    Who doesn't love puppies? You are one busy guy. Full time job, a wife, children, horses, sheep, lots of dogs, and lots of projects. You must be full of energy and yet you seem so relaxed.

    Hi I just had to comment on this. I am a retired veterinary nurse and have spent my life trying to help and adopting as many 'street' animals as I could and would also hate to see the working breeds coming in to the vets that were bogged down with behaviour problems and health problems related to going stir crazy at not having an occupation and a true role model. Sounds like I should be saluting rescues and decrying your view. I salute you totally. Proper responsible breeding with a true understanding of a breed character and behaviour for the purpose of a working dog, instead of the insane quest to mishapen dogs endlessly for the sake of vanity should be the true calling of breeders in a perfect world. Animal welfare groups are invaluable at what they do but they do tend to get lost in their own views on who should be allowed to own animals, which doesn't help. Sensible pet ownership like yours is a true model of the perfect balance. Your farm is truly a paradise for the animals lucky enough to be there. It's what I like to envision my personal heaven would be. Your family certainly brings some joy into my sheltered little life and I thank you for it.

    Totally agree with you about dogs and knowing their lineage. You get what you put into them. I know some rescues can be excellent but some can turn on their rescuer. The best dog I ever had I got at five weeks (I was a kid) but she had a great bloodline and I trusted her with anything. Saved me twice from venomous snakes, once from a man trespassing in our woods and would curl up and lick a tiny chick like it was her baby!

    What is most important when breeding in my opinion is that the dog's go to very good homes where they will well cared for and loved. The whole do not breed stigma comes from the fact that SO many unwanted animals end up in shelters or dumped/ abandoned. You are breeding for purpose and there is a big difference. It's your life and dogs are a big part of it and you are responsible. Not trying to just turn a profit like the shameful puppy mill businesses.

    • @allycat29
      @allycat29 Місяць тому

      Yes and he cares about their health and genetics, puppy mill dogs have severe health problems and genetic deformities and have not been messed with and will have mental issues for the most part. What is sad is that compared to what life was like years ago where people were able to spend and work with their dogs and was able to give their dogs a job and helped their owners, now alot of people in big cities that have an office job will get a dog like a border collie and they start getting behavior issues because the dog has so much energy and is not being worked and trained and so they end up taking them to the shelter because they can't handle them. I always tell people to please research the type of dog they want and what it's needs are. My uncle bred Labs but I always ended up doing rescue and found some good dogs for what I was wanting that way. I have helped some people what to look for when going to the shelter for a dog, kind of like what JR does with the auctions, there are good dogs there, you just need to be able to pick out the best energy for you, still look at breed types if you can tell, and will still have to have a lot of forgiveness amd patience because it is still a wild card because you don't know their breed 100% or what they have been through

      Awesome video. My dad had beagals. He would go hunting for Rabbits. He ate them. He cooked them an made gravy . Stuck them in the gravy an cooked them some more. Same with squirrels. You have beautiful dogs. I had Scottish terriors for most of my adult life. The last one l said no more. Couldn't take losing them. My one friend always ask me to babysit her dogs. JR animals seem to know when people are good. Your animals are given the best care. Those puppy's just too cute.

    This was wonderful to see and hear about! I had no idea that you had so many dogs! Some dogs from the pound are pure bred, or close to it, though, and some dogs when rescued have proven themselves to be the most well-behaved, wonderful pets, but I agree that if you have a specific need, going to a reputable breeder is best. It's just the back-yard breeders that need to be put out of business.

      But also consider this: Real Breeders will always take back a dog they bred-no matter its age. They will be there to advise and guide you throughout that dog's life, as well. "Purebred" does not necessarily mean "well bred". You would rarely find a Real Breeder's dog in a shelter or rescue. What you find there are the product of the "puppy producers" who only breed for money. They won't take that dog back for any reason. They count on shelters and rescues to clean up their mess. Many people will buy a dog from these producers and get lied to about the breed's temperament, training and upkeep. Pretty soon, you have an adolescent dog that is out of control and matted to the bone. Into the shelter they go and then some kind person goes in there to clean up after a bad breeder and a first owner who got in over their head due to that bad breeder. Then, the cycle continues. You won't find purpose bred, well bred dogs in the shelter. If you get lucky, you can find a good dog there, but you won't know until you already have it home.
      I have seen shelters and rescues send dogs out with bite histories to families with small children. I have seen them ship dangerous dogs to other areas to adopt out because they do not believe that any dog should be euthanized, even if it has killed a person.
      No one can guarantee exactly who a puppy will grow up to be. But Real Breeders are the only ones who can even come close.

