Interesting similarity between Giyu and Shinobu in this episode is regarding the haori they're wearing. This episode reveals that Giyu wears Sabito and his sister's haori in memory of them, which is something that Shinobu also does by wearing Kanae's haori, which she adjusts shortly when she appears in this episode, like the animators tried to point it out.

Your take on Shinobu is brilliant. Without spoiling anything, it's a very good take considering there's not much that the anime has shown about her yet. Also, I should point out that Shinobu did apologize to Giyu for what she said. And to be fair, she was in battle mode and saw Nezuko as potential danger to a demon slayer and Hashira, which of course, she couldn't possibly know. From what we can tell so far, the Hashira don't really know about each others' pasts. They more or less only see each other as colleagues. Like yes they respect and look out for each other, but they lack that closeness that you can develop from friendship. All of them really went through severe trauma and loss, besides Mitsuri (and Renguko to an extent), which is possibly how they are considered the friendliest and social Hashira.
Quite a few of them are really close and do know of each other's back story. It depends on each Hashira and their relationship with each other. Also I'll say that Mitsuri and Rengoku both had severe trauma just like the rest of the Hashira, but it just doesn't involve much loss.

I love the relationship between Amane and Oyakata-sama... It's never mentioned in the anime, but in the manga we learn that their wedding was arranged... But Oyakata-sama was polite enough to give her the choice - if she didn't want to marry him, he would claim that HE doesn't want to marry her to protect her...

Great discussion as always! Small note: Shinazugawa is their family name, so both brothers are Shinazugawa! You guys already have Genya down; when referring to the older brother you'd use Sanemi (sahn-em-mee) to be most specific. The "Shinazu" part of their name is also a negative form of the verb "shinu" meaning "to die," so Shinazu means "without death/undying." That's why Genya laughing manically and proclaiming his full name to Upper Four after sustaining seemingly fatal wounds last season was a kind of mic drop moment for Japanese viewers.
Shinazugawa means "immortal river". And Sanemi name means " fruit or truth" . So the truth is Sanemi is like a immortal river which both gentle like river current and chaotic like a river during flood.
Out of all the hashira - Shinobu is the closest to Giyu. She teases him just to help him react and open up a bit more (and it works , cos he speaks with her the most). They've gone on missions together too and have a little manga of their own. Genuinely love the duo !
I feel like I need to point something out, for anybody who thinks this was solved too simply, or via "Talk no jutsu" or something. Tanjiro DID NOT solve this just by saying one sentence, which magically fixed Giyu's depression. That's not what happened. Giyu already knew everything in order to fix himself, Tanjiro literally reminded him of something that Sabito told him in the past. So Giyu had all of the memories and perspectives necessary to believe in himself. Except, since season 1, we've seen Giyu be a loner. Usually it's played for comedy, but it's there. He's disliked by everyone, but he also isolates himself, he never interacts with people more than he needs to. Giyu refuses friendship or companionship every chance he gets. If Giyu let any other Hashira get close to him, this exact same conversation would've happened, anyone would have said what Tanjiro did. Tanjiro's unique way of solving the problem, beyond "Talk no jutsu", was being persistent. He was so annoyingly, positively clingy that he forced Giyu to interact with him. That's the unique part. Nobody else but Tanjiro was willing to break down that initial shell that got Giyu talking. Once he persisted enough, everything was already solved. This was the first time Giyu let himself open up about the past, because beforehand, he was so shut-off with himself that he wouldn't think about why he did what he did. This is an actual, real character flaw of Giyu, and an interesting one, which was explored for a long time, and gets elaborated on even later in the story (we're not done with him just because we got his backstory). He's so obsessed with being angry and disappointed with himself, that he managed to stave off an easy resolution to his depression, just through isolation and stubbornness. It's like a self-destructive thing.

Almost any of the Hashira would've SAID what Tanjiro did, but not DO what Tanjiro did, there's a difference. That whole thing about carrying on Sabito's will, several others would've told Giyu the same thing if prompted. Shinobu lives to carry on her sisters will, and Tengen lives to carry on the will of his dead brothers, etc. So they would've had the same perspective. By that metric, it's not like Tanjiro fixed things with some perfect talk-no-jutsu. But like you and I both said, none of the Hashira stayed and listened to Giyu. Tanjiro bothered Giyu for days, until he was forced to talk to him. None of the other Hashira were the types to do that, and since Giyu is so self-isolating, he never gave anyone the chance to "stay and listen". Like Ubuyashiki said, Giyu tends to put himself in a negative state of mind. He was too closed-off to make conversation easy, and none of the Hashira were going to take the hard route. That's what Tanjiro did that was unique. Tanjiro's words and perspectives were good, but they were things Giyu was already aware of, they were something many others would have told him. But unlike anyone else, Tanjiro stayed with Giyu and didn't give up on him.

Remember the season 1 when they brought Tanjiro for the first time in front of all hashiras? Giyu stand alone away from other hashiras. This is all make sense then....he feel he wasn't worthy, while the others think he's weird and arrogant
Hard to remember this far back, but in the first season, Shinobu said she hates demons, she hates them with her entire being and has dedicated her life to ending them all. Now Ubayashiki has told her to work with a demon (keep in mind, Shinobu knows nothing about Tamayo except that she's a demon). Wouldn't that be enough to upset Shinobu?

Tanjiro and Giyu have such a beautiful sibling relationship. Tanjiro learned so much from his encounter with Giyu and episode 1 and he's matured so much now. And now Tanjiro uses what he has learned to save Giyu. They each saved each other in times of need and at their lowest. A true bond. 😁
Tanjiro will understand your pain, even if he does not say a word. Just like the person in season in one who lost his most important person on Tanjiro's first misson. An honest, but bittersweet moment will let you know Tanjiro felt the depth of your emotion too.

