I’ve been through this tunnel many times. There used to be some GREAT Jeep trails around there. I actually crossed that creek in my Jeep one time when it was flooding, and I should have turned around. Water above my door openings. Young and stupid…..
As soon as she said "the culvert pipes under the roadway are completely packed," I thought of Post 10. Those clogged culverts would never stand a chance.
@@mikespikedog5293 theres no reason to spend the money on it theres an alt road to get to the houses past this crossing and if you go further down the road you cross the creek 2 more times but these crossings are just the rocky creek bottom
I forgot how much I like this channel. Fun and warming to watch. Seeing that the stones repurposed as retainer walls, I can't help but feel a mudflood connection. Thanks for the great content, The Newmans

@@stretchlimo7275 Yesterday, I really got lucky in Winifrede, West Virginia. I went there to film a coal branch not knowing that it only runs when needed and hadn't run in a few weeks according to a railroad conductor there. Right when I got there the train was being put together and almost ready to make a couple trips across the 6 mile branch to ship some coal out. I got some really unique video. The Big Eagle Railroad. It was awesome and I'm working on the video now.
We, Frederick County Maryland, have a similar tunnel. It is corrugated steel, no river and goes under a road not a railroad. You did not blow your horn while going through. We always tap the horn before starting through to let anybody coming in the other way know and inside just for the fun. Interstate highways are boring but back roads are always unique.
Cool I know there are at least 2 tunnels and 1 under pass in Anderson, IN. 1. near 32nd Street from the Lowe's parking lot heading east. (Not very wide) 2. Marine Dr between Madison Ave and Sherman St (one lane) 3. Madison Ave between 38th and 29th. 4. I forgot Main Street between 34th and 31sr St
I used to slide through those pipes under the road when I was a kid. My dad grew up not too far from there and he used to take me and my brother down there to play around in the creek and go swimming
It shouldn't be an expensive project to dredge the upstream side of that roadway and clear the pipes. Once cleared it would be an easy annual maintenance. Keep the water off the road except for high water times.
Is the tunnel cut through soil only or did they cut through limestone? I wouldn't really trust something cut through soil, but a limestone tunnel should be stable. I'm a little surprised that no one clears the culverts so that they'll take the water again. That would help preserve the road.

In 1904 horse drawn vehicular had significant ground clearance, now autos may have as little as only six (6) inches, perhaps basic furnace repairs might be a wise investment …
So was this built for a railroad to use as a railroad or was it built just for cars? The tunnel doesn't look tall enough for trains to pass but it looks like the road leading to it was a grade.
Looks like car passages built in the 1930s by the RR after they smoothed the grade with that tall berm. We have a series of those under s CSX line connecting farm toads to US411 between Eton GA and Old Fort, TN. Narrow concrete roadway, over a creek and under the tracks via a tight hole short tunnel.
This is the stuff made for wanderers ! An old tunnel, bridge or anything to spark imagination of how transportation in America use to be. See them in before they disappear !
@@skinpalette no problems at all enjoyed the video. Might as well have them working to be seen. The DRLs as they are known should come on as soon as you start the car or are in Drive.... You would think maybe a local concrete business would offer to come down with some of their left over concrete and add some to the crossing there rather than wash it out in the ditches like their truck drivers do all the time. Wouldn’t take much to make that section nice and preserve some history. Get some high school kids to spend time painting the graffiti maybe would help draw some tourist to come to your community to see the tunnel as well. I’m disabled but would try to help rather than run my mouth. Pretty bad shape though. Just pitiful to see that in such a mess. City needs to be putting more attention towards it if they want it to attract more visitors to the city.

Post 10 needs to check this out, even tho it is out of his range.
My thoughts, exactly.
My first thought. 👍
As soon as she said "the culvert pipes under the roadway are completely packed," I thought of Post 10. Those clogged culverts would never stand a chance.
The reporter would be a good host for The Post 10 show.
Yeah he’d get the culverts flowing in no time
You need your local Post 10 to get those pipes cleared!
Cool find, I love 15 minutes away from this
Glad you like it!
Add to bucket list. ✔
Clogged culverts call POST 10
How to make this the most exciting place in the world for five minutes, broadcast voice, trains overhead, history, rock music kicking in, well done!
Give her a contract and a TV show!
Wow. Never been here before. I always took Kaiser Road to the south when my folks used to live out this way.
You need to check it out.
They need to hire post10 to get in and clean them culverts.
With today's equipment there is no reason for them to be plugged. I am sure its probably a Public road.
He wouldn’t be able to dig those out with his bear hands. That’s going to take a backhoe.
Lol I also thought about post 10
He's gonna need the rake for this one.

Neat old tunnel! But not on a icey day!........your having to much fun Suzy! Thanks
I guess I am just nerdy but I like this stuff. It always helps if there is a railroad involved since I used to work for one. Fun re-discoveries.
I'm right there with you!
Gravel roads are the best, no matter where you go, especially in the hills.

Its Very interesting regarding the ornate blocks of the old building
Pity they couldn’t find out which building they came from.

Next time I road trip to Indianapolis I will make a slight detour to here on my return!

Some tunnel in Indiana : exists
50k people including me: INTERESTING
I've been to Greensburg. My wife's friend works at the Honda plant!
I would like to see a video or old pictures of it when a train went through the tunnel. And what they hauled in the train cars.
The train is on top of the embankment as in the video.
The 'tunnel' as in the video is for road traffic.
nice to see the water is so clear :)
I used to slide through those pipes under the road when I was a kid. My dad grew up not too far from there and he used to take me and my brother down there to play around in the creek and go swimming
Those pipes are completely clogged now.
Been across many many times. There used to be some great Jeeping around that area years ago…Fox road comes to mind.
Has to be a tough crossing in the winter

Here's a video I recently did that explains how the rail line was built along with the tunnel: ua-cam.com/video/nQ2raX2bczY/v-deo.html
I wonder what the purpose for the conduit on the tunnel ceiling is.
Been there but water was to high to cross.
I think my Kia would just be swept away by the water

There are many stories of it being haunted.
@1:05 sounds like a job for Post 10.
That is so neat I’m gonna have to look it up on the Google maps thank you.
And of course it has to be vandalized with graffiti.
the ornate stones look like they’re from the cincinnati chamber of commerce building

To me, part of the charm is the water crossing the road.
Pretty sad that the culvert pipes are plugged, especially given all the unemployed people.
too bad the idiot spray painters destroy everything they get near.
Not really a tunnel just a bridge under a rail embankment and it looks in dire need of maintenance.
Horrible art inside the tunnel.
What does the tunnel connect? I don’t care about watching a car go back and forth through the tunnel and listening to loud music. C’mon. Worthless.
