I recommend creating a folder for each video you're working on and creating a new library for each video to put in said folder. You can create a template folder to stick on your desktop and drag it on to your external drive when you create new videos, rename it and such. When you've finished a video you can drag that entire folder to wherever you're archiving it and start the process again. I figured this out after I had more than 10 videos in the same library and it confused me and looked messy. It comes down to preference ultimately and what works best for you. Hope this helps any users of FCPX.
@Emefa Erika I am using the Samsung T7! It's very speedy. amzn.to/3boBZii I don't recommend the Lacie for editing off of because I don't think the read/write speeds are fast enough for it especially if working with 4K footage but I think they are great hard drives to store projects on once they are completed.
I use Adobe Premiere pro, before i had Filmora. Even with Filmora that was a paid product, nothing to do with Premiere. I'm sorry but professional editing apps like final cut and Premiere are a must.
One of my favorite features in Final Cut Pro is you can hit "R" on your keyboard, select a portion of your clip, then hit delete... so easy for cutting out your breaths/pauses instead of using the blade tool!!! That sped up my editing time so much!

Totally agree, the $300 is worth it, especially considering it's a one time cost and all the upgrades are free. Other NLE's, like Adobe Premiere, charge a subscription fee. Tip: Buy iTunes gift cards when the go on sale at Costco to save a couple bucks on Final Cut. $300 in itunes cards cost me $240 ($100 itunes card on sale for $80). Every little bit helps! Great video!
Another tip, don't edit from an external hard drive. It so much slower than working from the computers drive as it's limited by the connection. Just use the external hard drive to back up your files to and then remove from your computer when needed
I think Final Cut Pro is the best editing software for how much it costs. I use Premiere, but it's literally eating away at my wallet every single month, But I feel like I'm way too invested in Premiere to switch lol.

A life saving tip for me in FCPX, is copying and pasting the attributes of a clip to other clips. For example, if I already cut clips up and then realized I wanted to bring the volume down on ALL clips, you can change one, then do command+c, and then highlight the clips you want to paste to, and to paste do command+option+v. Boom! You can even choose what attributes you want to copy/paste. You want to adjust exposure and then copy that to another clip? Yup, you can do that too! It's a game changer. Also, I see you're using a Lacie drive, which is a reputable brand, great stuff, however I'd suggest using a Samsung T5 or T7. An SSD will be much much faster than the Lacie drives. However, if it works for you than you do you!

Expectations are a beeatch. Seriously $300 is peanuts and well worth it. Da Vinci is free but $300 for the hood version and premier is $600+ a year.
I've been trying to migrate from using iMovie on my phone to edit, to using another software on my laptop, but 've been experiencing such a learning curve that I find myself going back to edit on my phone. I really have to take the learning seriously and get a good grasp of laptop editing, to speed up my editing process.
If you have a Mac practice by editing using iMovie on the computer it will help you learn controls for computer editing. I recommend deleting your video editing app on your phone so you are forced to edit on the computer. I was like this with animation I kept wanting to use flipaclip and struggled switching to adobe animate.
Thanks for the overview. But I didn’t really see anything that I can’t do with iMovie except to have more than one clip overlay the main video (something you can’t do in iMovie without exporting multiple times). I’m sure there are other things Final Cut can do that iMovie can’t. That would be good to show.
Cathrin Which would you choose from these according to your experience on them a] iMovie b] Final Cut Pro c] Premier Pro [ I think you can try it out ]
Have you tried Da Vinci Resolve? I'm using the free version and I have no complaints so far. I don't know anything about color correction or anything like that .. I just do basic editing.
Premiere is completely decent, can be abit complex but good enough, i would recommend Davinci Resolve if you want to really make changes and make your vids not look Normie.
Apparently I've done something wrong with final cut pro because it has saved everything multiple times amd now my 3500$ macbook pro wont even get on the internet pr open a video, help I don't know what to do
SO THANKFUL FOR THIS VIDEO! I have been editing on iMovie for the past year but actually got FCP a few months ago AND STILL haven't used it because I haven't learned the software just yet/didn't know if it was completely worth it to make the switch!
Thanks for an honest review/tutorial without "reading off the box" like too many other videos, or getting too technical. I just want to drop Adobe. They charge $636 a year for the bundle with video software. I'm only paying for the photo package so far, and even that takes forever to get updates and fixes. They had the developer tools two years before the M1 came out, and the only M1 software they had on launch was Lightroom. They were supposed to launch Photoshop for iPad with the first iPad Pro, and even had assistance from Apple. But they still didn't release it until the 3rd or 4th generation of the iPad Pro... Not acceptable Paying $350 once for Final Cut and Motion is far better than $636 a year for casuals like me.

@@100colorpencils6 Okay, that's a nice trick right there. I'd try that. Thank you very much.
"touch computer pad" HA!! Adorable!!! 😂💗
Thanks for the overview. But I didn’t really see anything that I can’t do with iMovie except to have more than one clip overlay the main video (something you can’t do in iMovie without exporting multiple times). I’m sure there are other things Final Cut can do that iMovie can’t. That would be good to show.
Cathrin Which would you choose from these according to your experience on them
a] iMovie
b] Final Cut Pro
c] Premier Pro [ I think you can try it out ]
Final Cut just because I haven't tried Premier Pro!
@@CathrinManning Oh!!, so even I gotta try Final Cut Pro, haha, it seems pretty fun and easier
Have you tried Da Vinci Resolve? I'm using the free version and I have no complaints so far. I don't know anything about color correction or anything like that .. I just do basic editing.
This was very helpful. THANK YOU! I'm currently working on a video where I give you credit for helpful UA-cam tips. You're amazing!
I love my adome premiere pro. I have android and windows.
Premiere is completely decent, can be abit complex but good enough, i would recommend Davinci Resolve if you want to really make changes and make your vids not look Normie.
Thank you Cathrin!!!👍
Apparently I've done something wrong with final cut pro because it has saved everything multiple times amd now my 3500$ macbook pro wont even get on the internet pr open a video, help I don't know what to do
When you posted this I watched it even though I wasn’t using fcp,but I am back now after upgrading.
Too much caffeine ... wow
Hey Catherin I don't know why but I am losing subscribers consistently
I have been using final cut pro since the very beginning, I am a huge fan! I couldn't do without it! 😆😍😂
SO THANKFUL FOR THIS VIDEO!
I have been editing on iMovie for the past year but actually got FCP a few months ago AND STILL haven't used it because I haven't learned the software just yet/didn't know if it was completely worth it to make the switch!
Great information! I'm not using Final Cut Pro but this video seduces me to switch 👍✨
this is very helpful 🤍
This was so helpful!!!🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️Thank you!!!
Not acceptable
Paying $350 once for Final Cut and Motion is far better than $636 a year for casuals like me.
