Thank you so much for watching and for all your support, you guys mean a lot to me! sending all my love to you guys
break a leg means good luck because i think in old theatres there was a myth that wishing someone “good luck” would actually only bring bad luck, so they started saying break a leg instead to bring good luck, i guess because it’s the opposite
Yeah I think it's because the worst thing that could happen is falling off stage and breaking your leg, so if you say that instead of "good luck" things can only go well in comparison! Backstage people don't say "good luck", that's just not the done thing 😂
I think it was partly because understudies didn't get paid unless they performed so they used to say "break a leg" jokingly in the hopes it would actually happen so they got to go on 😅
@@charlottesreadsthings211 ooo that's interesting. I like that theory! I just Googled and there's also another one about the 'leg line' of the stage and unpaid vaudeville actors reaching it, as well as one about bowing (goodness knows)... Turns out there are many possibilities!
I heard it was because they were wishing for them to end up in a cast...
Break a leg comes from a superstition in theater, it was bad luck to say good luck to the performers so they started saying break a leg instead!
Love this. Defo fancy a part 2. I was hearing for 21 years of my life before I lost my hearing and didn’t even know all the hearing ones haha

Loved this, especially as a hearing American who knows ASL. "Mwah" or "kiss fist" seems to be similar in ASL and BSL, so that's interesting. Didn't know several of the hearing ones either. Part 2 would be great to see!
Another meaning of “vee”, it mean I don’t believe you. I learned it from secondary school. I love this video, made me laugh 😂
That was interesting to know...especially a "beef" with someone!
Your mum made me laugh sticking her fingers up at us all for Vee 😂 Part 2 ❤️👍
I just love you and your Mum's relationship. There's so much compassion, humour and patience between you both. It's so lovely to watch.
I'd love to watch a part 2! I'm learning BSL so it's interesting to learn slang things.
I'd be interested to learn what signs are different in different parts of the UK as well - like if you have friends in different places who sign things differently
I learned something new in BSL and hearing slang. Awesome!
Definitely good video. Never knew that. We all learn new things everyday! Do part 2 please. You two did a good job! Keep it up!
this was such a fun and nice video!!! would love to see a part 2 :^) i'm studying to become a swedish sign language interpreter, and it is so much fun to take part of BSL, because even though i don't know it, i still learn a lot! thank you for making great and cozy videos!!
Loved this. Slang is interesting. 'Mardy' can also mean like soft/soppy
5:12 that is killing me right now!😂🤣 love your video that made me cheer me up the most time!
Ahh finally new uploads! Wish you can upload more often, can’t get enough of your contents, get me through the lockdown! 🤍
Break a leg is back during Shakespearean theater. The stage is slanted
This so funny 🤣 it like me when I try explain slang my mum in Deaf Community 🤣👌🤟 amazing !
Loved this vid, just starting out learning bsl, lovely to watch conversations!
I recently started a Bsl course and having been looking for vlogs using bsl like this. It really helps me to see Bsl in ordinary conversation and it helps that the content is good. You and your family are great 👍🏼👍🏼
Love your videos, really helping my BSL understanding! My youngest daughter is deaf and I am looking forward to her buying me McDonalds. I am near the end of my BSL level 2 course and I really hope to pass the exams.
I don't think Bite your tongue is to shut up as much as 'hold your tongue'...like watch what you say or do not provoke or offend. Hold back what you really want to say. Is similar but not quite the same. This is very interesting!!!
Thanks. Yes its interesting. When will you say it?
From these video reading yours subtitle learn a lots about slang words sound interesting to me would love to see part 2 please
So i am learning BSL and this is really helpful and im learning a lot. Also your mum is fab! Shes reminds me of my love, you can feel the love she has for you! Jazzy’s mum for the win! 🥰
Your mom is the best!
Part 2🤣 I love that
Yessss!!! The first one!!!😀
I have a question
Since you were born profoundly deaf , before you got your cochlear , you had no idea what sound is
What did you imagine it to be?
Before you had a concept
And once you got your cochlear , did it match your expectations?
What a stupid question?!
@@quinquedecem it's not stupid
It's interesting
How deaf people imagine sound
Similarly, how born blind people imagine sight
You know , when blind people echolocate (not all do so) , the sounds that they make from clicks , they make an image in their mind and their visual cortex lights up , research shows
They do have a way of experiencing sight , it's just different
Similarly, deaf people also have a way of imagining and experiencing sound
It's just different from ours
It would be really interesting to know and understand their way
Also , when deaf people lip read, their auditory cortex lights up , research shows
This is truly amazing
This q is in no way stupid
You say 'Break a Leg' when someone has an audition, because you want them to get in the 'CAST' :)
Part two would be fabulous! Love this video!
I’ve only ever used bite my tongue, like if I really wanted to say something to someone who done my head in I had to bite my tongue and keep my mouth shut
Yes please other video I love it!?
Please do a part 2!! I lovedddd this
Enjoyed watching this! I knew some of the hearing slang but not much of the BSL slang since I know ASL.

I am doing my BSL course now I love learning bsl
If you say good luck then you could jinx the person so you say the opposite meaning 'break a leg' then you haven't jinxed them. ;-)
I don't even know any deaf slang and I'm deaf myself! 😳😂
