In 1981 there was no such thing as "Family Day". We were cut loose on a 72 hour pass and told to show up sober in three days for transport to AIT.

Can you do a video on what to bring with you to AIT? Can you bring your tv, laptop etc? Also what about wifi on base?
My memory might be off but in Fort Jackson in 1996, I remember doing Graduation Rehearsal in the morning and meeting our families in the evening. We had a company dinner with all the families and a few hours to go around post. That night, the Drill Sergent Broke out all the confiscated cookies, candy, etc that came in the mail throughout basic and lets us go to town on them.
Fyi, at Fort Leonard Wood, there was a warrior PT in early am around 0530 to 0630. Then at 0900, family had brief in do and don't for family day while soldiers were on concrete slab in formation. After, our soldier's were released. They had to return by 2000.
Right after graduation, they were put in buses and sent to St. Louis airport to go to various duty stations.
Please, families and friends, do a run through of buildings and sites the night before just so you know where you're going.
My soldier wanted to get food from PX and then to our hotel to cool out.
That was OSUT 12B,btw.
I went to MEPS today (FINALLY) stayed in the hotel yesterday which was awesome. Did the whole physical and passed with flying colors, then waited for so.. very.. long.. and long story short I am now enlisted in the US Army as a 25U!! (20,000$ bonus!) When I ship out, I go to Ft Jackson!

Is there a break in training for 11B? My son is going to basic att Ft. Benning. OSUT. Bos training will be 22,weeks, not counting reception.
@@blitznone1142 There isn't, you go straight from the BCT portion of OSUT to the AIT portion and then to your unit. They have to request leave when they are at their first unit before they can visit you. You get some time during family day to hang out, but that's about it.

At the end of this month they will allow families back at graduation starting with Ft Jackson. Then, two weeks into May they will allow all bases to have ceremonies. My graduation date is May 27th - June 13th. I’m at Ft Lwood, MO. I am currently in quarantine. I will update this with more details as I get them. (if I have my phone)
a friend of mines son graduated in 2020 before covid we were both looking forward to his family coming for basic training graduation not just because of him graduating but I also had not seen my friend in several years and he was going to drive up to see me after his sons graduation before they went back home unfortunately since they didnt allow family at graduation that didnt happen.
They did different at Fort Leonard Wood. I was able to spend the night with my family. I did back by the barracks by sometime in the morning. And then we all got shipped off to are AIT. Then we got to my Advanced individual training company. We got our linen issue then our weekend Liberty. Amanda ceremony inside with Hulu movies then all of us marching up on stage and our names being announced and everything like that. They got videos on UA-cam about graduation that certain bases
Yeah no way you can stay out overnight nowadays! Lol that’s one privilege that used to be in the military that isn’t anymore. It’s super strict on that kind of thing now.
When and how do we tell our loved ones when our BCT graduation is. If they are out of state?

Tank Abbott, I been reading up on the whole situation and it’s saying I wouldn’t be able to join with just a GED. It’s saying I need some sort of college credits as well and the chances of me being accepted will increase dramatically. Without that chances are I won’t be accepted, any thoughts on my situation?
Covid Basic: You get your phones for 3 hours on Personal Day and on Graduation you get smoked after the depressing ass ceremony and get a 3 minute phone call saying you made it. Then you stay at your basic location for extra month picking weeds, moving wall lockers from one floor to another and getting smoked everyday

As of right now with Covid there is no family day or leaving post for anything until you complete training. Once you're there you belong to Uncle Sam until you complete training

noncoms retirement ceremonies will often happen during basic training graduations my uncle retired from ft benning and they held his during im guessing the last class he was involved with. My mom and I drove down for it because we dont live that far away just 3 hours

So, my son is OSUT, for Cavs, he gets 3 days F-S-S, off base, no overnights off base.

Alexander Garner My fiance is in OSUT for infantry and turning blue is a day before graduation, at least for him it is. I don't know if it's different for other infantry companies in basic training at Fort Benning.

I just came back from family day today. The liberty wasn't anything like he said it was for my son's unit. Must be different depending on the DI's and the battalion commanders I guess.
And that's why I say it depends on your unit.. haha
After Graduation, I am supposed to transport my solider to AIT. Do they get to leave with me the night of graduation or the next morning?

Country Boy777 Depends on how long you do it for. If you do it for 2 years you will earn E2 before you ship out, but if you do it for 3-4 years then you will become an E3 before you ship out.

I recommend you do whatever job that you wanna do. They will teach you what you need for weapons training
Doesnt matter what mos you pick you will learn about weapons cause at the end of the day we all foot soliders :)

You can look online for the scores but just take some practice tests and if you don’t do well enough the first time you can retake it next month

Why do letters take so long getting to soldiers in basic training? I've sent 6 and he had not received any as of a letter from him at the first of this week. Just wondering if that's part of the training, to withhold mail a while. Thanks.
Mary McReynolds It took my husband until he was almost out of red phase to receive my letters. After that, the drill sergeants went to mail room and then they got mail call weekly!
Mary McReynolds Because when someone is in reception they dont have a return address so most mail gets lost , they read the letters just like jail and if it has any news or something that can affect a soliders training they may not give those out . Sometimes basic is so busy and someone may be to tired to even want to write back . I didnt write no one . But i did keep a journal and wrote in it everyday and gave it to my parents on family day ..
