Golf Grip Pressure (Sensors Prove What Happens When You Swing)

  • Not too long ago I did a tip about golf grip pressure throughout your swing. To do this, I used a grip that beeps if you grip on too hard. After I posted the tip, a gentleman contacted me from Sensor Edge. They make the best sensors in the world. They are used by Swing Catalyst, Full Swing etc.
    He laughed at my beeping grip because they have created the world's first sensor for the grip that measures the pressure in your left or top hand. Your right or trail hand too. This has never been done before.
    He just happened to be coming to town so we got together. I was able to hit shots and measure my grip pressure as well as have him answer questions that few people know about what actually happens with your grip pressure as you swing.
    This is a long tip but in my mind it's very important because if you want to play better golf it all starts with your grip.
    They have recently figured out a way to put their sensors in a golf grip. These sensors can These sensors are used by high end fitters, tour pros and long drivers.

    Pretty cool to see numerical data that supports what you figured out when you changed to the body swing you've developed. Your tip on neutral grip ( thumbs placement) which promotes wrist hinge through the swing proves that the body turn is truly the power source, not the arms. Excellent vid Paul.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  9 місяців тому

      For sure. I was glad he came to town and showed it to me. Few people have ever seen this data. No one can get away from the fact that as the club changes direction you grip on to 100% + it's by the time you get to about hip high what are you going to do? You better lighten up so the club can release. If not, you won't allow the face to square. This is what most average players are doing so they typically slight and don't hit it very far. Glad you see it's the body not the arms. Keep at it.

      So this is the big part of how I got it after literally 10 years of working on it. I coil and set the top. At this moment in no way do I pull the club down with the hands. I fire my lower body. As the club is approaching impact I do not help the club hit the ball in any way. Instead, I just let it go. Here are 2 recent tips describing what I felt when I got it:

      @@paulwilsongolfMany thanks Paul I really am going to try and practice this away from the range as I feel I stuck into just beating golf balls otherwise.
      Do you think it’s an issue if you have a slightly flatter swing ? I can see you swing pretty upright, would a flatter swing be an issue with your technique?
      Many thanks again Paul
      Much appreciated

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  9 місяців тому +1

      Very good. I keep telling everyone daily practice swings are the way to get it. The ball is the problem. No ball means no hitting with arms so you can actually make the changes then add balls later. Slightly flatter is fine. Just don't go under the shoulder plane. Yes, you can do my swing with a flatter plane for sure. Flatter would have you leaning towards a draw. Don't get it hooking too much and you will be fine.

      Thanks so much. I appreciate the support. Yes, you are out for now. Once you get back into it start off with slow, easy swings. Just keep watching and understanding it then do practice swings at home. Not being able to hit the ball is going to be a huge advantage for you. Build the swing then add the ball once you are able to.

    I have noticed that in an effort to get an effortless swing, I am easing off the grip pressure so much that the club is feeling loose in my lead wrist. This was causing my lead wrist to cup heavily in the takeaway. I'll try to make the grip pressure a bit stronger but at the same time keep my wrists loose. It's a bit difficult to be honest but I guess I have to keep working at it.

    Paul,
    I am a very keen average golfer on a 15 handicap, aged 65. I have got down to a 9 in the past.
    I watch a lot of UA-cam Golf and have been watching your channel on and off for years.
    Recently however I decided to take up Jim Venetos’ unusual method as I was surprised how well it went standing closed and keeping the body quiet until after impact.
    However, while pretty consistent, it limits how far I hit the ball, particularly my woods.
    Your method seems diametrically opposite to Jim’s method in the use of the body, but I’m interested in trying it out, mainly to get more distance.
    It intrigues me how two methods could be so different and yet both appear to have merit!
    Can you give me any reasons to commit to your method other than “give it a try and see how it goes”??
    Potential student Pete

      I just watched a couple of his swings. This is very close to stack and tilt. Weight left and keep it there. Strong grip is not my cup of tea. If you have loose wrists and a strong grip you will snap it left so then you need locked wrists. Why I teach loose wrists is so you have power for life. You don't need to be strong to be loose. Also, you can see that move hampers his shoulder coil. He has great lag and maintains it well coming down. The average person is whacking away with their arms so they have no lag and are just basically hitting it with their arms (which will never work). My teaching is based on Iron Byron. If IB did that it would never work. They would need to aim the machine way right to get it to hook back into the fairway. This is 2 flaws. 2 flaws and you have to practice a lot to time them. My technique is also simple. You have the arm unit and the body. You also have to keep the tilt but that is related to hitting. I have been teaching my swing since 1991 and know the results I get. If you want to follow along that's great. If you want to do his that's great too. Just find someone and stick with them. Following too many people will be too confusing.

      I takes work. You want a secure grip with loose wrists. Keep in mind as the club moves beyond vertical coming down my pressure lights a little in the left hand and my right really lightens as I don't want to hit it with this hand.