I also love how Giyuu is slapped by the words of the late Sabito and regains his composure. He imagines how Shinobu Kocho would call out to him if she were the sister he knows, and imagines her saying harsh words like "You're immature" to him, and is inspired by that, but regains his composure even though he's a little angry. Just like Kiribashira, everyone is always talking to someone in their hearts.
Yushiro was turned into a demon by Tamayo so he couldn't be the one who had killed Kanae, Tamayo could be a possibility as she said in S1, she through experiments turned off Muzans control in her body..so before that I am sure she must have eaten human
Tamayo didn't kill any hashira because if she had then the master of demon slayer never would have invited her in the 1st place to his mansion where he is bedridden and venerable.

since you mentioned Makomo before the reaction, the thing about Sabito and Makomo that gets kinda glossed over. they never knew one another, they were simply students of Urokodaki at different times. it's been awhile since I read the manga by the time S1E3-E4 originally came out, but I believe the anime kind of blurs the reason we saw them both in the flashback since it IS an anime original scene. the manga never shows their deaths like the anime did as it's kind of made to make us think both Sabito and Makomo fought and were killed by the Hand Demon. when in reality, the demon only mentions them as the 2 strongest slayers he fought since being trapped in the forest. Makomo was likely more recent as opposed to Sabito who was killed about 7 years prior to Tanjirou's fight as he would be about 8 when Giyu and Sabito were 13. so Makomo could have been one of Urokodaki's last students after Giyu passed and before he finds Tanjirou.
No one recognized not just sabito but murata (the guy with tanjiro when facing rui) take care of giyu until the end of final selection😢 Also Fun fact about Murata he has same age/period with giyu and took part in final selection with him.. Murata was all alone after demons killed his family, so he joined the Demon Slayer Corps. He uses Water Breathing, but he's so weak that he can't see any water. He said i work so hard don't call me weak😢 (Note) Besides Urokodaki, there are other trainers who teach Water Breathing. Water Breathing is easy for beginners, so more swordsmen use it than any other style of breathing.
something interesting I remembered is that the 2 times we've seen douma eating humans, they were all women so bens theory of maybe douma being shinobu's sisters killer is interesting.
Also demon slayer story is very simple. Very simple . Its a story about siblings,demon vs slayer and sacrifice.. So any complicated things that you think regarding this story will surely be incorrect as author wanted to make this story as a emotionally driven story

Demons get stronger in direct proportion to the number of humans they eat, so if Tamayo has truly forsworn eating humans for a long period of time, I don’t think she’d be close to comparable to an upper rank in combat power.

Tanjiro and Giyu have such a beautiful sibling relationship. Tanjiro learned so much from his encounter with Giyu and episode 1 and he's matured so much now. And now Tanjiro uses what he has learned to save Giyu. They each saved each other in times of need and at their lowest. A true bond. 😁
Godddd I love that Tanjiro brings his permanent Oldest Brother energy and in his relationship with Giyuu it immediately becomes a Little Brother buoy

I also love how Giyuu is slapped by the words of the late Sabito and regains his composure. He imagines how Shinobu Kocho would call out to him if she were the sister he knows, and imagines her saying harsh words like "You're immature" to him, and is inspired by that, but regains his composure even though he's a little angry. Just like Kiribashira, everyone is always talking to someone in their hearts.

Yushiro was turned into a demon by Tamayo so he couldn't be the one who had killed Kanae, Tamayo could be a possibility as she said in S1, she through experiments turned off Muzans control in her body..so before that I am sure she must have eaten human

Tamayo didn't kill any hashira because if she had then the master of demon slayer never would have invited her in the 1st place to his mansion where he is bedridden and venerable.
plus she is not capable enough to kill a hashira as her BDA is not made for combat.

3) Nisemonogatari - 11 eps.;

II) SECOND SEASON:
5) Monogatari 2nd Season - 9 eps. (Ep. 1 to 9) (which includes Nekomonogatari White and Kabukimonogatari);
6) Hanamonogatari - 5 eps.;
7) Monogatari 2nd Season - 14 eps. (Ep. 10 to 23) (which includes Otorimonogatari, Onimonogatari, and Koimonogatari);
III) FINAL SEASON:
8) Tsukimonogatari - 4 eps.

since you mentioned Makomo before the reaction, the thing about Sabito and Makomo that gets kinda glossed over. they never knew one another, they were simply students of Urokodaki at different times. it's been awhile since I read the manga by the time S1E3-E4 originally came out, but I believe the anime kind of blurs the reason we saw them both in the flashback since it IS an anime original scene. the manga never shows their deaths like the anime did as it's kind of made to make us think both Sabito and Makomo fought and were killed by the Hand Demon. when in reality, the demon only mentions them as the 2 strongest slayers he fought since being trapped in the forest. Makomo was likely more recent as opposed to Sabito who was killed about 7 years prior to Tanjirou's fight as he would be about 8 when Giyu and Sabito were 13. so Makomo could have been one of Urokodaki's last students after Giyu passed and before he finds Tanjirou.

Also Fun fact about Murata he has same age/period with giyu and took part in final selection with him..
Murata was all alone after demons killed his family, so he joined the Demon Slayer Corps. He uses Water Breathing, but he's so weak that he can't see any water. He said i work so hard don't call me weak😢
(Note) Besides Urokodaki, there are other trainers who teach Water Breathing. Water Breathing is easy for beginners, so more swordsmen use it than any other style of breathing.

Is it just me or did they change this from the Manga. In the Manga I think Giyu asks Tajiro how he knew that name etc? Am I misrepresenting. If not I am kind of upset they changed it.