      I wish I could give you a 💯 🌟's. I foster, and so many people just grab a dog. They don't think about breed stats or even how they fit in their lives.

    • @bh1264
      @bh1264 10 місяців тому

      @@bonnieharris8855I have also seen shelters & rescues doing the same unethical crap💩that you spoke of here! Places that do those things are contributing to the problems with 'BREED-SPECIFIC' BANS, PREJUDICE, HATE, HURT, INJURY, HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOGS 'PUT DOWN' EVERY YEAR IN AMERICA ALONE, etc. It just is not right to do the things that unethical 'backyard breeders' are doing due to their own personal GREED! I think THEY are the ones who need to be put down, along with every backyard breeder that can be found & animal abuser!
      I also agree with your sentiment for the most part about finding a 'good dog' at a reputable shelter or rescue but for the most part they are few & far between. Sadly, nearly every dog who ends up in a shelter or rescue has suffered some form of trauma &/or abuse in the hands of the wrong people, uninformed people, inexperienced people, or people who fell prey to those greedy backyard breeders or unethical staff in some shelters & rescues.
      No doubt that any person who is kind & generous enough to open their hearts & homes to a shelter or rescue dog is usually in for the long haul. Which can be made infinitely much easier, more productive, beneficially more effective to the entire re-habilitation process for both dogs & people with the utilization of honest, ethical, knowledgeable, experienced trainers & canine behaviorists!
      AS WELL AS INFINITE PATIENCE & LOVE FOR YOUR CHOSEN CANINE PARTNERS! NEVER GIVE UP ON THEM🐕THEY WOULD NEVER GIVE UP ON YOU!🥰

    The difference is you’re a responsible breeder with a purpose.

    • @hawaiibound.
      @hawaiibound. 3 місяці тому

      There is no such thing as a responsible breeder. Get it straight. Only irresponsible pet owners don't get their pets spayed and neutered!
      Having your pet spayed or neutered will help decrease the number of animals in need of shelter. There are far too many animals out there without adequate loving homes to go to.
      Millions of cats and dogs end up in shelters every year. The majority of dogs euthanized every year are of the Pitbull breed. More than 359,000 dogs were euthanized in 2023. Meanwhile, 330,000 cats were also euthanized last year.
      Spaying your kitten when she is 3 to 6 months old will virtually eliminate the risk that she will develop mammary cancer when she's older. Additionally, spaying your kitten prevents many different infections and cancers that occur in the uterus and ovaries.
      Neutered dogs also don’t develop testicular cancer, which is common in older dogs who haven't been neutered. They also have a lower risk of pancreatic cancer, and their life expectancy is increased up to 18% longer.
      Animal Shelter Euthanasia Statistics:
      In animal shelters, 56% of dogs and 71% of cats admitted are euthanized.
      Every year, around 920,000 shelter animals get euthanized.
      Around 2.4 million animals euthanized in shelters were healthy and could’ve been saved and adopted.
      Out of all the animals that get euthanized in animal shelters every year, around 530,000 of them are cats.
      Out of all the animals that get euthanized in animal shelters every year, around 390,000 of them are dogs.
      Only 52% of U.S.A. animal shelters are no-kill shelters, but even no-kill shelters are not entirely no-kill; such shelters can still euthanize 10% of their population.
      So please stop contributing to the pet overpopulation, people! 😡

    Oh, wonderful - finally we get a closer look at your dogs. ❤
    No problem with breeding, here... and no problem with adoption. I have done both, in my life (edit: adopted and bought from responsible breeders... I just realised it read as if I breed dogs myself. Family of mine does, but I personally never did), and both ways have their pros and cons.
    If you want or need a dog for a special purpose, a close look at a) the breed and b) the bloodlines is a good way of minimising surprises. Plain and simple.

