They may have improved the defence at least on paper and the goal tending is still questionable and finally a core four who have proven for 8 years they cannot play in the playoffs , this team will finish 3 rd and lose early in the playoffs. I have been watching this team and organization since 1962+- and seen them win four cups. It takes great goaltending, solid defense, a positive pressuring offence, momentum and luck. I don’t see this here? Cut the hype and egos and play the game as a team, quit referring to the core for ,it is a TEAM EFFORT.

Lol, Not a chance. This team has gotten out of the first round once in 20 years. Their core 4 disappear when it matters the most, Matthews, Marner and Tavares have 0 goals in game 7's and between the 3 of them they have 2 goals in games 5, 6 and 7's. One goalie who has played less then 50 games in the NHL and has been injury prone at every level of his career and the other guy who has been a career back up. Their D always lets them down, OEL is on the downside of his career who looked better in Florida due to who he played for and with, Tanev is slow and on the back end of his career too. To top it off this team never finds a way to win but they always finds a way to blow it. For anyone who thinks having a coach thats won a Cup makes a difference, Only once in the entire history of the NHL has a coach won a Cup with one team abd then went on to win a Cup with another team and that one coach is a guy that is on a whole other level then any other coach ever, Scotty Bowman

No, because the Leafs core 4 or 5 are not as good or as competitive. Further, the Leafs are way more screwed on the cap than Wash was. You just have to look at it objectively.
Kuznetsov won the cup in his 4th season. Carlson's first season was 6 years into Ovechkin's career. You'll have to find another talking point to copy because this one doesnt make sense. Good luck because there's never been a team that is as stubborn and inept as the Leafs.
My prediction. JT will re-sign for $4 - $5 million - 2-3 years. MM $10mm 4-5 years. MM is a set up man. Not a top goal scorer. Unless they use him the way Hyman is used on EDM.. I do agree MM needs to perform better in the playoffs and this is what the Leafs are looking for. Otherwise, they may let him go at free agency. But they have invested in him, and yes, under Berube we need to see how he performs.
He’s massively skilled, but he’s not going to win pucks on the forecheck like Hyman. He avoids physical spots. He’s a zone entry passer. He’s way different than Hyman.

The Leafs improved their D but I still don’t think it is as good as Boston’s D . Bruins will have a full year of Lohrei and Peeke . Zadarov is an upgrade over Grzelick . The Leafs might have a little more top end talent with their top 6 but it’s usually a wash when the playoffs start . Is Matthews better than Pasta in the playoffs? Not really. Bruins could still use another top 6 forward but Lindholm will help immensely. Add Swayman and I still think the Bruins are a little better than Toronto.
There are no extensions coming until after playoffs, the leafs need to be able to walk away on tavares and mitch if the same result happens. Neither are waving for a trade and any loss we might feel if they are let go, is directed square on dubas.
