So instead of giving up on neutral because it is not in your favour, you try to make it good enough to justify the other strengths of your characters

neutral being disadvantaged doesnt outright make a matchup bad either, it could still be even or even winning

This has reached me as a baiken player. thank you hotashi for inventing neutral in fighting games

This is really good advice, it's easy to become pessimistic about a matchup because of a preconceived notion of how it plays out in the abstract, and sometimes that becomes a barrier to just looking at the screen and trying to come up with solutions against the person you are currently playing. I forget that too sometimes, and playing Baiken definitely contributes to that, as we focus so much on practicing and perfecting offense and setplay and it leads to a lot of very linear thinking.

Even if a matchup is 1/9 you still have to work for your one win on the set instead of letting someone freestyle on you all day
If a matchup is winning or losing you still press the buttons, and a lot of people seem to forget that

Good video, the editing felt quite natural.
What I missed was a more concrete example of what a plan actually is, and how it could look like. For example, what was your plan in the Nago vs. Baiken matchup?
LK's Frosty Faustings video was very insightful because he explained his "odd" decisions and also laid out his gameplan against Happy Chaos.
I kept waiting for a: "For example, I approach this by ..." but it never appeared.
While the plan is usually quite obvious against outliers like HC and Axl, I struggle with defining it in more "muddy" matchups that don't have an obvious solution.

Well that's for the player to figure out.
But Hotashi did mention a few things like more f.S, more H kabari, longer less commital pokes in neutral that can still net good reward on counter hit and keep your safer and unpredictable, as opposed to just doing IAD j.S over and over.

So sometimes I forget that Hotashi is insanely good. Realizing three minutes into the video that the Baiken he was blitzing was Lakey really helped remind me of that fact

As afausr player who ends up doing only 2p, item, and bag in neutral, this vid was eye opening. Thanks for the help. It might be slowly clicking for me.

11:20 something that came up that is pretty interesting to me. I don’t get why people are hung up on the whole ‘well LK wants to play a different character because he thinks it’s a bad matchup.’ This idea that has been formed is horrible because now we think baiken v nago is super unwinnable lmao. I don’t get why this just automatically dooms the matchup as a whole. In reality, they can be finding something to make their life easier in the matchup lol.

    • @steffanhymer1285

One of the biggest problems with saying LK is looking for another character for the match up is because he is a pro player and it's his incentive to never lose a game. He can play the match up. He just has to find every benefit he can to win, even if it means playing other characters. And using that logic foe normal players is insane.

If you’ve built up bad habits like this Baiken has you just need to replace them with new, good habits. If I have a bad habit I make it my goal to NEVER use it again for maybe a few hours or a day when playing and try to focus on other stuff. You’ll probably not win since you abandoned a strategy that works sometimes but it’s good for getting over autopilot or bad habits

Another Baiken player identified me either being extremely passive or shooting to close space, a lot like Lakey does to handle these matchups. The advice still holds up months later, and it makes sense that it seems to be a common hurdle for Baiken. Waiting (hoping) for other players to make a mistake helped at the beginning but I've been working on preventing heavy pressure before it happens especially with how the game has changed in Season 3. I'm glad you touched base on this topic, feels very applicable to where I'm at personally.
One question, was this a scheduled Metafy session, Twitch viewer battles or chance encounter?

In my experience (as Nago) neutral vs Nago is:
Step 1 - block the spin
Step 2 - block the mix
Step 3 - you didnt block the mix, did you?...
Step 4 - wait you didnt even block the spin?!

    "my shit playstyle"
step one my dude, fix your mentality. You're rank 1949 as of this video. you are in the top .5% range of players in the game. give yourself a freaking break dude.
Secondly: @Hotashi, what would be very interesting and more helpful, is to see how one creates a gameplan. the baiken player clearly does not have one or they would respond with there plan, or would have linked a flow chart to chat. I for one would love to see a nago pro-player create a flow chart plan for baiken (with what he knows about the fight) from a perspective of a nago player.
hand is broken, im chalk full of drugs, i apologize for my typing and grammar, but i really needed to say these two things.