    Great video! Love all the dogs & pups!
    Thanks for talking sense about careful breeding. There are many reasons why a rescue won't work for every situation.

    Adorable! I love all the dogs & the puppies. I think Bear has the sweetest face! I adopted cats & love them very much, but I would love a dog too! My cats have a different opinion on that! 😂

    Such nice puppies. Your family is one of the more responsible dog owner/breeders. You do it with forethought and kindness. More power to you. 😊

    Loved this! I'm glad you explained why breeding is okay. Everyone thinks my Mini Aussie is a cross because her ears did not drop. They assume she was a rescue. When I say no, she is pure and was a gift from a breeder friend of mine, they look down their noses at me. It's crazy!!! I wanted a specific breed. I know her full bloodline back 7 generations to the standard female on her father's side! She is not perfect and therefore is spayed. She is from a line bred for agility. She doesn't have that drive so she is a pet. (She is still a handful, even at 9 years old!) I've known some wonderful rescue dogs, but I've seen even more that were nightmares. I want to know where my animals come from. Horses, cattle, dogs and to some extent even cats. I only have a cat and dog at the moment.
    Although my cat was a rescue from off the street - his grandmother, mother, and aunts all lived under our house and the house next door. I trapped his mother and 2 aunts and got them spayed and released. They all had one litter within 2 weeks of each other. I trapped them all, gentled the kittens, spayed/nuetered them and found them good homes.

    Love your dogs. Breeding is everything to keep dogs healthy and sound minded. Your sheep dogs would be miserable inside. They are living their best dog life ever. So are all of your animals. I love dogs and horses. Love your videos and can’t wait for the next one.

    I am late to this video. I grew up with a boxer, irish setter and miniature schnauzer. All different. All bred for specific purposes. All bought as puppies from responsible breeders. All followed their natural instincts, but were family pets. All had been around farm animals. Great animals.
    My mother grew up with a border collie. She never had any type of formal training. She was very capable of herding the dairy and beef cows. Very intelligent, but still very much a family dog. Her daughter Teddy had no herding instinct at all. She just became a family dog. To each, their own.
    Great video.

    I love border collies. My horse was at an equine farm owned by a man I went to school with who was very instrumental in my life. He introduced me to my husband. He took him fishing in Canada so my husband bought a boat to fish, the he bought a house on a big lake in Wisconsin. And I keep my horse at his farm. He was a horse vet, so my horse was in good hands. He had a border collie and I fell in love with her I told my friend if she ever had puppies I would like one. I got my first border collie, but I didn’t know anything about them. I don’t think if I knew how active they were I would have got one. Had to learn how to give him something to do. I found out never do any thing two days in a row because then they want to do it every day. We had lots of things we did everyday. I hate to say it,but border collies are the greatest pets there is. You have to do things within them. Give them a lot of work to do even if the work isn’t necessary. I just to have him sort out my husband’s Sox into black and white Sox’s even though I put them all in the same draw. Did a lot of things like that. Really un needed but my dog had to do them every day. It was his work. He would pick up things that were not in the right place and put them in a basket so I could put them away properly. You just have to give them a lot of attention and things to do. I to old to have dogs and horses so your channel gives me a lot of happy times.

      And backyard breeders. They're not AS deeply evil, but it's still very wrong. And it's a huge part of the reason why there are many hundreds of healthy young dogs euthanized everyday in N America.

    Love those Rat Terriers they are called feists also. My ratty used to hide behind a bush across the street when he didn’t want to come inside and I could see him peeking through the bush. He though I could not see him right up until I walked around to him.

    I LOVED this video! All of your animals are so loved! I will just add for JR and sort of echo Emery on the subject. YES. Some animal Activists go too far on their activism. Some good intentions and some misguided ideas. Responsible owners and breeders for purpose and jobs are completely acceptable! I applaud your purpose and selectiveness as well as thoughtful and intentional placement of your animals of all breeds. THAT is how it should be done. Being an actual 'city slicker' in my geography, I see so many dogs bred, sold, abused and dumped in our country. This is where the activists need to focus mainly. Of course some of the worst puppy mills are back in the rural areas. Love you guys!
