In what world are you being taxed 60% in the uk
@@mackenziecumming9107there isn’t a 60% bracket. There is a 50% one at over £125k roughly
@mackenziecumming9107 if you earn over 150k your tax is 45% plus NI which was 12% before 150k and then 2% thereafter. Is roughly 60% I suppose lol.
@@jackrogers1115 that’s not how tax brackets work. You don’t pay 45 % on all your earnings, only the gains after that £150,000 mark( the marks actually changed from 150k to anything over 125,140 for this fiscal year). Then the money they earn between the 20% bracket they pay 20% on, and whatever money they earn on the 40% bracket they pay 40% on. Let’s use your example of someone earning over 150k, let’s say 170k to be fair. They’re paying £70,703 (including national insurance payments) in tax for one fiscal year, which is still a lot however it isn’t 60% of their income, in fact it’s only 42% when rounded to 2 sf.
Edit: This example is relevant to the old tax bracket. It’s also assuming you don’t use any way to avoid tax legally, since tax law is full of loopholes.

In Zurich starts from 100K. in the US you can easily get 200K after a PhD from a top 50. Why would anyone stay in London living with 3-5 other people not being able to afford a car or even a motorcycle for weekend trips. Having to pay a shitty NHS (A friend of mine has had a health issue for over 6 months and they just send him home with paracetamol) and on top of that even with a 100+ salary in London (top 10%) your savings will be marginal while your lifestyle relatively frugal
This is literally him saying "we have special provisions for rich people".

the "top 50 uni" sounds like absolute xenophobia though.
uni degree, english skills, (some money in account) should be it, easiest way to show that you're a productive part of any society you are part of.
No it says we have special provisions for the smartest people in the world. He didn't say you needed £1m he said you needed a degree from a top 50 uni. These people are very likely to go on to contribute hugely to the economy of wherever they call home.
@@YouAreJel If you think being the smartest people in the world are what in the top 50 unis in the world, and not the richest, you need a reality check. Is there an overlap? Yes. But do the richest fill those ranks? Yes.
@@scottishross91 oh of course but there are also many rich people who don't get into the top 50 schools and there are also many poor people who do. I know a bunch of very normal people ( parents work in Tesco or Primark) who got into Cambridge and Oxford and imperial and it is the same in other countries. They are in those unis because they are smart not because they are rich. Yes being rich means you have better schooling... but you still have to put in the work and study and pass the exams. Even more importantly though if there was a visa that let people in just because they had over £100million. That would probably be great for the economy as those people would spend way way more than the average person which means more money for all of us. Would you prefer we have a policy where we let people with the worst education and who don't have any money?
@@YouAreJel Your last point is completely irrelevant.
There are poorer people that can get into the top schools, of course. But they are the tiny minority.
The rich and the elite believe only they should get the best and then they should get the benefits and privileges. They make up this nonsense of "meritocracy" when what they mean is "benefited most by privilege".
University rankings are a joke. For example, the university of St.Andrews in scotland is well known to be one of the best universities in the UK, yet its global ranking is still something like 200 on most ranking sites, simply because its too small to compete on things like total research output with the bigger universities. So basically for this visa you need to have gone to not necessarily just a good university, but also a very large one.
I went to university of Nairobi. Ranked No 1 in Kenya also ranked No 1 In East Africa but global position is 1,222. Basically nobody from the entire East Africa qualifies for this visa. To expand it the top university in Africa which is university of Cape town is ranked 125. Basically no single African qualifies for this visa. Casually cancelled out an entire continent.
All top 50 global universities are in the US, Canada, Australia, or Western Europe. None of which will find better opportunities in the the UK. They will need to make this at least 200.

What he neglects to tell you is that the prospect for employment is slim. They will 100% pick local people who do not rely on a temporary visa. Not to mention the extravagant cost of living. Even if you do get a decent 9-5 job the majority of your pay will be going to rent. Thats not even counting if you are London itself where the price of food and everything is also high compared to other parts of the country.
That is due to mass immigration. 1.4 million entered the Uk last year, the vast majority going to the big cities. London is so expensive because its extreme overcrowding issue which is because of immigration. If only whites were in the country london’s population would DECREASE, yet it increases every year massively! We must not bring in a single more immigrant. All that isn’t even to mention the crime they bring?
Come to the UK and pay 60% taxes 😂 while 80% of Ukrainian refugees are not willing to work 😂
Criteria 1: Global Top 50 uni grad
Criteria 2: English speaking
Criteria 3: Enough to support yourself
If you fit all 3 of these criterias go to the middle east. You'll earn more and pay less tax.
Yeah but you have to live in the Middle East which a lot of people don’t want.
@@joshr920uae is way better than the UK if you don’t mind the heat
@@kam1k189 If you’re a straight male maybe.
@@joshr920 ahh I see you like reading headlines. Did you read the headlines that also ranked the uae as the safest country for women? Or did you conveniently skim past them🤣

Different strokes for different folks. No merit requirement just - ‘you attended X university… get in mate…’
Incredibly proud of institutionalising nepotism at the state level 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾.
Giving the rich more opportunity while the poor struggle to find a job. Nice
most talented people aren’t graduate of top 50 universities, only rich people can attend those
That just sounds like receiving the best US students
Its a 2 year holiday visa for the most privileged in society, he's clutching at straws for successes during his tenure as PM now
Why not help the kids in your own country? Ffs the UK used to have the brightest minds in the world.
Attracting high quality skilled immigrants are important, but definitely shouldn't be limited to the top elite. Make it like top 500 and I think it's fair. Also add a second clause for any international student that graduated from UK universities. Meanwhile we could shut the doors for unskilled people.
They’re coming to Silicon Valley not the UK. Taxes are much less even though it’s Cali too.
It took an Oxford University degree to come up with such a bright idea I suppose
Guys top universities are pointless now. They’re just a status symbol. You can learn almost everything online now.
That's why you get people wanting to come here. For that status symbol. It means a lot in certain countries
Instead of making UK schooling better they prefer things like this
Smart people who already accomplished, don’t need to move anywhere to find something to do
This visa is designed specifically for Indians to migrate to the UK.
They came before anyway...nothing new...
Guy can’t even sort out immigration crisis but he wants to invite more people to this country. Who voted for this guy?
How can anybody have anything against this😂😂 rich people coming to the U.K. means more tax money to spend on public spending which helps the poor. There’s literally nothing wrong with this
This looks like AI generated
Helping the 1% and being highly proud of it 😂😂 and he's a child of migrants who didn't have that visa 😅😅
That’s how you get the good immigrants like America for the most part
There’s no such thing as good non European immigrants in Europe
