I had already noticed since season 1. I had no idea why (I didn't read the manga), but when I watched this episode, I finally figured out the reason after 5 years. I got very surprised.

One thing to note: Sabito didn't just kill almost every demon on the mountain, he killed EVERY SINGLE ONE besides the hand demon, which was a demon that had grown far stronger than what should have been. Another reason was because Sabito had killed so many demons, his blade had become weaker, which was also why it broke.
Essentially, Sabito was on another level
Let's not go THAT far. Other people would still have survived/won with a broken blade. But yeah he was very strong for his age.
He was probably fighting for a long time before the hand demon. Maybe he would have won against the hand demon if he was at full power.

There are several people in the work who were able to fight even after their swords were broken, but all of these episodes were after they became “slayers” (defeated a number of demons). The experience is different. I would like to remind you of what happened when Sumijiro made it to the final selection.
The final selection was the first real battle and everyone was so busy protecting themselves that they could not afford to protect everyone else.
As the fans of the original story say, “He could have defeated the hand demons if only he hadn't worn out his sword,” he was definitely strong and could afford to protect “everyone” even though it was his first battle.
Had he lived, he would have been as strong as a Hashira.
At his age, he was not stronger than tanjiro as tanjiro defeated the hand demon himself but still he was pretty strong
After seeing Giyu’s backstory, I’ll never see the very first episode of Demon Slayer the same way again. Giyu’s words to Tanjiro and Giyu’s actions after seeing Nezuko protect her brother are so much more meaningful now. I respect Giyu so much!

You're absolutely right about how good and how important these conversations are. None of the battles mean anything without knowing and caring about the people involved. This is peak storytelling.
Exactly but as anime is getting more and more famous. These new watchers only want to see action and fight. Show them a bit of a story and they will say the show is bad. I literally saw a comment on Instagram saying "I heard there's no fights this season so I won't be watching it"

I’m pretty sure Giyuu is the third strongest hashira and he’s pretty close to Sanemi and he’s stronger than Mitsuri in physical strength. He’s faster than every other hashira besides Sanemi and Gyomei. He’s a GOAT!!!

I love it when in demon slayer they mentions rengoku and also adds his theme a bit. Small thing but absolutly amazing!
This episode exists as a slap to everyone claiming that animation carries this show. It elevates it, adds spice to it, is the icing to the cake, but not what makes the show beautiful. It's the extremely human moments like these.

Then I guess it should have been kind of show to not have battles but human problems only. Animation carries the battles and aside of that, there is only this kind of moments that imo still feel kind of cheap. Battle moments ALWAYS have that plot help for Tanjiro to unlock something we've never seen. Aside from animation, battles in this show aren't even close to something like jjk
anime guru's always see's the plot as mid cause its too simple for them. but that's how the demon slayer was popular because of its simple to understand story and very relatable characters.

People say DS is only fighting. But I liked this episode more than many fighting episode.
this show is like 70% fighting, 20% filler "funny" conversations and 10% plot. not a fan of it
IKR the conversations are needed! those who wants just actions are lame they just wants the pretty graphic scenes
One of the things i love about demon slayers are the backstories and how beautiful they are made. After you see the backstories you can really understand why the characters are like they are

It's dumb that people criticize some scenes of the show or even the story and writing, but ufotable is literally just bringing the story to life through an anime and did not write about 95% of the show, and they are going off of the Manga.

People tend to forget that Giyu was the entire reason why Tanjiro wanted to kill Muzan/cure nezuko in the first place.
I definitely agree. One of the challenges of shonen is to deliver the story through conversations and not just full on battle sprinkled with back story in between. A dedicated chapter or episode for conversations feels like a cool afternoon tea time that we need in DS. I am excited for the next episode!

Side note: Giyu’s still depressed it’s just that Tanjiro was able to get him to lock in and focus on the impending battle that’s to come. All Tanjiro did was make him feel better and feel less lonely, then sabito made him realize the value of life etc. It was at the end of the story that his depression was gone.

Amazing that they extended giyu's past a little more on this episode cause it felt so short and set aside on the manga, hope they do that more on the other episodes too

Basically, Sabito had almost the same potential if not equal to Muichiro, the only reason he died to the last demon, was because his sword was near broken with all the demons he killed, if he had encounter that demon anytime before, he would have easily killed it, The demon he died to was literally the last demon in that forest, while he killed all of the other demons
Also having Sabito somehow survived would have truly made the story shorter, He was one of the op character that just had to die for the story to progress and people still have the audacity to say its story has plot holes
Am I the only one who kept sobbing whenever Giyuu showed up on screen? I've reread the entire series multiple times so I know the context and hidden symbolism with the characters... its way too good

You couldn’t be more right about conversation and stories. It’s important for the character to have built more detailed relationships. Those who only want action scenes are just attention deficit child who cannot focus on the meaning of conversations.

Sabito couldn't slice the hand demons head off because he was exhausted after having spent days running around the mountain saving everyone, it all makes sense now, since he was so friggin strong it didn't originally make sense why his sword just broke like that and why he couldn't dodge the hit in time
