FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME
Why is it important for you to love the game that you play? In this video, we're going to talk about how love can play a big part in an athlete's journey. Love of the game is a powerful force that fuels athletes' passions, dreams, and aspirations to play at the collegiate level, or a youth athlete playing at the highest level they can in high school, or playing on a good AAU team, or college athletes wanting to play professionally. Having those dreams and aspirations is what sports are all about.
Athletes, you remember when you were first starting out in your sport or watching your first game, getting your first jersey of an athlete that you were a fan of. That's where the passion was, and that's what fueled the love for you to go down this journey. With the landscape the way it is, I see a lot of athletes that are struggling with their mindset and confidence, but they also are losing the love of a sport that they sacrificed a lot and had dreams and aspirations and they don't know what direction to go in. And that is what's taking their love away.
I also feel that with the landscape the way it is, from the youth to the high school, it is getting obviously more competitive, but it's getting more of a business, just like a High school with the NIL in certain states. Everybody's worrying about the marketing and branding of an athlete after say the seventh and eighth-grade level, all the way into high school, where maybe they can lose track of the love, but always making sure you have that love and passion for it, you are going to play at the highest level you can play.
And the next one is sacrifice and commitment. Athletes, you are going to be sacrificing a lot of time, from the youth level all the way to high school & College. It's those early morning workouts, late night practices, traveling on the weekends with your AAU, club teams, seven-on-seven events, camps. It's also missing some of your social gatherings with your friends, and it's all that. It's also being committed to your development, committing to your skillset, committing to improving, committing to your academics, committing to what you're trying to get to. But athletes, understand this also. Your family is also committing a lot of time. And from the youth all the way to the high school level, they're committing a lot of money for you to achieve your aspirations and goals. So, athletes, I want you to think of that as you're going through this process. And athletes, the love is important. When you're sacrificing all this time, your families are sacrificing, and if you're committed, you will be able to enjoy this journey that you'll be going on.
And the last one is the journey. From the youth level, all the way to the collegiate level, each stage brings up different obstacles. There'll be different successes, there'll be different failures, there'll be setbacks. But if you can push through the adversity and still love this sport, you'll be able to play at the highest level you possibly can play. Through the years we've seen hundreds of athletes who loved the sport, who committed and sacrificed a lot, and at certain points of their journey, they were questioning if they loved it or not. Maybe they were coming off an injury, maybe they weren't playing well, maybe they got cut from a team, but they loved it and still worked hard, committed, and pushed through it. And then there were athletes that I have seen that did not love it, and they weren't as committed as the athletes that were loving the sport and pushing through. And when adversity hits, it is hard for them to push through it in this journey.
