for watching, I am new to this whole UA-cam scene, but i figure since no one else had this type of video i would do it. If you guys have any requests let me know i will see if I can accommodate, my next project will be a 1996 ford explorer engine.
I have a Ford Expedition which the console looks similar I lost my payroll card in the tiny crease between the dash and console so thank you
Great video, thanks for sharing. I'm wondering about the 2015 with the leather around the shifter? Wondering if I can change to the bezel with the APA/ Lane departure button?
Very good video. Thanks
Very very good video thank you very much for your knowledge really helpful
Thank you for sharing this video.
Thanks for the video, definitely helped!
great video! it helped me alot
Nice video. Well documented. Helped me out big time after my son shoved a dime down the shifter.
+Ryan O'Neil Lol I know how that is My son does that too. But I have managed to always stopped him before that happened lol.
Loose change is a killer on these assemblies. My wife dropped change in the shifter and a piece of plastic broke causing it to shift intermittently. This guys video was a life saver.
Great video! Very clear on all the steps. I have a 2011 F150 and wasn't sure if I had lights or not under the shift indicator. I thought I did but was't sure and your video confirms I should have 2 of them and mine must be burnt out. From you video it looks like just removing that first main piece might give me access to them but I guess I will find out soon enough. They look like bulb #194 if I'm not mistaken. Did you notice if there is enough room to access those 2 bulb sockets with just that first section removed? Thanks again
Great Video! Thank you
Thanks for uploading.
+Tariq Al Abdul Jabbar Thanks for watching :)
Great video, thanks. I need to get to the 12v to 110v inverter unit which I've been told is forward of the shifter and at the base of the centre dash. In your opinion would I go in from the shifter as you have done, or can you point me at the inverter?
Thx a lot bro great job! If you can do it with one hand I like my chances with two while I watch 🍻
Great tutorial!
Nice video, thanks.
thankx for the video ... did helpe a lot
thank you
Do any of you guys know what kind of bulbs are underneath the shifter for the gear indicator to light up? I know on 2004-2008 they are T10 bulbs but I don't know about the 2009-2014. Thanks please help!
Thank you😃
Thank u very much very helpful bro god bless.
Do you have a video on how to repace the shift indocator bulb
You are a lifesaver! Spelled sweet tea all over it… did you just wash the plastic parts in warm soapy water?
Thanks for the vid.
Not sure if there is an easy way to get the large silver plastic piece on? Those two front clips were tough.
Awesome job! Thanks! I managed to spill Gatorade and need to do exactly the same, i.e. remove the console and clean. Thanks again!!!
Thanks!
Do have to do all this to change the bulb? I have a 07 expedition and I assume it's the same process. It took forever to find this video. I haven't finished watching the video yet.
Where exactly is the switch that controls the instrument cluster lights, is it on the rt side of the shifter?
video is good. my problem is that the shifter will not go into park enough that it'll let my ignition know to let my key go. so of course. my issue is removing the key...all the lights (R, N, D, M, 2, 1)light up orange but NOT the "P" when shifting . im right about 90k. thanks
Well done, just maybe you have moved up to the pro class. You get my vote, a big help
there Help but some conectors very hard to get out for the caramel of soda on it
Is that a cup holder insert you have there or is that stock on that year?
WOW good job, How do I get the rear cig lighter out to replace the plastic cover that broke?
I did not get that far into the truck sorry. but if i have to replace that I will make a video
Great job can't thank you enough! How did you learn how to do this?
just got tired of it being sticky and decided open it up. figured i will be keeping this truck until it dies so i might as well be comfortable working on it
See my image. Anyone seen this clip during this disassembly? I have no idea where it came from but seems to be from the shifter selector pieces.
Thanks for the video by any chance do you have a video showing where is the airbag module ? Somebody said it's under the console
After you removed the console lid and bezel did you have access to the 12volt and AC plug on the back side of the console? Thanks!
Jeremy O'Brien I don't remember having access to it or not.
